2021 Cricket Season

With the local cricket season (Lancashire League, Ribblesdale League, Northern League & Palace Shield) just over 6 weeks away from starting let’s hope everything goes to plan with the roadmap out of lockdown and we can get a full season in weather permitting and subject to ECB guidelines.
It will be great to see people watching local sport again and clubs generating income through the bars being open.
Let’s hope all the professionals/overseas amateurs who are due to come are able to arrive despite the travel restrictions and we have a competitive season of cricket.
Any early predictions on which teams are likely to be challenging at the top of each league and any news on transfers of local players between clubs.

A few South African pro's have already pulled out of coming over with the restrictions.
Be a brave man to make any predictions when nobody really knows how it's going to pan out.
But yes it will be great to get on the cricket again and have a pint with friends in the sunshine.

Will be nice to get a few sunny days in down at the cricket, especially if we are restricted to doing most indoor stuff.
Will be able to share a beer and put a face to the username of a few more UTC posters.

Do Colne play Burnley first league match up Colne?
Can't wait to sit in the sun up Colne having a couple of beers on a Sunday afternoon.

Always a exciting time of year. Monday and Tuesday felt like cricket weather yesterday and today back to winter.
Still got Rammy as favourites for the top flight and Greenmount for the 2nd division

Could see some decent crowds early on if the weather is decent. Far easier to pop on the cricket club for a few beers than mess around booking tables and trying to find a space in a beer garden. I know what I'll be doing anyway, although I get the feeling its going to be a long season for Colne!

Colne CC now has 12 picnic tables and the beer garden should be open from 12 April, weather permitting !!

I've just seen Burnley opening batsman Liam Bedford has signed for Salesbury as professional.
Expect a big replacement signing for opening batter/coach role.

A few clubs will be getting cheap local professionals especially if they coach as well.

Settle will always start favourites and have a quality pro.
Read look to have signed a good one too.

Hopefully things go ahead. For my birthday Mrs Sc has bought me 2 £100 tickets for me and junior SC (she’s 37) at the home of cricket Headingley in July for the T20 v Pakistan. I trust junior will be jabbed up by then

I'm not sure they can sell you the tickets and then change the conditions of entry. I've got tickets for the Test match in August and I'm not expecting to need any kind of vaccine pass.

I agree I had tickets for last year and YCC were quick to refund so hopefully there won’t be a problem

I suspect with Alan Smith’s ability to source grant funding and the money available for clubs because of Covid, he’ll have successfully secured money that can be spent on a title push.
The amount the club will make in the next few weeks with the whole of Padiham planning on drinking up there throughout the spring will also provide funds to go for the league.

After Cherry Tree and Salesbury announced their professionals today looking at the Ribblesdale League 3 teams have overseas pro’s, a couple have overseas amateurs and the rest are English professionals with a couple still to announce.
In the Lancashire League it looks as though there are still a few sides to name professionals as well after a couple have pulled out.

We sadly didn't have a pro last year with the pandemic so Jack Dewhurst went back to Clitheroe as an amateur. I don't think he played every week through work commitments though.
I'm not sure what his plans are this year.

I hope you're right. I'm not sure how much Alan Smith has to do with the Sports club these days. He had to take a backseat at the football club due to ill health a few years ago.
I expect that all cricket grounds to be busy with outdoor drinking. Just like they were last year.

Yeah, there was a couple of pictures posted recently on the clubs FB and twitter accounts.
It was dug up at the end of season by outside contractors, so hopefully it will be decent. The pitches were spinning like Chennai for the last couple of years. No coincidence that the groundsman (bugsy) son Toby is the spinner there.

He’s still active with the Sports club. He just handed cheques over to both the football and cricket clubs.

Plenty of good players at Colne, both first and second teams in their respective top division unlike established Lancashire League clubs such as Accrington, Bacup, Church, East Lancashire, Enfield, Haslingden, Nelson, Rawtenstall and Rishton.

Colne have been trying to poach Padihams best batter all winter. Tell Gary Hunt to back off Lenny.

Must admit I'm looking forward to getting back across to the cricket. Great days out seeing friends etc. Only live across the road from Bentgate and when the sun is out there's no where I'd rather be. Loads of space, the kids go and have a kick about round the back, great food etc, what's not to like

Now now. Colne not only won the league
(2nd division) in 2019, we retained our title in 2020!

There isn't a batsman at Padiham that could help you stay up in the top division.
You would need the Price is right back for that.

Who needs James Price when we have Tisse Appuhamilage Milinda Siriwardana ? We know what English batsmen are like against left-arm spinners !!

I see Tom Lawson from Burnley has signed for Whalley as pro.
I've not seen him play but I presume it weakens Burnley some more?
Seeing more evidence of the pandemic hitting cricket clubs and their finances.
