Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
I don't know how to link, just seen this on the Internet gossip, if we lose Pope and Tarky we will have some rebuilding to do

It's in the Daily Star, Utd and Spurs interested, bidding war could send it above £50M.

Inevitable sadly and probably Tarkowski as well.
Get Heaton and Gibson back , make a massive profit and reinvest in the rest of the team.

Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
I’d be very surprised if Tom Heaton came back to Burnley as first choice keeper. Nor do I think it would necessarily be a good thing for him or the club if he did. Much as I love Tom think if we see him at Burnley it would be as a back up come coach role.

Indeed Heaton will be 35 in April and therefore 37 at the end of his four year deal which reputedly was worth £100k per week. Heaton was brilliant for Burnley while he was at Turf Moor however I think it's fairly obvious why he moved as well as why he won't be moving back and it will be interesting to see if he starts to highlight his lack of first team opportunities if he stays second choice keeper at Villa as he did when at Burnley.

Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
I’d be surprised too, however we have two young keepers in Peacock-Farrell and Norris who are still developing, it would make sense for an experienced keeper to be on the books either as a back up or as a no1. The reality is we are not going to have huge sums to play with, so a returning crowd favourite is decent PR as well.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 9:31 amI’d be very surprised if Tom Heaton came back to Burnley as first choice keeper. Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
I'm more concerned about the lack of strength in depth at centre back which will be left cavernous if suitable replacements do not arrive in the wake of Tarky's predicted departure.
That said the backbone of the squad needs new blood throughout. If those two leave in the summer, I would love to see 4 or 5 arrive to push us on with the position of GK not prioritised above the others.

Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
Why would manure buy Pope when they have Henderson?
Part ex Henderson plus £30m?
Part ex Henderson plus £30m?
Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
I'd go for Peacock Farrell. He's an NI international and that despite limited first team appearances. Heaton has had his time and in recent years has been troubled by injury.
The club needs to spend significantly in the summer. It's looking like we have 'got away' with lack of recent on the field investment.
The next transfer window will be crucial in bringing in relatively young talent that can hold its own in the Premiership, grow with the club and then sell on at profit.
This is the way that Burnley has operated during successful times.

£42k pw, which, believe it or not, was the/one of Villa’s top earners prior to Grealish’s new deal, Barkley, Traore, Cash & Mings signing.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 9:43 amIndeed Heaton will be 35 in April and therefore 37 at the end of his four year deal which reputedly was worth £100k per week. Can’t see him returning though and nor would I want him to at his age/salary.
No way United are in for Pope and can’t see Spurs being able to afford big signings with £175m BoE loan to repay.

Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
Utd... clearly want Henderson starting so they've told De Gea to take as much time as he likes off for his baby.
Not sure how Pope fits in though, clearly he's better than Henderson but aren't they trying to make him their starter?
As for us, BPF isn't the answer.

Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
Pope’s worth 20m ish and Tarky 30 though I think Pope will stay and guarantee the No1 .If both go we re-invest , keepers are ten a penny and I’ve liked the look of BPF thus far . I doubt we’ll see huge changes it’s not the Dyche way but we all know we’re urgently short on the right side and desperate for a couple of high quality players to boost our game but aging journeymen

Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
Pope is worth more than £20 million ish.
2 years left on his deal with the option of a 3rd I think it is.
That coupled with his performances and being a regular in the England squad pushes him closer to £40 million, especially with these new immigration laws for sports people.

£20 million for Pope?
So ..... just a bit more than Sheff United paid for Ramsdale?
Not sure about that.

Re: Man Utd and Spurs on for Pope
Doubt it and even then, we did strip Lennon, Hart and a few others off recently. We'd obviously lose Pope's wage too. Not that I think Lingard would come here anyway, that ship has now sailed after his great spell at West Ham.

For all the talk of Pope going and Heaton coming back, the one person we need to retain in all this is Billy Mercer !

If we can't keep Pope ... then give young Bailley Peacock-Farrell a chance ... he deserves it and with Billy Mercer coaching he could just be what the doctor ordered plus we get to spend on areas we need to

Good news for us, can get much more moolah if bigger clubs are interested in our players rather than the likes of Leicester and West Ham.

Why do you think Sean Dyche signed BPF ? He signed him to eventually replace Nick Pope, the same reason we signed Nick Pope to eventually replace Tom Heaton!tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 6:44 pmBecause we're an established Premier League team, not some League One outfit.

United won’t be interested in Pope when they have Henderson who kept Sheffield United up last season and was outstanding
Think Nick Pope is a superb goalkeeper but I also think Hende will be the England keeper for years to come

I think the fact that the board are suddenly quietly going about their business tells me the board are very serious about their plan for BFC. I don’t think they will be falling over themselves either to buy or sell anyone until we get some stabilisation to the outside world. They have come in and are putting things together for the future, but I doubt very much they are going to throw money around until the market can settle to its new level, prices and wages are about to plummet... China, and major European clubs are already on their arses and trying to offload players.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:38 pmTBH I can't imagine our new board turning down any decent offers for our players.

No looking at it logically as to what would be most in everyone’s interest. Buying in an unstable market only adds to high risk. I’d expect any decent business to manage risk, mitigate any loses etc. Pretty basic stuff... any business making multi-million pound gambols are nervy at the moment, and I don’t see why our businessmen would be any different.
