You see Burnley knows what Burnley is and is quite comfortable in its own skin.
A liqueur at 7.30 on a cold winters night at the footie? That’s your Burnley.
Where a former drug dealer leads a Church of the Streets and Father Alex sheds tears on national tv fearful for his flock. That’s your Burnley.A splash of Brute and a night at the Cats Whiskers . That’s your Burnley.Nothing on the tele let’s go down the local and play pool with mates. That’s your Burnley.Sun’s out let’s go for a stroll up Pendle Hill. That’s your Burnley.Weeks pay packet means a visit to the market followed by a trip to the Turf and the best chips and curry sauce in the world. That’s your Burnley.Home of actors , musicians, sports stars, teachers, doctors, nurses, butchers, bakers, restauranteurs. That’s your Burnley. A town of tolerance and friendship where my Bermudian grandmother found her true home. That’s your Burnley.

I’ve lived away from Burnley for a few years now and I truly miss its spirit. Does it have issues? Of course. Some self inflicted, most forced upon it. But the people are, on the whole, proud, generous and funny. It’s also enveloped by some of the most beautiful greenery you’ll ever encounter.

A brilliant reply and riposte to the scouser Whatsupdoc, clever and imaginative. It nearly brought tears to my eyes and so much better after yesterday’s star studded performance.
