Who do you want to come up to the prem?
Taking shape now with 10 or less games left.
Norwich look up already. Good away day that we missed last time
Brentford for a new stadium and we haven't played them for a while.
Barnsley look to be on a great run for the play offs. Who doesn't like massive away ends?

Norwich are up bar the shouting.
To join them I'd like Barnsley & Brentford as well.
Who I think will come up is Norwich, Watford and Swansea through the play-offs.

If we are still in the PL then I'd like to see the weakest 3 possibilities.
If we get relegated I'd like the strongest 3 to go up.

I like seeing new teams come into the Premier League. Brentford seem like very well respected club, so it’ll be nice to see them in the top flight, same with Barnsley, I know that had a season in the 1990’s but they are a similar club to Burnley, and it’ll be good to see how they do.

You can hope all you like, but neither of them will be gracing the PL anytime soon alas for their fans.

I think most of us would like Barnsley just to see what confusion it causes with the media.
It's bad enough when we aren't in the same leagues
Norwich - we get £8 million for Gibson and to be fair they stood by their manager.

Barnsley have won 9 of their last 10, it's some run! Similar to Brentford's run last season when they faltered right at the end.

Norwich and some combination of Swansea Cardiff Barnsley or Bristol City.
Least wanted Watford and reading.

"Gibson a cracking defender" that made me smile ,obviously that didnt include his cameos for us, when he was awful.
Norwich is an horrendous away trip but they are well organised and always come back up quickly never letting standards drop.
Brentfords new ground is joined onto my school so that's a definite one I would like and the closest ground to home, just down the M4.Finally Watford half an hour car journey away and with a decent cafe for pre match food. Barnsley used to be like watching Brazil ,apparently but I'm not co convinced they will make it. Reading may scrape up but that's a long short, 15mins by car for us Berkshire Clarets

Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
You'd think so, but I think Dyche is very much like Ferguson and Clough in that respect. Once a player crosses the line that's it.
We'll probably see in Gibsons career another time when he throws his toys out of the pram. Things may be great right now flying in the championship but once they are losing regularly again, or he loses his place in the team I'm sure the gremlins will be back.
He's a good player but I think Dyche doesn't want someone like him in the team. Just look at Vydra time not starting games by comparison. Yes his agent has been flaunting his services and he's been vocal about wanting to play but it hasn't resorted to a training bust up and he's been professional the whole time.
Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
Norwich because I live in Norwich.
Brentford because it’s a great away day.
Barnsley because I’ve a mate who supports them.

Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
Ideal scenario
Norwich, Barnsley and Reading = decent points haul next season
Probably end up Norwich & Watford (strange how much better they are without Deeney in the squad) with Swansea or Barnsley in play offs. Fully expect Brentford to bottle it again

Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
To get £8 million for him and get him off the wage bill would annoy those who like to beat the club about him and the claim he cost us double that.
That fee probably included add ons, which he's never met.
I agree when he's on form and playing regularly he's a good defender, but such is life

on what planet are Barnsley a similar sized club to us? It took them almost 100 years to finally reach the top flight, they have won nothing in their history.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:22 pmsame with Barnsley, I know that had a season in the 1990’s but they are a similar club to Burnley

Barnsley.. definitely. Similar sort of club - or indeed the same club according to some media outlets - and the more small, unfashionable northern teams to spoil the Premier League brand, the better. Plus another 'old school' ground in the town centre, easily walkable from train etc. We need them now Sheff United are gone.

Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
It's over 60 years since we won the league. Bury won the FA Cup once. Nice bits of history but for anyone following Burnley in the 80s and 90s, Barnsley were easily the more successful club. Their stadium is a similar size, although even more ramshackle than ours. Their attendances would be pretty much the same. The town is slightly larger. They're basically us, but in South Yorkshire and without the recent Sky money. Which of course they may be getting soon if they keep this run up.

Bournemouth - nearby and great food
Norwich - best away day for me
Barnsley - I like the way they play
Could cope with Brentford, Swansea or Watford but definitely not Reading - relatively near but ground access makes it easier to travel to Birmingham and it's a dump of a stadium

Preston would be decent with the big away stand and easy journey.
They might split the stand in half again though if they start getting fans back.

Relative to the league they are in, they are a similar club. Forget history... but they did win the FA Cup a couple of years before us though and spent the last 30 years bobbling around in second and third tier.
They have a similar sized ground, similar catchment area, similar kind of industrial town and population, surround by other League clubs. They are a Yorkshire version of Burnley.

If Accy came up, i could see Andy Holt saving the money for the long term future of the club, keeping the same squad +50% wages for the season, and breaking Derby's record, and going back down with the richest wooden spoon in world football.
And i wouldnt blame him

Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
Accrington would have to spend so much on the ground to get it to Premier League standards. Burnley had to spend money on new floodlights, networking and cabling for broadcasting, media facilities, changing facilities and so on. I think the grace period was in place for the next Premier League season so that £100m won't go farŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:56 amIf Accy came up, i could see Andy Holt saving the money for the long term future of the club, keeping the same squad +50% wages for the season, and breaking Derby's record, and going back down with the richest wooden spoon in world football.

There's the pitch as well, though just grass is Premier League standard, that'll be probably need that developing too in the future
Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
town wise I can agree but the town size isn't the only thing that determines how big a club is, Haven't Barnsley been in the top flight once in their entire history? Not sure how that's even comparable to us.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:50 amRelative to the league they are in, they are a similar club. Me neither, Steve - but in any case they can stay where they are and continue to win their East Lancs-West Lancs derbies; for one more season at least.
And on second thoughts I should have gone for Blackpool, not Morecambe.

Loads of plans have come out just this week about their training ground and bar areas at the ground.
and that's on a pittance. Give him 100m and who knows what he would achieve.

Ignore the history, that's not the point I'm interested in. If that's the angle on what determines 'how big a club is' then you can't argue with those particular facts.
My point is, look at attendances - just as a guideline. Since 2005 - Burnley's average attendance in The Championship (up to 2014) was between 12,000 - 13,000
Burnley in 2008 - in the Championship (promoted) 12,711
Barnley in 2008 - in the Championship (relegated) 13,189
Only Premier League has elevated Burnley's stature - If we hadn't have been promoted back into the Premiere League we'd be a similar, mediocre Championship club, like Preston and Blackburn and Barnsley

Similar in the sense we both have American owners, not so similar in that theirs include Billionaires, similar in the sense that they are fiscally well managed not so similar in that they are part of a multi-club model, similar in the sense that their owners see them as an investment, not so similar in that our owners talk about the club being a long term investment, theirs have already flipped one club within a couple of years of buying it (that is their stated plan for their clubs).NottsClaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 9:59 amBarnsley.. definitely. Re: Who so you want to come up to the prem?
Attendance is largely population, ignoring footballing achievements when discussing size of the club makes zero sense. You really think Salford are a comparable club to us too? because the population of Salford is bigger than Burnley, while they only get 2,500-4,000 fans on in the lower leagues (pre covid) they have since climbed a division and won a trophy, so their attendances will likely rise post Covid. If Salford were in the Championship they'd likely get 9,000 - 12,000 fans on too.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 12:42 pmIgnore the history, that's not the point I'm interested in. Salford are not a similar club to us in the way Barnsley are... But I'd say Salford and Wigan are probably similar - in the way they have a new stadium (like Wigan once did in the lower leagues) and have risen quickly with a bit of money behind them and the towns are more renowned for Rugby.
Here are some other clubs I think are 'similar' to Burnley - Preston, Blackburn, Blackpool, West Brom, probably Millwall - I know they are city club, but maybe Oldham too?
Which clubs do you think we are 'similar' to?

If you're talking strictly town similarities then Barnsley isn't a bad shout, I thought you were talking about size when you said similar club so that's my fault.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 1:41 pmI'm not talking about size, I'm talking similarities
