Ouch. Clearly not an amicable divorce, then. Can't see the fans being too impressed with this sort of information being made public knowledge though I guess he could argue that their ownership was being questioned by CW on an almost weekly basis.

Not sure what there is to gain from releasing this info though....

The Athletic have a really good piece on manager burnout today - you could see it in Wilder

One interesting snippet We said, 'no way are we going to pay you £4m, you are resigning, we are not firing you, why would we have to pay almost one year's salary? suggesting that Wilder was paid in excess of £4m a year.

Sounds to me that Wilder has had a melt down and that he was looking for a way out that would suit himself best financially.

In the best interest of the club that he has left, so that they can now prepare for the championship and look for recruiting a new manager who is in the right frame of mind and up for the challenge ahead

Maybe the owner thought it was his turn to tell another side of the story
Wilder had been pretty poor in major dealings in the transfer market (Brewster, McBurnie, Ramsdale, Burke, Mousset, Robinson and Freeman costing almost £100m)
Only Sander Berge looked anything like good enough for the money they paid out
The owner thought recruitment could be done better (quite rightly) and wanted to bring in a Technical Director which Wilder was dead against
It was always said by Wilder that he wanted to copy the format of Dyche and BFC and he saw SD as a bit of a mentor (maybe SD had told him about how he was working with our current Tech Director ;) )
Maybe he also thought he could control the club in the same way as SD had done under MG but clearly the Sheff Utd owner didn't agree
As for the quote about a compensation package of £4m being close to his annual salary I think we can dismiss that. He still had over three years left on his existing contract so a deal to walk away with that figure quoted is not that unreasonable (in footballing terms :)

Statement clearly made to get the fans back onside.
He is a Blades fan so difficult for him whilst honourable to offer to resign but £4m is ludicrous for a failed project.

It's a significant amount of money but I think it's a little harsh to describe it as a 'failed project'. Shef Utd were League One when he took over and he's helped bring millions into the club (looking at it from a purely financial perspective obv). Dyche similarly handsomely remunerated.

But it does somewhat fly in the face of his 'I never quit' rhetoric earlier in the season though agreed he looked burnt out in the last few weeks.

Maybe this will be an end to the media love in with Wilder? Sure they were great last season but Wilder was being touted for all sorts of bigger posts before crashing back to earth this season.

I've never really liked the bloke from Northampton days always spikey and irritable in interviews, rarely gave credit to opponents and generally an unpleasant individual, I've no idea where he will crop up next but someone will offer him a job based on his success in the previous couple of years.

I remember him taking sides over a potential takeover. (2 mins 20 secs in when he starts).

I do think Wilder looked to Dyche and Burnley as a template for how to be successful as a smaller club in the PL, especially in terms of the control the manager gets in many aspects of the club, including recruitment. BUT there was a big difference as Wilder was given loads and loads more money to spend and ultimately (as others have said) he hasn't spent it well. He has to stand up and take a great deal of responsibility for that and admit his judgement on some players has been seriously lacking and he can't blame anyone else. Fair dos to the owner who not only gave him those funds, but was apparently happy to let him take Utd down and see if he could get them back up.

His "style" in those days was always that aggressive even though I can understand it in that period when they weren't getting paid.

I think that's probably right, the only difference in my opinion as much as I like Wilder is that Dyche oozes charisma.

I think it also goes to show that Sean Dyche is a really hard act to follow, in both senses. In my view, he is probably the best manager around at the moment in terms of getting maximum return from the resources available to him.

Correct. And he's not been given shed loads of cash to spend either, which may actually have been to his benefit because if you have it and you waste it, you will have people pointing the finger (and rightly so).

SD is invaluable to us, and if we can we should try and get him to sign a new contract, as whoever follows him will have mighty big feet to fill.

Compare our meagre summer outlay with Sheff Utd's and you can see what an underrated job Sean is doing, is he perfect no, but for us he's absolutely vital no matter what some posters on here may think about his methods, he generally gets the results, and that's ultimately all that matters at the end of the day.

I agree 100% but that won’t last forever, it’s widely acknowledged now even Sean admits himself it’s no longer sustainable long term, the bargains are becoming harder to find/no bargains to be had, squeezing every last drop out of a sponge the sponge will be dry in the near distant future without serious backing.

I think that’s why the production line that’s produced Dwight McNeil, is critical to our future, and it’s another part of the club that SD has been instrumental in strengthening.

I think the owner comes across quite well - honest but fair in his assessment. I'd much rather owners be open like this as opposed to never saying anything.

I can see Sheff Utd being appealing to Dyche if they came for him; half the distance to commute; 32k stadium with options to expand; rich owners... I can see him being a good option there

Chris Wilder is a contender to replace Sean Dyche at Burnley, with the Clarets concerned about losing their manager to a Premier League rival this summer.

Former Sheffield United boss Wilder, 53, is expected to become one of the hottest properties of the close season, with a host of clubs in England’s top two divisions interested.

Burnley hope Dyche will stay but his excellent work in establishing them as a Premier League club has attracted plenty of interest, including from Crystal Palace.

It remains uncertain whether Palace manager Roy Hodgson will stay beyond his contract, which runs until the end of the season.

Both Dyche and Wilder have admirers at Selhurst Park, as do Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard.

Sources claim that, while Palace will not make a final decision on Hodgson until the closing weeks of the campaign, the process of finding a replacement has begun — though paying compensation of £3.5million to Burnley may prove a stumbling block.

Dyche has also been linked to Newcastle, where manager Steve Bruce is under growing pressure.

But even if he stays at Turf Moor, it looks likely Wilder will have plenty of options in the summer.

West Brom could emerge as potential suitors — and Sportsmail understands he has admirers at Bournemouth, who will part company with Jonathan Woodgate if he fails to secure promotion back to the top flight.

I find it amazing, and funny, when you often hear reports that clubs are baulking at the prospect of having to pay ridiculously low amounts of compensation to secure the services of a manager
£3.5m for Dyche ?

I really hope that Dyche stays but I'm not sure Wilder could cope with a budget probably a lot less than he had at Sheffield Utd, Wasn't it the lack of money and not getting more players in that he had issues with. He'd be in for a shock with us.

Interview with C Wilders representatives,

BFC what was Mr Wilders budget at Sheff It's?
MW £150,000,000 a season.
BFC do you think he could manage with £10,000,000?
MW not a problem.
MW have a question, how much do we get compensated if he gets sacked?
No thanks from me.

I'd be happy with Wilder if Dyche was to leave, he's an innovative manager, develops players and I think one of our type.
I believe managers should be given time to learn too, like Dyche was, when first relegated from the Premier League.
He has had plenty success on meagre budgets, you could argue that it only started going wrong when he had money to spend.
Covid really knocked the wind out of the sails at Sheff United. If ever there was a stadium where the fans make a difference its Bramall Lane.

Sheff United's wage structure was still a fair bit below ours - certainly last season, John Fleck was only on £8K a week in his first season in the Premier. I agree the signings of Ramsdale and Brewster look ill conceived in hindsight.

I would add Berge, McBurnie and Mousset to that list. Probably not much change from 50m and all 3 poor.

Them 5 players alone take him somewhere near 100m of poor signings, not sure he is the man for us

Berge has been excellent - you can't help being injured, he will be sold on for a profit.
The other two made a big contribution to them finishing top 10 last season, but granted made little impact this term. I dare say how fans of other clubs might look at Vydra's contribution at Burnley.

I could see Dyche leaving and I could see Wilder being the new manager at Turf Moor.

Don’t think there is much in the rumour other than it just makes sense.
