Boxing
Re: Boxing
Thought Whyte came across as a bit of a dick, walking over getting the stool and water bottle. He’d won, time to leave Povetkin to his trainers and then go over to him after that.
Did well Whyte though - that’s Povetkin retiring now.

That final left hook would put lot of people down. He's quite exciting to watch, but he leaves himself too open imo to challenge the best the division

Not at all, he’s not that guy! What would he gain, he always brings the big stool.
Bullied an old veteran and top fighter, I hope he destroys wilder in a big stadium fight later in the year and fights the winner of AJ/Fury after their two fights this time next year, I think he loses to both but I’d love to see him get his chance.
Those top two are much better than the rest at the minute but HW boxing anything can happen at that top 10 level

I’m with the OP. Expected Povetkin to win but he looked slow and clumsy from the first bell.
It’s difficult to come back from a KO in a re-match but deserved win for Whyte.

Had a great career, Olympic gold medalist

I may have misread it, but it looked disrespectful. It’s his trainer and team’s responsibility to ensure that their fighter is medically OK and has what is required, not Whyte’s.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 11:35 pmNot at all, he’s not that guy! For me, it’d have been better to let them do their work, ensure that the fighter was OK and then go to shake hands etc.
I can’t see Whyte beating Wilder to get a shot at Joshua or Fury. He’s not disciplined enough. Only way I’d see him beating Wilder is if he managed to get a big punch in. I can’t see him out boxing Wilder, nor being disciplined enough to avoid being KO’d himself.
Re: Boxing
It seems a judge in USA has ruled that fury must fight wilder in a 3rd meeting due to the contract. Before September.

Doubt that the Fury-Joshua fight wouldn't be a unified bout then would it, and that's what they're trying to sell isn't it.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 6:41 amYou can’t force a man to fight, I’d imagine they will just give up the belt and crack on with the planned fight
I suspect they'll be some form of compromise probably around money, and then hopefully the much awaited Fury-Joshua contest will finally get the green light.

Giving up the belt is irrelevant. It’s a contract fight regardless of belts. It’s all about the money.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 6:41 amYou can’t force a man to fight, I’d imagine they will just give up the belt and crack on with the planned fight
Step aside money and Wilder to face the winner for all belts is his best option on the face of it.

Difficult one really as the AJ v Fury is a 2 fight deal so ? 1 fight August, 1 fight before Xmas that takes you to spring 2022 for the next fight, if the 2 fights goes 1-1 who's the true undisputed ? waste of time this undisputed anyway as the champions last priority is mandatory fights they just want the mega super fights - so with 4 mandatories for 4 belts all wanting their shot - very messy. Although nothing to do with Eddie Hearn on the dispute with Fury - Wilder he could pay Wilder say 5 million and while waiting for his shot do a 2 fight deal of Whyte and Usky ? something like that to sweeten the pot. Just makes you laugh really that when AJ first became pro Hearn on the bandwagon urging the uk to get behind their man - and now their pimping out the 2 uk guys in a undisputed fight to the highest bidders - thanks for all your previous support guys.

Fury-Wilder III now confirmed for July.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/57216611
So the Joshua bout will have to go on the backburner for now anyway.

Re: Boxing
Fury asked to ditch the belt and fight AJ as planned by his father. Probably good advice as he was totally focused on that and not training for wilder. Beat AJ then go back for Wilders belt. Wilder will land one eventually.

I am pretty sure you are wrong there. My understanding is he can give up the belt that has the rematch contract with it and fight who he wants. His dad John Fury is advising him to give up the belts and face AJ but he's not listening. There's a good video clip on YouTube with him talking about it for around 10 minutes.Richardsbfc wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 7:10 amGiving up the belt is irrelevant. AJ would be mad to even consider that (he won’t consider it). Why would he put all his belts on the line for nothing in return? Makes no sense whatsoever. Re: Boxing
If Fury didnt have a belt up for grabs then it wouldnt be that bigger fight and would probably only generate around 20-30% of expected prize money.
Unless you're a proper boxing fan you're not gonna be arsed about AJ fighting a beltless Fury. Only way fight can happen is if both win their next fights

LOL thats very naive, it's never about the belts with these boxers, not since pre 2000s has belts been important. The whole plot is to make the fight happen at a time that maximises cash. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. Don't be fooled otherwise

They train like dogs for 20 years, and some leave with terrible health and no money. It should land in their pocket, not the managers & promoters, to be fair Eddie Hearn has been fantastic for British boxers on that front
Re: Boxing
Unified belts are normally impossible, owing to folk liking lots of champions, when they are fight promoters.Untinted Glasses wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 12:54 pmLOL thats very naive, it's never about the belts with these boxers, not since pre 2000s has belts been important. A unified champion...think of the history and then the money.

Totally agree tbh, the few that make it through deserve everything they can get. Too many different versions of belts nowadays. Yea Eddie Hearn has revitalised it like he did with poker before boxing. The thing with the belts, again I think it’s a good thing, otherwise you end up with top fighters never getting their shot because one fighter is signed into a 3 fight contract and then gets an injury so 3 years go by whilst they’re in their prime.Untinted Glasses wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 8:49 pmTotally agree tbh, the few that make it through deserve everything they can get. Re: Boxing
If Fury vs AJ is for all the belts it’ll add more hype to the build up and result in more money. I know belts don’t mean much to boxers these days but billing the fight as a once in a generation “undisputed” event will generate more PPV buys than if it was for all the belts except one. In the event Fury relinquishes his belt the winner would inevitably face the “but what about the other guy” conversation.

Re: Boxing
The way I understand it is the money is paid by the Saudis, Hearn agrees purses with the boxers and then it’s up to him to sell the fight / promote and get as much money as he can ( maybe a % of that is agreed to the boxers, but there main purse is agreed up front ? )SammyBoy wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 9:02 pmIf Fury vs AJ is for all the belts it’ll add more hype to the build up and result in more money. It’s contracted for immediate rematch and the arbiter ordered it regardless of belts on the line. As we’ve seen with Fury in the past, I am sure if he could then he would give up the belts.Untinted Glasses wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 10:51 amI am pretty sure you are wrong there. By all means, he can give up the belts and fight/not fight but not without consequence. If he gave up the belts but still fought, he would be sued. If he gave up the belts and didn’t fight then he would be sued even more. Basically, he has to fight otherwise gets sued.

Re: Boxing
I think the belts will only mean anything for the fighters to be honest. Gone are the days that fans get excited about belts on the line etc. There is far too many belts for Joe Bloggs to become World Champion and nobody know about it - example Trevor Bryan is a WBA HeavyWeight Champion which you probably didn’t know.SammyBoy wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 9:02 pmIf Fury vs AJ is for all the belts it’ll add more hype to the build up and result in more money. Fans would buy tickets/PPV for the fight and undercard regardless of belts on the line (and the fighters would probably earn more with them not on the line due to sanctioning fees of the governing bodies).

I am not sure where you are getting your info from but I still think your wrong. They just either fight or vacate, **** or get off the pot. Usyk would have gave up his belts and he would have had mandatory challenges, as would Maywesther, Josh Warrington, canelo, Saunders, david haye, just tons of them, obviously I can't remember them all. There's even talk Joshua could vacate as he doesn't like the idea of fighting Usyk next (basically wants to carry on hand picking muppets)Richardsbfc wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 7:09 amIt’s contracted for immediate rematch and the arbiter ordered it regardless of belts on the line. Re: Boxing
In Fury and Wilder case, the fight was already a signed/contracted fight which is the issue here. Covid hit and postponed the deal/fight. Arbitration ruled that previous contract needs to be fulfilled. If its not fulfilled in full then Team Wilder would sue Team Fury, hence the belts being pretty irrelevant on this occasion.Untinted Glasses wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 2:01 pmOnI am not sure where you are getting your info from but I still think your wrong. Joshua and all others mentioned would be fine to vacate as they didn't/don't have a signed contracted fight agreed.
Joshua / Usyk has been ordered by the governing body, its not contracted yet so either sign contract to fight or vacate belt.
