Philip on one of his many visits to Australia when going through customs, was jokingly asked buy a mischievous official,

"Do you have any convictions?"

Philip's reply-

"I hadn't realised it was still a requirement for entry!!!"

Quality!

I don’t think it’s a generational thing. There are plenty younger people who don’t suffer fools. I also think, as you get older, tolerance for idiocy wains.

RIP to a great man who let’s remember, gave up on many of his own ambitions to serve and was still working up until 2017!

Will numbers be restricted to 30 at the funeral like everyone else?
A great shame if they are, but many of us will be upset if they bend the rules, when we've experienced loss and not even been allowed church funerals at one point.
RIP Philip.

A man well ahead of his time, a moderniser and a great mind and a man who loved our little part of the world. Both Phillip and the Queen often escaped the glare of the public for a quiet spell incognito around East Lancs and the trough. His favourite home from home in the 90’s was the Inn at Whitewell and it wasn’t unknown as you picked up your Molten Brown supplies to find he had wandered into the shop behind you. I really really warm and genuine man.

My prayers are with Her Majesty and hope she finds strength to cope with the shattering shock this must be.
God bless RIP xx

RIP Philip shame he couldn't make it to his century, but a good innings, and quite a life he led.

As well as the obvious royal duties he was married to his beloved for over 70 years, and he sacrificed his own naval career to ensure he could support the queen in her role.

I've no doubt there'll be plenty of quips in the coming days, he certainly had a habit of putting his foot in his mouth, but that was what endured him to joe public whether you are a staunch royalist or not.

He's always been there during my lifetime, I'm sure we all knew it was coming soon but when I heard the news I just sat, very sad, felt as though a loss had happened. I have respect for the man and his role, not perfect by any means but a sad day and my thoughts and condolences go out to his family, I'm sure the country will provide a fitting send off and I hope the anti-royalists just stay quiet in the background and keep whatever thoughts they have to themselves.

I posted it because I think it presents a genuine predicament for the Royal Family, the Govt. and the authorities, and I find it odd that you should think I'm "spoiling for a fight", but for clarification:
The current rule of 30 is a very strange one, since if a Cathedral or church is large enough, you could have hundreds in attendance at an ordinary Sunday service, (providing that social distancing can be maintained), but then you're restricted to just 30 for a funeral in the same building the day after, or indeed on the same day. Funerals are very important to people, and deciding who the 30 should be is something that already grieving families have had to deal with.
Personally I think that the funeral rules, (which will change for indoor venues from May 12th anyway) could be relaxed for everyone from the day of Philip's funeral. That would be a fair compromise and would be a nice gesture to the country to mark Philip's death and allow us all to attend funerals from that day, (subject to distancing of course).
Realistically the funeral will probably take a couple of weeks to organise anyway, so it would only be bringing the date forward for funerals by a couple of weeks, and as I said initially, it's a bit of a strange rule anyway.

RIP Philip
A lifetime of servitude to his wife and country. Responsible in many ways from bringing the Monarchy in touch with the people. As a human being he had his flaws, like all of us he wasn't perfect, but far outweighed by the good he did.
Thoughts and prayers with his family.

99 is a decent innings I reckon. The blanket coverage seems a touch OTT, there's 24 news channels for exactly this sort of thing. Although I did find out today on Sky News that Phil and Elizabeth are related so we can all learn something I guess. I didn't know that until just now.

I've learnt more about him today than I ever knew

I never knew he'd published several books for example.

Seems to have always been doing something, always productive and I think always good stuff.

He even wrote to Princess Di when her marriage to Charles was in trouble but by his own admission he wasn't in any way shape or form a marriage counseler.
Turns out they were also reasonably close.

Bit OTT by the BBC completely shutting down TV and radio for the rest of the day. Do we really need BBC news channel and 1 and 2 showing the same tributes? They've even stopped the live updates from the Masters and the county championship on the app.
