I hope they all get booted out of their respective leagues and European competition with immediate affect

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
I think we should f them off and good riddance.
And the Premier League preserve six spots and start-up assistance for fan-owned replacements - - Manchester Blues, Manchester Reds, London Spurs, London Gunners, London Blues and Liverpool Reds. As with AFC Wimbledon I think they'd carry a solid 90% of the true local fan base. And at a stroke we'd have a fairer league as well.

UEFA say every club and player participating in the Super League will be banned from all UEFA and FIFA competitions. UEFA will sue every club participating €50-60 billion.

You'd have thought so, but listening to 5live tonight, there seemed to be a surprising number of "fans" who were all in favour of this nonsense.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 11:53 pmI don’t disagree with that position per se, but unfortunately the vast number of people associated with those clubs will be decent football people - like we are on this board. So we shouldn’t tar these people with the same brush as the greedy owners. I doubt many Spurs or Man U season ticket holders are in favour of this.
Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
Arsenal and Spurs signed up Arsenal are an absolute joke, they're midtable in the PL but want financial guarantees and guaranteed European football with no relegation? How about stop drawing at home to Fulham, losing at home to Villa/Burnley etc and earn Champions League qualification.... How about the Kroenke family take responsibility for the shambles at Arsenal, taking money out of the club to build an NFL stadium while Arsenal decline yearly, they have a big enough financial advantage over 50% of the other clubs in the league already, it's not like the club isn't generating millions already.
I say good luck to them, the national reaction to this news from ALL fans has shown there's a lack of interest and it will be strongly boycott. Fk the Americans trying to take over a non American sport, clowns don't have a clue what football means to local people, I say this a lot but people will NEVER understand what BFC means to BFC fans, you cannot fake or buy the emotional attachment that a local fan has. I cannot randomly ''support'' an NFL/Baseball team, foreigners like Alan Pace will NEVER get it (he seems a nice bloke, nothing personal).
Now is the time for the PL to bite back, the nation shall unite and support the FA in punishing these clubs. Ban the Glazers/Kroenkes from owning a PL club, ban the teams from competing, deduct 50+ points. The FA are spineless cowards but now they need to be brave and flex their power with the nation behind them.

Re: “A blatant power grab” – Fans criticise own clubs on UCL plans
Is this a power battle with the current Champions League rulers by certain clubs ( the elite) who want a guarantee that they will always be in the Champions League whatever position they finish in their national league ( ie membership) ?
Are they are trying to persuade by offering other non member clubs the opportunity to be part of it if they do well one season in their national league ? Their reward bestowed on them by the elite ( pat on the back)

A quick scan of the sites of the big three and the monied three suggests, unsurprisingly, that there is going to be a huge backlash to this.
That, alongside the backlash from all excluded clubs must surely have been expected.
If an opposing voice grows as much as it has the potential to, who knows where this could end up!

Occasional contributor to the MMT thread and a well recognised expert on football finance @TheEsk with a very precise observation on this news
The private equity guys fed on the carcasses of the 2008 credit crunch. They are doing the same on the footballing carcasses of a post pandemic, regulated UEFA myopic world. Football is losing because those that run football are less intelligent than those who can provide finance

They won’t be playing their superstars, they’ll all be too precious for the domestic league. What would it say for the Super League if one of their teams wasn’t to win the league!?
VAR officiated by Euro Super League referees to ensure their players are protected and the correct result achieved could be the answer!

The big money is made by qualifying for the Champions League. As that is effectively now guaranteed in perpetuity for these 6 ( in theory anyway ) the odd couple of million per place in the Premier League will hardly he worth bothering about for them.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 12:11 amWill there no longer be money to be made from winning the PL?

FIFA have released a statement - but it is not on their twitter account or website - doesn't say much in reality - probably too busy thinking of their expanded World Club Cup and how it's ecomomic model relies on those big European clubs

I don't know how they're trying to market it as the best teams, best players..... Milan haven't been a regular in the Champions League for 5+ years. Arsenal are mid table in the PL, I can't remember the last time Spurs won a trophy, Inter Milan can't get out of the CL group stages. Leicester are a better side than Arsenal and have been for years. Atalanta/Napoli have out performed Milan for years.

If that turns out to be the reality then there will be zero incentive for the fans of these clubs to follow their teams in the PL, if they think that no effort or priority is being placed on obtaining the best finishing position or winning the league. That greatly diminishes the PL package that Sky make so much money from promoting and selling to fans.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 12:16 amThe big money is made by qualifying for the Champions League. As that is effectively now guaranteed in perpetuity for these 6 ( in theory anyway ) the odd couple of million per place in the Premier League will hardly he worth bothering about for them.

The Super League is about attracting the type of fan described above and the currently ungrabbed revenue potential from them. This is why the Super League Statement talks about 4 billion fans for 12 clubs (it is a nonsense of multiple counting of social media users). The current hardcore club fans can still be milked though which is why they want to play domestic football to stay those revenues - over time that may change but not in the next 10 - 20 years. Those fans will still crave domestic titles and cupsChester Perry wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 1:27 pmI have been posting about this extensively on the MMT thread for 3 years now, there has been plenty on there in the last month alone.
............ On Thursday the ECA released a new report that Defined the modern fan (you can find it on the MMT thread) it makes for interesting reading and from it you can see why the ECA are ignoring the committed fan (they are already being rinsed for everything they can afford and probably more and are unlikely to give up that commitment - it is all about the occasional spectator and understanding them so they can rinse them more to grow revenues and it is from this perspective that all these changes and talks of what people want is coming from. No matter what they say publicly there is absolutely no interest in the wider football family.

The sanctions against these clubs must be massive , the biggest in history . The audacity to challenge their own domestic leagues and the already competitive Champions League by creating their own ‘Special’ European League and wanting to maintain membership of their parent league is beyond any words that have ever been created in life

Thats precisely my point. Its all very well them saying they intend to carry on playing in their domestic leagues. It would appear in reality however that those League games would become largely irrelevant to them , which would in turn reduce the competitive integrity of the League.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 12:26 amIf that turns out to be the reality then there will be zero incentive for the fans of these clubs to follow their teams in the PL, if they think that no effort or priority is being placed on obtaining the best finishing position or winning the league. This “just let them go” mentality I’ve seen on here is dangerous and exactly what they want. It has to be resisted at every turn.

Burnley winning at Liverpool or Arsenal, once this Super League gets started, will not be as noteworthy or seen as such a great achievement if it appears that neither Arsenal nor Liverpool were making every effort to win to secure the highest league position possible.

Without the Big Six clubs plus 1 or 2 others it will diminish the standing of the PL making it less attractive to sell TV rights nationally and worldwide.
Less TV money will not be good news for those clubs that rely heavily on this form of revenue for their main income.

for sure, utter carnage is upon us no doubt. You would think it would reduce any transfer spend in the summer for clubs because of the uncertainty. Real Madrid fly in to Manchester, and at 1pm on the day of the game, Manchester City Council meet and pass a " new " requirement for the issuance of a " Ground safety " Certificate, It could be anything, " required number of certified Spanish speaking stewards per head for away fans ", " Unable to guarantee no fans have brought flares ", " Monthly fire retardant certificates for seats " etc
Another scenario, irate fans storm the stadium, start pulling out seats, rampaging through the corporate areas smashing wine bottles and throwing around prawn sandwiches, start digging up the pitch etc .... the Police are phoned, " I'm sorry, Mr Glazer, all of our personnel are deployed at the moment, and in any event Sir, didn't you say your Company owned the ground ? Well, I'm afraid that's private property, Sir, a Civil matter, unless I'm very much mistaken .... I might be able to send you a leaflet from " Victim Support ", if that's of any use to you ? "

It certainly makes you wonder what we have to spend this year with such threats on the horizon and the debt liability that we are now carryingVegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 12:56 amfor sure, utter carnage is upon us no doubt. You would think it would reduce any transfer spend in the summer for clubs because of the uncertainty. I'm still for the greedy 6 to be kicked out though, they already have too much power and if they walk all over the PL/UEFA/FIFA then it will never stop

I'd rather the PL have them play at 8pm on a Tuesday night, Super league on a Weds, then a 8pm kick off on a Thursday, 3pm on a Saturday - rinse and repeatClarets4me wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 12:57 amIn an ideal world, the " authorities " could play a big part here ....

given covid and today's news I would say minimal to nothing unless they know something we don't. The problem for us will be other teams will still throw money they don't have to try and qualify for the new CL - at this moment in time the big 6 won't be in it next season which opens it up to pretty much every other club in the PL.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 12:58 amIt certainly makes you wonder what we have to spend this year with such threats on the horizon and the debt liability that we are now carrying
Whatever happens, we must stay up
