Re: Watford promoted
I think Norwich may be a surprise package next season, after sticking with Farke. He will have learned a lot from that season and will adapt accordingly.
Re: Watford promoted
The Norwich Board may also adapt a bit more and increase their transfer funds from the previous season

Re: Watford promoted
I wouldn't get too blase about the prospects of either newly promoted side, let's just wait and see what transfer business we conduct before making any rash predictions.
And also remember Watford only went down due to a faulty referee's watch at Villa, so I certainly wouldn't be writing them off.
Norwich have easily walked the Championship, but as last time their biggest issue will be strengthening their squad to be able to compete at this level on limited funds.
So of the 3 relegated sides, 2 have bounced straight back, and the 3rd Bournemouth have every chance of coming through the play-offs.
What this says about the overall strength of the Championship is debatable, but there is clearly a gap emerging between the 2 leagues, and covid won't have made that situation any more equitable, indeed if anything it's just exacerbated the gulf in spending that already existed.

Re: Watford promoted
Watford and Norwich coming straight back up means extra money for us and the other PL clubs due to Parachute payments being saved

yep and Watford were very strong the previous season. We will need to strengthen and hopefully Pace is able to action that for us alltiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 7:35 pmI wouldn't get too blase about the prospects of either newly promoted side, let's just wait and see what transfer business we conduct before making any rash predictions.

Re: Watford promoted
As an interesting aside with both Norwich and Watford getting promoted back after 1 season the prem lge save themselves 84m in parachute payments, if Bournemouth get promoted that rises to 106m saving which then gets shared amongst the prem teams as bonus revenue the following season.

people love to dog on the Watford/Chelsea hiring and firing method but it certainly works for those clubs.

As good as it is for the likes of Watford and Norwich, yesterday feels similar for us.
The rewards are the same - another year in the Premier League with the financial benefits that brings.

Rotating managers works at Chelsea, trophies to prove it.
It doesn't achieve much at Watford.

Burnley v Barnsley in the Premier League would be amazing.

Re: Watford promoted
They've been doing OK in the Premier League (obviously just had a year out but straight back again) with a wage bill that's pretty similar to ours. They've not done badly.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 3:23 pmRotating managers works at Chelsea, trophies to prove it.

Re: Watford promoted
I can see Watford staying up next season, they've got several experienced pros who know what it takes to survive in the PL, and they'll no doubt strengthen in the summer, how many managers they get through over the course of the season to achieve that objective is another question entirely, it's a strange business model in my view, but it somehow seems to work for them in the main.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 1:15 amyep and Watford were very strong the previous season. And yes of course we need to strengthen, let's not get fooled by yesterday's result that we don't have weaknesses to address in our squad, that would be folly of the highest order on our part.

Re: Watford promoted
Highest finish is 11th though.
Chelsea rotate managers to keep themselves up near the top and in contention for trophies.
Watford did it for no other reason than survival it would appear, so pretty pointless tbh.

That's the Premier League though, survival is everything for most clubs.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 5:40 pmHighest finish is 11th though.
