Sun reporting us and Watford are interested in Jacob Murphy if Newcastle can’t talk him into extending.

Has been important for Newcastle at the latter end of the season playing wing back, would be a useful acquisition.

Certainly played well against us.

I don't think we can raise his Newcastle wages so unless he has fallen out with them?

£25,000 pw according to the net, presume that's basic, cos he'll have all those win bonuses, of course ;)

Still under contract for next season and Bruce has hinted he wants the club to extend current deal

He's probably every intention of staying, it's just a perfect opportunity for him and his Agent to put out a few whispers waiting for the Club to offer him a nice pay rise. Players have all the power these days.

Burnley are ready to bid £9m to sign Republic of Ireland Under-21 centre-back Nathan Collins, 19, from Stoke City. (Football Insider)

If the above stories are true, unless the new board have a dramatic shift in transfer policy we have no chance of recruiting any players wanting by other Premiership clubs. The story about a £9 bid seems to be our level. I hope I'm wrong and the Americans invest

Collins is the name that won’t go away and I’d be very happy if we continue to pursue him.

If we sign a 19yr championship player for 9m then we're either the only premier league team in for him or he's not rated by others.

Although a kind word from Vokes and Ward won't go a miss.

....or he's seen how the likes of Michael Keane and James Tarkowski have developed here and thinks it's the best move for him as a stepping stone to a potentially bigger move further down the line.

When we don't get linked with a player before others we need to be better in the market

When we get linked with a player first it must be that he isn't rated.

Does it not wear you out a little always looking for a negative ?

Hopefully one or 2 start a new thread on the same topic then you can dust off your high vis :D

Linked with Manchester United and Liverpool. Suspect it's premature for them though. As said above our club has a great recent track record at signing and developing centre halves.

That would be good business, replacing Gibson with Collins for virtually the same money. Presuming he's good enough to be the next Keane/Tarkowski.
Stoke fans seems to think he's got potential. That way we can use the Tarkowski money to buy a right winger.

We should have some money to spend in the summer even if the new owners aren't going to have deep pockets, "bounes" extra money for next season that shouldn't come out of the budget is between 4.8 (2 clubs coming up) and 7 million if all three come up from Norwich Watford and possibly Bournemouth add this to the sale of Gibson 8 million and the possible sale of Tarkowski of around 20 million and there should be around 28 to 35 million for new players minimum

People saying it's a low bid, but I'm struggling to think of many championship defenders with no PL experience going for more than say 10m with a 25% sell on.

There's Cash from NF to Villa but sky tend to report transfer fees as if every add on was paid.

Exactly.

The murmurigs are that the new owners are very much prepared to stretch the fees we offer and this is, if anywhere near accurate, a reasonable opening bid.

The thing which is difficult to measure is "potential". You can only ever put a best guess on this. We got it right with Keane and Tarkowski. We may still be proved right about the footballing potential of Gibson but that didn't work out for other reasons.

Replacing Gibson is one job. Another is replacing Tarkowski. We will require two centre halves (especially if Dunne leaves as is expected).

Hopefully one who is young with great potential (like Collins) and another who is a bit more experienced for now. For example, John Egan at Sheffield United would be a good signing imo.

I was under the impression the sale of Tarks would cover things like China rebate, Interest on debt, lower revenue due to Covid?

Think if we sold Tarks for 20m we would only get something like 15m because of the Brentford sell on clause.

Most sensible thing we could do is sell Tarkowski to West Ham, take Dawson as part of the deal and then pick up a Collins as understudy.

The centre half at Sheffield Utd - not the left winger from Haslingden in the 60's.... :)

Robinson from Fulham would be a great buy. 6 months with Dyche and he would be top class. Already a very good player and more chance of buying from Fulham when they go down
Signed from Wigan for 2 million.

I’ve been impressed with him every time I see him but with Charlie & Erik on board LB is a long way from the top of our shopping list.

if you are talking defenders from Fulham, Joachim Andersen has looked decent on the limited appearances I've seen him. He is only on loan from Lyon, it's his first season in the premier league but is the team captain and only 24 with bags of experience for a relatively young age.
A full Danish international, champions league experience, and played in a few countries so plenty of potential and obviously already has many qualities

6 foot 3 and looks very much in the Dyche mould for a CB.
Signed on a 5 year deal 2 years ago for €24, so maybe Lyon want to recoup some cash back on him, maybe 15m would see him step straight in to Tarky's shoes, and I'd like to think with a little change from any money recieved from Tarkys exit.

Andersen would be a dream signing, albeit unlikely if the likes of Chelsea and Spurs have their beady eyes on him.

Agreed, but we could possibly merge the two players we might have no chance with on here and pursue florian lejeune, who seems to have been mistreated by Bruce and would seriously upgrade our cb3 position. If/when tarka goes he is a more than decent replacement.

I don't see what Bruce had against him. Maybe he was embarrassed by having a centre half with ball skills. 2 if you count fabian schar. Best stick to what you know eh? Play Schar in a defensive midfield role so that there are still three cd's available to play like cb's should......

Not linked as such but I noticed Andros Townsend”s contact is up at Palace at the end of June , yet to sign a new deal, on the fringes of the Palace team often on the subs bench. His current wage according to spotrac.com is 55k per week (stumbled across the website unsure of it’s validity) however is he a player we could afford , could he fill our wide right issue and is he a type clarets fans would like to see here ?

Whenever I have watched him he has always impressed me and does strike me as a Dyche type.

I assume he must not be consistent to be up for free this summer because ive never seen him have that many bad games myself.
