Does anyone know anything about a wall collapsing at the Bee Hole End sometime in the 50s.

Look the way the ref is looking at his watch as if to say to the poor injured gentleman β€œcome on, get up, we’ve got a game to finish”

I bet he didn't roll over several times and then hold his head!

Good early time wasting though, teach these youngsters a thing or two. And he wasn't even playing!

I’m not sure where I read it now, but I have it in my mind that it was a game v Arsenal in the early 1950’s, with a crowd of over 54,000?

Why do they always print "St. John's Ambulance" instead of "St John Ambulance"?

Burnley v Sunderland 31st January 1953. Several supporters injured when the Bee Hole End wall collapsed. Mostly children hurt.
Bob Lord was the Grounds manager then.

Shocking to see rampant global warming back then and everybody oblivious to it and treating it just as "a flood".

14,000 Sunderland fans. What an amazing following, but normal for big FA Cup ties I’d imagine. I think we took around 13,000 to Man United in the late 60’s I remember reading on here? All ticket games means numbers would be known.

There would have been 14 or more trains carrying the 14,000 down from Sunderland, arriving at Burnley Manchester Road and BUrnley Bank Top (Central), one after another. The sidings at Bank Top station Must have been quite a sight to see that day.
