PSG-City
Pep playing with no recognised striker again tonight, genius or madness I guess we'll only know that come the end of tonight, and indeed the tie.
But it looks a risky strategy to me against a team of PSG'S calibre.
And how come each side can name 12 subs, is that another rule change I've missed. or am I going

City pushing to get back in this, but PSG look so quick to break through midfield, could easily get another.
Looking like a good game.

That was an incredibly soft goal to concede at this level, yes it's a decent delivery and header, but City should have defended it far better than they did.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:18 pmZonal marking greatness lmfao PSG 1 up with a free header from a corner

Peps got his tactics wrong.
Foden isn't a left winger and city are just passing for passing sake. Done nothing in the final 3rd.

Re: PSG-City
Pep's being too clever by half again in this comp. just play your strongest XI, and you surely have to play a striker, De Bruyne and Foden have the ability to unlock defences, but if you don't have a focal point to service their talent is wasted, and you really feel City will need an away goal, because I'm confident PSG will score in Manchester.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:28 pmPeps got his tactics wrong.

Two very good teams on show here tonight. They are both playing the kind of stuff we played against Wolves, but neither of them has a Chris Wood to finish off their attacking play.

yep, I've always felt that's been the issue for Celtic and Rangers at this level, very hard to turn it on at a much higher level for one game.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:52 pmPrior to the game, on 5live they were saying the fact PSG aren't walking the league has made them be more competitive in a way in the champions league.
Don't worry though, City will just go and sign Haaland or Kane in the summer (and a few more) and try again next year !!

Re: PSG-City
I think there's very much a split like we have, I'd say whereas we have 6 "strong" teams maybe they have 4, and the bottom half maybe weaker or less competitive but I'd disagree that it's not a good league - i'd save that for places like Scotland.

Re: PSG-City
Aguero not ready yet and he doesn’t trust Jesus. With all their money why he hasn’t signed a top striker in the last few windows is beyond me.
He is obviously a great coach but he has had an easy ride. Barca with the greatest collection of Spanish talent ever and Messi as the cream on top, followed by Bayern who win everything in Germany, then City who have given him everything he has asked for. I’d love to see him work with a cash poor team and see if he could get the same out of them but it will never happen.

I'm ambivalent as too who wins it, however It's worth noting PSG are the only one of the 4 remaining who didn't propose to join the ESL.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:29 pmI usually want the English teams to do well in Europe but I'd love to see Pochetinno win it, plus I think Fraudiola sulking is pretty hilarious
Poch could be heading to his 3rd successive CL final, which in anyone's book is an impressive record, and he also seems to have the Indian sign over Pep in this competition, he knocked City out in 2019 with Spurs. and he could be about to repeat the dose with PSG.

aye but that's because they couldn't - owned by the country who FIFA awared the world cup to..........
On the other point as mentioned further up, I'd love to see Pochetinno win it - don't forget him and Dyche are mates so I'm expecting us to get Mbappe on loan next season

Well if the French league isn't that strong it will reflect badly on City and the PL if they crash out to a French side 2 years on the trot.

Wasn't Pep brought in by City to win the CL, another failure this time and you do wonder when the owners will lose patience.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:59 pmAguero not ready yet and he doesn’t trust Jesus. And I too am baffled by their reluctance to sign a top class striker, especially now Aguero is coming towards the end of his city career. I understand that in the market City operate in the options are limited, but you'd have thought with their pulling power they'd have been able to get someone through the door.

I’ll be surprised if PSG can keep this work rate up for 90 mins.
They’ll need plenty of time wasting from Di Maria and Neymar.

Re: PSG-City
The concept in itself isn't necessarily the problem, it's the manner in which it's been sprung on all the other clubs, and the fact that the so called dirty dozen felt entitled to self appoint themselves as automatic members, now if the idea had some sort of merit based approach behind it, and you had to actually earn your place at the echelon, then it might not have been received so unfavourably.
Plus there's also got to be some form of jeopardy involved in the form of promotion/relegation every season, without that the games become meaningless, and there won't be any interest even from the casual football fan, the reason the CL works particularly in the latter stages is the drama and suspense it creates, and any league format will always struggle to recreate the thrill of ko football whatever the competition.

TV comms regularly say get them balls on target and somebody leaping for it. Makes it very difficult to defend.

True. Those ones are tricky for the keeper. Wouldn’t necessarily say he was at fault, it was jus a very good ball in.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 9:27 pmTV comms regularly say get them balls on target and somebody leaping for it. Makes it very difficult to defend.

City stepped it up a notch or two in the second half and PSG have just lost their heads.
Losing 2-1 and a red card.
Maybe Pep got his tactics right? Keeping the ball and watch them boil over with frustration.

Never doubt the genius of Pep, always one step ahead of the footballing world. To think that some of the berks on here actually think Dyche is the better manager of the two
Re: PSG-City
Whilst he's obviously the better manager his idea of strengthening the defence is not to make the defenders better, but simply buy another one if the previous defender he bought isn't good enough.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 9:54 pmNever doubt the genius of Pep, always one step ahead of the footballing world. Re: PSG-City
Classic game of 2 halves, PSG dominated in the first but couldn't take their chances, and full credit to Pep because whatever he instructed at HT it worked a treat, Foden was outstanding again, and that lad surely has to start for England in the Euro's, mind you City's cause was helped by 2 clangers from the keeper.
The tie is far from over yet, but it does beg the question who would City rather face in the final, Chelsea or Real, I actually think they'd be happier playing Real, partly because they will still have fresh memories of beating them last season, but also because Tuchel and Chelsea caused City major problems in the FA Cup semi final, and ultimately showed how to play against City to defeat them.
