Did I miss something ? Why didn't Vardy have to go off after receiving treatment ? Is there a rule that I have missed?

You don’t have to go off if the offender gets a card.
Given for denying a GSO and correct for me.

No. He played the ball but as he was sat on his arse he studded Steptoe and denied him the chance.

Obviously. He denied a GSO by winning the ball

He was supposed to let Vardy have it !!! Miracle recovery by Vardy as well !!

utter nonsense, it was a brilliant tackle that won the ball. He should have been awarded extra points for clonking Vardy

(that was a joke btw)

If that’s a red card then I no longer gain no enjoyment from watching top level English football. I hope Burnley milk the top level (and funding it brings) for as long as possible but if incidents like that are the new norm, no thank you from me.

It was just like the wrong red card for the West Ham full back last week, once he has won the ball , where is he supposed to put his foot.

Thanks Watt from Ware for the clarification, I wasn't aWARE of that. Quite frankly I think it's wrong for the "not at fault player' to have to leave the pitch when the offender gets to stay on anyway.

Terrible decision and is clearly a ref who wants the spotlight

Another shocking decision that should have overturned by Moss on VAR. What a shocking referee this bloke Jones is.

Both pundits in the studio say no foul and therefore no sending off, ridiculous decision. This ref is a complete tosser and again the VAR ref has no balls to advise him his decision is wrong because he is a rookie and needs supporting.

His next game after the Leeds game was at Newcastle, where the ball hit him 3 times, which suggests poor positioning, he didn't get many games after that

I was on a Zoom meet, so missed the incident.
They showed it again and I saw the good interception, way ahead of Vardy's arrival, then Barry running onto his leg and squeaking.
A red card and I laughed, as I recognised the idiot ref.
Thought that will be overturned and if any justice, Barry should be booked for self harming.
Only now do I see that the red was not overturned!
Total farce and clear evidence of prem orders.

Modern game, get used to it because it isn't going to get any better.
The ball no longer matters in the modern game, players' safety is paramount and the more contact that can be penalised, for whatever reason, the nearer we come to a non-contact sport.
Sad, however, this seems to be the aim and, yet again, it is the officials who get all the flak even when following directives

That's harsh on the League 2 clubs, this Jones idiot isn't good enough to ref at schoolboy level, how the hell he's still getting PL gigs beats me.
As for the result it could have been worse for us, at least Leicester fought back to salvage a point, and that draw removes any lingering doubt about whether Saints will be in the PL next season.

On the one hand I agree with you, but sadly we need to retain our place at the top table to allow us to compete on a relatively equal footing with the monied clubs.

The games gone next heading will be banned along with it a free kick if the ball goes off the grass by an inch. City will then get aguero out of retirement and play him in his preferred CB position.

Just seen this on Optus sports here. Wow just wow.
Neil Lennon in the studio “he’s panicked, he’s out of control of his body, and deliberately taken vardy out” Russel Osman agrees with him.
Years ago we joked about woman knowing nothing about the offside rule.
Well now, who know anything about today’s football.
I only watch Burnley games now, the rest is just not the game I knew and loved. If that’s what they want, sorry, they can have it, it’s not for me.

It appears that the rules have been changed and you are now penalised if the consequences of your tackle include heavy contact with an opposing player. You can no longer do a “man and ball” tackle or a clearance where you clear the ball and subsequently collide with a player (Mee v Gomez when Mee cleared the ball and Gomez broke his leg)

But wasn’t it Vardy who got there second? Just like Pope got there before Bsmford?
Maybe the defender should now stand back and just say “after you sir”

I've just seen this on Youtube and it looks a foul to me.
It looks like Vestergaard goes in with his studs showing which is dangerous. The question of whether he prevented a scoring opportunity after catching Vardy is debateable. It looks to me that there was a good chance that Vardy could have got to the ball. If so then the red card is surely correct even if Vestergaard got the ball.

As bad as the decision was, it's another goal resulting from c*cking about at the back with the ball instead of getting it up the field.

This "out of control" mantra is utter ********. In theory when you make any sliding tackles you will never have full control of your body.
The game will end up like training sessions, with defenders running around jockeying with their hands behind their back not committing to any challenge.
And thus cheats will prosper and training ground teams like City will win everything in sight.
It's like the episode of the Simpsons where they watch soccer and nothing actually happens. Perhaps this is another thing they'll predict correctly.

The referees are going to start suffering if appeals are won. We had one win against the referees at West Ham and hopefully Southampton will win this one. Maybe the likes of Jones, the only referee I ever saw ruin a pre-season friendly, will be banished for good. He's really an appalling official with no understanding of the game whatsoever. The problem is, suspend Jones and Riley might bring in Tim Robinson who could be next in line. Heaven help us.

I’ve just seen the tackle and I don’t think He meant to hurt Vardy in any way, but it was a reckless challenge. I’d be annoyed if someone did that to one of our forwards and I’d want a red card too. That said, if it was Tarky with the late challenge I’d defend him all the way saying he got the ball.
With hindsight as it was a goal scoring opportunity and also reckless it had to be red.
It is also different to when Pope got there first against Leeds, the risk of injury was for Pope not the Leeds player, so the reckless element doesn’t apply in that challenge, for me.

I think he's sent off because he miscontrols the ball and therefore it looks like a lunge.
Had it been a loose ball that Vardy was running on to and Vestergard made an identical challenge I don't think it would've been a red.
It's because he makes a mistake in the first place it appears he panics and overcompensates. You can see from the direction the ball moves that it's a clean tackle, and Vardy, like all good footballers these days, makes sure the ref knows he was caught so it gives the ref a decision to make.

Tony, there are quite a number in the refereeing fraternity who see Jones as a leading light and forecasting that he will be one of the best with a bit more experience. They thought his performance last night was very good.
This, along with a number of other things in the pipeline, prompted me to say that we are getting nearer and nearer to a sport where every contact is penalised one way or another.
We have seen two instances this week where a defender doing his job has been dismissed because they actually kicked the ball. Nick Pope had a penalty given against him because he played the ball. Several other defenders have had free kicks given against them and received cautions because ----they kicked the ball!
We are playing a game called football, however, it would seem that the least acceptable part of the game is to actually put a foot to the ball.
I have had enough of this sterile game at the top level.

Except that the contact was Vardy deliberately tripping both feet over the defenders leg.
