Paul Pogba salary demands
Apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere I've not been posting much the past few days, but if rumours are to be believed Paul Pogba and particularly his agent are demanding his basic wage to sign a new deal is upped to 500k a week, and once you take his image rights into account he could be earning 800k a week, exactly what planet do these people live on with these crazy demands, and more pertinently where do they imagine the club will find the money from to sustain these mad outgoings.
I understand the players aren't happy about the prospect of a ESL, but if they expect to continue to earn mega bucks then the cash has to be sourced from somewhere doesn't it, Pogba's has had a decent season, but he's not worth that obscene amount not in my view, and if United cave in too his demands my fear is this will inflate the wages for every other team, which could have a knock on effect right throughout the pyramid.
I genuinely thought that the fall out from the failed ESL project would inject sanity back into the game, but sadly this doesn't appear to be the case, and you do have to wonder exactly what will cause a reality check in football, because at this rate it won't be long before we see the first £1m a week footballer.

Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
Tbh Tiger, I think the bigger issue is anyone signing one of Riola’s clients. I wouldn’t go near Pogba, Haarland, etc. however talented they are.
United are in a right pickle with it now - give in or lose him for nothing.
Can’t say I feel too sorry for them after the ESL situation though.

I wonder how many of yesterday's protesters will be up in arms if United wont agree and he signs for one of their rivals ?

I expect the likes of Pogba were all for the SuperLeague. Mercenaries rarely worry about causes.
Manchester United fans expect United to lead in the paying stakes, the star stakes and the trophy stakes. If things get to levelling the playing field commercially I’d be amazed if they were not up in arms.

Probably is but having smoke blown up his arse from those pocketing big bucks for swarming around him and clubs willing to pay just to show they can, must make it easy to become an arsehole.
Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
The one thing about a Super League is that it would mean horrible parasites like Pogba and his agent clear off on there own somewhere and leave the rest of them to get on with the game.

I blame those clubs for wanting to spend ridiculous amounts of money on the arrogant tosser.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 3:18 pmProbably is but having smoke blown up his arse from those pocketing big bucks for swarming around him and clubs willing to pay just to show they can, must make it easy to become an arsehole.

One of the added bonuses of Burnley being in the PL is seeing world class players on the Turf.
Pogba doesn't come close to being amongst the best we've been fortunate enough to see.

Funny that because according to a lot of the so called protestors yesterday, they don’t like greed.
Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
How many games have people watched and thought Wow! Pogba's on a different level to the other player's, or how many times has he dragged united back into a game or got them over the line, i can only think of one when i think he scored twice in a Manchester derby and they ended up winning 3-2 other than that he looks bang average and yet he wants between 500k and 800k a week, I'd love to hear Fergie's thoughts on the demands, I wasn't a fan of Ferguson's but you wouldn't fancy Pogba's chances of getting his demands. The game's gone for me, totally and utterly crazy.

Fair enough I certainly didn't post yesterday that much I do recall, Most of those posts were probably on the cricket thread mind you or STB.
I just thought in the circumstances this was a relevant point to highlight, and it does show how much cash United's owners are shelling out on the playing side, so I'm not quite sure why the United fans are so much up in arms about the Glazers, because it's not like they haven't invested in the squad, Fernandes is another obvious big money signing as is DVB, now whether all that investment has been spent wisely or delivered the rewards some of the United hordes expected is another question entirely, but you can hardly accuse them of not putting money into the club.

Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
I think once the dust has settled on recriminations of the ESL.
The Premier League, FA and UEFA have to seriously look at agents.
Along with many people, I believe the agent works for the player, and as such should be paid for only by the player. If said player wants to chuck his money away, let him.

Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
The whole of football has been living beyond it's means for far too long now, and yes I'll happily include the likes of KDB in that if it makes you feel better, I fully understand the arguments about it being a relatively short career, but precisely how much money do these guys actually need to live a reasonable lifestyle for heaven's sake, and it's precisely this greed which is fuelling the discontent of fans with the modern game, it's certainly fuelling mine anyway perhaps others may disagree and think that these guys are worth every penny due to being at the top of their profession, but there surely comes a tipping point when the people writing the cheques say enough is enough, and I'll be interested what happens in Pogba's case, if United say no to his demands where is he going to go?, because I can't see an obvious home for him on that salary, neither of the Spanish giants are seemingly in a position to offer a lucrative deal, and PSG or Bayern won't be interested, there's talk of him returning to Juve, but beyond them I don't see many options if he does decide to leave OT, I suspect he'll pen a new improved deal but not at 500k a week, hence why the bargaining is beginning now, and they'll reach a compromise somewhere in the middle.

I ditched Sky long before that, and if that's what it takes then so be it, however as the ESL idea showed the European market isn't what's driving the growth, it's seemingly America and Asia where they hope to coin it in with subscription services.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 4:20 pmAt least I won't be paying for him. Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
I don't disagree with you regarding the large salaries, however what the solution is I'm afraid I don't know, I've thought for about a decade now that eventually the market would settle down, but that hasn't proved to be the case certainly not at the elite levels of the game, and salaries just seem to be inexorably increasing year on year, now that's fine if the clubs can sustain it, but you do fear for the whole sport if and when the inevitable collapse does arise, we've already seen first hand what damage the ITV Digital debacle had on BFC and many others in the FL, now as yet the PL appears immune to any such catastrophe, but I wouldn't be too sure that will forever remain the case, and if and when it does transpire then we'll see exactly how committed these owners are to their clubs.
Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
This is the way I see it.
If football Club A has a player they value at say £90m and football Club B agrees to pay that. Club A receives £90m and Club B receives a £90m asset. The player then has every right imho to receive the equivalent over however many years his contract is.
I’m sure Manchester United will want top dollar for Pogba. It’s his agents job to seek that in wages. It like with Tarkowski. We can’t reject bids of £30/40m and expect him to sign for £60,000 a week. It makes no sense from the players point of view.
Transfer fees are the issue for me.

I’ve always thought that was the rough guide to a players wage - cost of transfer spread over the length of the contract = the players wage (as a ball park figure).Dyched wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 4:47 pmThis is the way I see it.

Might be pedantic here, but United's owners, the Glazers, do not and never have invested in the running of the club, they take a dividend - even in the year when the club ran at a loss. Furthermore the club pays the interest on the loans the owners used to purchase the club. Investment in players come from the money the club "earns". For all the criticism Ed Woodward gets he has overseen vast sums come into the club.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 3:58 pm

If you believe everything you read in the newspaper, players are puppets to agents. Re: Paul Pogba salary demands
So the Glazers are just using Utd as a cash cow then, now some of the fans displeasure begins to make sense, and yes the supporter who was interviewed on MOTD last night did refer to the interest payments to service the debt, I only hope we're not having the same conversation in a few months time regarding BFC'S finances, but I sadly fear that may well prove to be the case, especially if we don't improve our playing squad significantly this window.Claret Toni wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 5:45 pmMight be pedantic here, but United's owners, the Glazers, do not and never have invested in the running of the club, they take a dividend - even in the year when the club ran at a loss. Interesting to see whether the owners can continue to hide behind Ed Woodward, he'll be off soon, and therefore they won't be able to reserve all the blame for United's travails on his shoulders any more, and they may find themselves coming under increasing fire from an irate support, they may even think it'll be a good time to sell up, but I'm not well enough versed in Utd's finances to know whether now would be a good time for the Glazers to cash in or not.
It would help if these faceless owners actually made an appearance at their clubs now and again, the only one that seems to be seen publicly is RA at Chelsea. but the rest are conspicuous by their absences.
