Alec Lindsay in the Bury team as well, and a few familiar names for Stoke.

Bobby Owen presented me with my medal for winning the Rossendale Sunday Schools League circa 1968. It was quite funny as although it was under 15s, already I was taller than him.

Waldron - shows great promise

Did he? An outstanding signing for us and one of the best central defenders I’ve seen play for us.

Just wondering if that's the same Jimmy Kerry that was in Bury's promotion side from Div.4 in 1974.
Looking at the Stoke team I think Farmer, Marsh, Smith and possibly Bentley all made the first team. Is that Mike Bernard at No10 who went on to play for Everton and possibly Willie Carr at No8 who went on to Coventry and was involved.in that infamous free kick v Everton?

I used to love watching Waldron and Thomson in central defence, for me a better pairing than our current two and that's not knocking Mee and Tarkowski.

I think the Bentley in the team was the lad who played at Blackpool for a good few years

Always hard to compare 70s defenders with the current generation. The lack of footage saves the 70s players blushes, I imagine. But I remember Waldron being a great player. He was a fantastic signing from Chelsea, the same club who sold us the dependable Jim Thomson.

Bobby Owen was our landlord for a while at a pub in bury and turned out for our sunday team obviously didnt have the legs but his control was immaculate and he could hit a ball.

Waldron and Thomson was a fantastic pairing. Waldron is probably my favorite claret. Excellent defender, great captain and not shy about scoring a few goals either.

I don't think that it's willie Carr. He was with Coventry as a youth. It will be Mike Bernard though. I expected to see Alan bloor on the list with them. Bentley, I think, is the one that went on to play for Blackpool, Bill Bentley.

I can still picture Waldron's volley at Deepdale that clinched the then 2nd division championship.
Stunning!
