Biggest flops this season
Shane Duffy sent back to Brighton from Celtic costing them 3m in a loan fee.
Willian move to Arsenal hasn't gone well. Free transfer but huge wages.
Who's yours?

Re: Biggest flops this season
I thought that Shane Duffy has been outstanding for one of the Glasgow clubs this season.

Good player, just hasn't really happened for him at the moment.

£27m for Rodrigo (to Leeds) looked like they were overpaying at the time, and still does.

Can't comment on the 'stinker' assessment as haven't been following how he's been doing but see he's only started 12 games. Can I assume we dodged a bullet?

I didn’t realise just how bad Duffy had been for Celtic until I read the press this week after his return to BrightonQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 10:27 pmShane Duffy sent back to Brighton from Celtic costing them 3m in a loan fee.

Re: Biggest flops this season
Werner is an interesting one.
Some highlight reel misses, sure.
But double figures for goals and for assists in a debut season in a foreign country where his manager was sacked half way through and he’s often played out of a position and he’s not been able to go home to see his family because of a global pandemic. And despite that he’ll be playing in an FA Cup final and Champions League final this month.
I’d focus on the fact he got in those positions to miss those chances. I think he’ll end up being an excellent signing for Chelsea.

Danny van der Beek (sp)
Wasn't he meant to be a big and exciting signing tor 40m or whatever it was?
I don't think I've heard his name mentioned anywhere since signing, never mind seen him play, not that I watch Man United much.
Forty million pounds!

Lacazette's flop to the floor at the Turf was pretty damned dramatic. As was his screaming.

Outside of the clarets: probably just Arsenal in general. No longer an elite club and a hell of long way back into the top 6. Leicester under Rogers could very well take there spot at the top table.
In the clarets: either Jay Rod or Brownhill. Both been ok but think we all expected a lot more.

Re: Biggest flops this season
For me that 1 really takes the biscuit & it’s a definite gold contender based on that as a contributing factor resulting in relegation. Whoever sanctioned that deal & fee from the recruitment department need there head looking at, I think it was 1 of the few reasons why CW had to leave. I think the other targets had been missed or unobtainable so cornered in desperation to just do the deal & agree to LFC asking price.

Perhaps our failure to match Liverpools asking price for Wilson puts our recruitment in a better light

Re: Biggest flops this season
Brownhill is a good player, play him in a 3 and for me he will be vital in games where we get over run in the middle, his tenacity wins us the ball back on multiple occasions, reads the game well , a poor mans Kante would maybe be a bit disrespectful but you get where I’m coming from.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 5:38 pmOutside of the clarets: probably just Arsenal in general. As for Jay, he’s not been the same player this season, and if possible I’d look to upgrade on Barnes and Jay, but if I had to pick from the two I’d go for , keep Jay and trade Barnes .

Some people really wanted the winger, Ibe, who went to Bournemouth from Liverpool for £16 million and left on a freebie last summer.
I'm sure the club had a verbal kicking over him going to Bournemouth
He's currently doing the square root of naff all in the championship.
Then the same happened with Wilson.

Just doesn’t seem to suit the way they play. Be interesting to see if he adapts next season.

Aubameyang, 22 goals for Arsenal in the PL last season and 5/1 Fav for the Golden Boot this time around.
Salford City, with their bevy of high profile backers started the season clear second favs for League 2 but finished in 8th place missing out on the play-offs.

Re: Biggest flops this season
Duffy's been shocking for Celtic, and the biggest surprise to me is how many headed goals they've conceded this season, I'd have thought that would have been one of Duffy's strengths after watching him and Dunk at Brighton regularly heading countless crosses away game after game, but he's actually been bullied in many games up here.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 11:29 amI didn’t realise just how bad Duffy had been for Celtic until I read the press this week after his return to Brighton
Another Celtic player to add to the mix Vasilios Barkas, Greek goalkeeper signed for £5m, and he's barely featured since October, with poor signings like this it's no wonder Neil Lennon was shown the door at Parkhead.

Played against Ipswich. His dad and brother came on the message board with some very critical comments about our club, how the manager had no authority and the club was being run by the senior pros.Nonayforever wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 7:02 amDidn't realise that we had him on loan back in 2011.
