Our last Football League game

Post by ClaretTony » Fri May 07, 2021 12:05 pm

Hadn't realised, but just seen, that it was five years ago today that we won 3-0 at Charlton to clinch the title and move into the Premier League, a Charlton team who had a Pope in goal and JBG in the team.

Great day out - 23, 23 undefeated

Cracking weekend. Friday night saw James at Kentish Town forum and got crowd surfed by Tim Booth. Another memorable gig from one of the best live bands out there. Saturday into Borough Market for a bacon roll and then meet up with a few mates at the tiny pub at the back of the market for a few pre match liveners. Onto The Valley and spoke outside with a number of Charlton fans and managed to smuggle in the flyer that security were removing from people. A 3-0 victory to secure the title, which led to me chasing my then 10 year old son half way across the pitch as he was straight on the pitch at the final whistle. Joined the Charlton fans for their anti owner protest, which bizarrely included a sofa on the pitch that ended up in pieces, Finally back into the away end to salute the squad, gaffer and Barry Kilby as they came over with their hastily acquired inflatable trophy.

Sampled a few more celebratory ales in Central London before a train home. Then in the evening on to the Steam Fair in our village for an evening in the beer tent and live music whilst the kids enjoyed the fairground rides. One of the best weekends i have had in my life.

23 23 undefeated, playing football the Sean Dyche way

We went in a pub on the Friday and bumped into a familiar looking bloke with a ginger goatee

There are as many in our squad now in Charlton's starting line up as there are in ours. We only have Ben mee and Lowton left.
