Re: Dwight to Villa?
The £15 million price figure is a clickbait technique.
They quote a figure far too low/high to make people get a reaction and up go those oh-so-important clicks.

I’m assuming it’s £15m and Jack Grealish for Dwight?
If so, that’s a fair offer.

How much is he worth? £25M would surely tempt us.

He’s 21 and only going to get better. Most 21 year olds don’t even play at that level, let alone have “1 good game in 5”, which I wouldn’t necessarily agree with anyway.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 3:50 pmI’d say you are about right with that figure. Don’t think we’ll get much more for a guy who only has around 1 good game in 5.
He’s worth far more than £25m.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Two factors to consider -
How much would it cost us to replace with a player of equal quality? Min 20 mil I would imagine.
How much does his age and potential for improvement add onto this? I’d say another 15-25 mil. East to forget this lad doesn’t even turn 22 until November.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
He makes too many mistakes for me to be worth more than that. I’ve lost count the amount of goals/ dangerous chances he’s presented the opposition from his errors - be it being dispossessed, poor pass, not tracking his man back etc.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
I think anywhere between 30-40m we would consider. It would be bad business, considering the length of his contact, to sell him for anything below 30m.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Another thing to consider is that after a relatively average season you'd like to think that he's nowhere near the top of his potential valuation. A good season next time round would see that figure rise.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
I've also lost count with the amount of times he has beaten men, puts decent balls across and looks to be the only creative force on the team.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 3:55 pmHe makes too many mistakes for me to be worth more than that. Maybe you should look at his positives?
Grealish often gives the ball away and doesn't chase back. How much is he worth?

We paid 10.5 million for Jeff Hendrick and he’s dreadful. Using that as a yard stick Dwight is worth at least 50 million

Different positions I know, but when you’re taking 35m plus for Sander Berge, who is two years older than Dwight, I’d be looking for similar.
Good player that Berge is, I don’t see him having significantly more potential than Dwight, certainly not enough to warrant a massive difference in valuations.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
He also suffers due to a relative lack of quality around him and being expected to play as a second full back at times. Put him in a better footballing side and let him concentrate on his strengths and I think he's good enough to play for one of the top 6.

I wonder how highly Wood rates Dwight?
Almost 50% of his goals have resulted from Dwight assists.

Why anyone would give any credence to rumours from a source that does their Twitter graphics in MS Paint is beyond me.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
In the current climate and the way clubs have previously increased the asking price of players, added to that the numerous discussion that Dwight attracts when on t.v. together with his involvement with England U21s I honestly believe the starting price should be £30m/£35m.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
Crazy low valuations of Dwight.
His numbers are up there with pretty much anybody in Europe for his age.

I would be surprised if you could buy a premier league regular, which the the club wants to keep for £25m.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
English.
Regular in the first team in the PL.
One of the few players to regularly have TAA at Liverpool on toast.
Scores and creates.
21 yrs old.
I'm pretty sure he's also trained with the senior England squad once or twice, so a call up may not be far away.
Contracted until 2024 with the option of a further year, this is the biggest consideration when it comes to a valuation.
We don't need to sell and he's not made any noises about leaving.
Jude Bellingham was sold for an initial fee of £25 million and I don't think he'd even signed a full professional contract at Birmingham, yet people value McNeil at a lower price

Re: Dwight to Villa?
There's bound go be interest in McNeil...probably in the £30m ballpark.
We'll know the reality of our financial position by the start of next season.
If Pope, McNeil, Taylor and Wood remain, and Tarkowskis's replacement is of similar quality then all will be well.

You’ve got to remember that it’s also how much the player is worth to the club...given he’s the only fit winger most of the time, he’s 21 and he’s played 100+ times in the premier league at that age, in a battling team which doesn’t play to his strengths ....he’s worth an absolute fortune to us

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Yeah low end i'd imagine he's worth £17-20M, especially after an average season. He was probably worth £30-35M after last season.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
Bellingham was like 17 year old with a way higher potential skill ceiling than Dwight, when those two retire it wont be much of a comparison between the careers they've had.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 5:18 pmEnglish.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Bellingham had played 40 games in a poor Championship side though. Dwight has played 92 times in the Premier League. I’d say you’re looking at £35-40m for Dwight.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Look at Toney as an example.
He is 25 and has only played 1 season at championship level (appreciate in a different position) and it is rumoured Brentford are looking around 30-35m for him.
Dwight has played his whole career at premier league level. Without the restraints of Burnley’s set up just imagine what he could do.
£40m player is the minimum we should be accepting for our best player.

Absolutely
How many other player of similar age, have played the same amount of games consistiently in the premier league in the last 2 -4 years? Many drift in and out of the team; not McNiel.
In addition to that, the amount of chances he creates appears to be increasing, in a team that doesn't create much...

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Very simply, he has to be worth more than any other player in our team, based on age, position, statistics and how much ex players rave about him on commentary. He is a player who can make a difference.
Bearing in mind a turnover of £140m per year more or less, I would say Dwight is worth about £50m. The cost / benefit for the Clarets would be around that figure. Sell him, the odds we go down are massively increased. Pope is similar.
I doubt the club would get that money so thus don’t think we should sell.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Everyone was gobsmacked that Gylfi Sigurdsson cost Everton £50M, Swansea got relegated shortly after selling him, turns out he was worth way more than £50M to Swansea.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
This.
We shouldn’t sell any of our players if ALK are planning to take the club forward. The lack of investment by the previous board completely prevents it, unless Alan wants to see us performing in some “artsy movies” sooner rather than later.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
We certainly can ask top dollar for Dwight if and when suitors come knocking, I'd agree with those who're citing £30-35m, he's tied to a long term deal, he's English which always bumps the value up rightly or wrongly, and he's a player that will probably only improve, also in my view any deal should have a sell on clause inserted, if he was to go to Villa for instance, and he impressed for a couple of seasons, then the really big boys will be interested, and he might move on for say £50-60m, so 15-20% of any such fee would be a tidy sum for BFC should this actually transpire.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Dwight is worth 20million cash with substantial add ons imho.
He’s 21, he’s at a crossroads in his career, he could be an Andros Townsend type, a Walcott type, or he could become a top player for a top six side.
No one is paying over the odds for potential. Put Dwight in an Everton team, is he stand out?
He, like Tarks, is great in our system. Could he adapt to a new more expansive system, who knows?

I would argue that McNeil is the one player in our squad who has the natural ability to play at a higher level. If he went to Leicester/ Everton we would see his true potential.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
Townsend at 25 went for £12 million five years ago.
At 25 he’d played less Premier League games, scored less goals and had less assists than McNeil has now.
£20 million? C’mon man. Think about it.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
I don’t disagree, but that’s the risk for a purchasing club. They have to mitigate that with a lower fee and future add ons.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 9:51 amI would argue that McNeil is the one player in our squad who has the natural ability to play at a higher level. Cantwell at Norwich is another good example. Similar to Dwight in poetical and international caps, but no one was willing to take that risk.
Long term I think Dwight would be best employed as a 10 not a left winger. That also creates doubt.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
Also got serious issues saying he could be a “Walcott type”.
If he becomes that he’ll be the best player we’ve produced in about 50 years.
Walcott played over 250 games and scored more than 70 goals for Arsenal when they were good. Really good. He got nearly 50 England caps.
Walcott had had a brilliant career. Amazing that we’re suggesting Dwight would have failed if he reached his level.

Dwight a couple of levels above him at least.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
The way we play is probably holding McNeil back. Put him in a better team with more freedom and i'm confident he'd thrive. Somewhere like Leicester would be a great move for him, not that I want him to go.Claret_tinted wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 9:45 amDwight is worth 20million cash with substantial add ons imho.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
We are holding McNeil back? What a load of tosh. We have given him the opportunity to thrive to the extent that’s he played about 100 times at the highest level by the age of 21. Yet he’s still got plenty of room for improvement. McNeil himself recognises this.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Eze is a better benchmark, fellow England u21 player, and he went from QPR to Palace for about £15m, that could rise to £20m, and he'd made about a 100 appearances at Championship level, Dwight has nearly 100 appearances at PL level, and has been a regular for 3 seasons now, so surely he's got to be worth more than £20m. especially due to his long contract.
Re: Dwight to Villa?
I’m not sure Eze is a particularly good comparison given he moved from the Championship.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 10:47 amEze is a better benchmark, fellow England u21 player, and he went from QPR to Palace for about £15m, that could rise to £20m, and he'd made about a 100 appearances at Championship level, Dwight has nearly 100 appearances at PL level, and has been a regular for 3 seasons now, so surely he's got to be worth more than £20m. especially due to his long contract.

Well that's precisely my point, he moved from the Championship, and yet still went for around £20m, and yet people think we'll only net £20m for Dwight who's been a PL mainstay for 3 seasons, and shown he can have an impact at this level when deployed correctly, talk about undervaluing our own players.

Re: Dwight to Villa?
Transfer fees have all been lowered due to COVID. I think 25m up front would be reasonable with a lot of add ons.
The only thing going against him is that wingers with blistering pace are more fashionable. Dwight is more like a Beckham - gets a yard of pace and puts in a cracking ball.
You'd also have to imagine he'd want to go to a bigger club if the opportunity came. Just hope he ends up going somewhere that will actually play him
