ARTICLE: Ward left looking for a new club again
Ipswich have stopped playing him because of a clause in his contract so they can release him

A shame for Ward. He was excellent for us.
I’ve not seen many players decline so quickly though.

He's 36 in August, wouldn't be surprised if he called it a day.

He got that injury early in 2018/19. I recall the Burton game when he was dreadful but he immediately went in for surgery. When he was fit again he found Taylor established in the team. What looked an underwhelming signing at the time proved to be an excellent signing.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 12:28 pmA shame for Ward. He was excellent for us.

One of the best fullbacks in many years, was Ward.
Whatever he decides to do, I wish him luck.

Yes he was really good for us. Goal at Chelsea!!!! But I think a particular injury and of course age caught up with him.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 12:28 pmA shame for Ward. He was excellent for us.

Re: ARTICLE: Ward left looking for a new club again
One of my all time favourite clarets.
That Chelsea game was brilliant. Not to mention the run and goal.
He was always at least a seven out of ten.
One performance that really sticks out though was Leicester away in centre midfield. What an effort.
Top pro.

Best left back I’ve seen at the club.
He was fantastic in his prime, particularly the year we qualified for Europe.

Tough to choose between Ward and Taylor, I'd probably just give the edge to Taylor but certainly not much in it. Ward was brilliant for usagreenwood wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 10:49 pmBest left back I’ve seen at the club.

Re: ARTICLE: Ward left looking for a new club again
Taylor has time to improve but Ward was by far the better player imo.
You couldn't imagine Taylor scoring like Ward did at Stamford Bridge could you.
Knowing when to get forward and when to defend is arguably the most important trait for a modern fullback. Ward was very good at it. Taylor gets caught a lot but his legs can get him out of trouble more.
Ward spent years for us being irreplaceable, yet at times Pieters has looked better than Taylor this season.

Re: ARTICLE: Ward left looking for a new club again
Ward achieved more than Taylor to date
Wardy always knew where to be as defender and an enterprising attacker and, so far, more consistent than Taylor. Taylor is still improving tho
I will always remember him for his role at corners. He kept the keeper on his line longer than any of the current squad and was agile and alert enough to score off the second ball on more than one occasion

Makes you wonder if that'd be allowed now. If you touch the keeper now ref gives at foul. That tactic alone bought us many goals.Down_Rover wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 8:42 amI will always remember him for his role at corners. Was he that underwhelming as a signing, at the time?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 1:19 pmHe got that injury early in 2018/19. He’d had a decent spell with Wolves in the Premier League. I think it may have soured for him there after they dropped to the Championship, but he did well for Brighton on loan.
Didn’t we get him at the 11th hour when it looked like he’d be signing permanently for them, to their frustration?

Pity you never saw Keith Newton. Class personified.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 10:49 pmBest left back I’ve seen at the club.

Re: ARTICLE: Ward left looking for a new club again
Oh hell yeah. TBH Briscoe & Thompson were decent enough at their level.
Thompson was our LB when I first starting going regularly so although I'm obviously joking I have a genuine soft spot for him. Same goes for Monnington and several other duff lower league players we had.
If I ever meet David Eyres, John Pender, Marlon Beresford or John Deary I'll be starstruck. Those guys were my heroes.

Re: ARTICLE: Ward left looking for a new club again
Thompson was a lovely character, a really likeable guy, but he was no where need a decent full back as I remember him.
I was absolutely delighted when we signed Ward, I thought he had long been Wolves stand out player.
I’d have thought a club like Accy should be falling over themselves to get him in working alongside them next season.

Good player for us was Wardy, but I prefer Charlie Taylor.
