Talking pump yet again. Why do one of the 2 teams at Pride Park “deserve” to stay up? Is this the same rationale that the 12 x super league clubs thought gave them the right to automatically be in that folly?Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 2:21 pmWhy do people want Derby to go down. Where did I say a team "deserved" to stay up? Also when you use the quote symbols its better to actually quote a word the other person said than one you made upbox_of_frogs wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 2:24 pmTalking pump yet again. In 1987 pretty much the whole of English football wanted Burnley to survive and thought the best result for football was that a club with a history such as ours should remain in the football league.box_of_frogs wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 2:37 pmWith your nonsense about the best result for football is one of those 2 to stay up. Nobody thought we "deserved" to stay up as that is a completely different thing altogether. I think your English teacher was "pump" at their job

P.S. shame about Wednesday going down. Football, eh? For every winner there’s got to be a loser! But I guess that’s why we love it.
Re: Championship Relegation
I wanted to see Rotherham and Wednesday stay up along with Derby being relegated, as we all know you don't always get what you wish for.

On the subject of todays football what a result for Leeds. If we make the top 10 this season Bielsa has to be on the short list for manager of the year

Rooney is going according to a Fanzine contributor I know. Which will be a pity really as he could have taken them down next season with Blackburn!!!

I must have missed the posts of people biting. I actually like the idea of there being posters on the board that follow other teams. It's surely a positive for healthy debates! I'll take the blame if I post something deliberately inflammatory (which I sometimes do) but if people are so precious they get upset about a comment like I made today then the problem isn't me fishing but their inability to cope with a different viewpoint.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 3:34 pmYou carry on fishing, it's amusing watching others get worked up over it even though its clear as day what you're doing most of the time.
There's not a lot I can do where one group of people have a go at me for being a Leeds fan and the other group have a go at me about pretending to be a Leeds fan. I just wish they could all get together and make their minds up and let me know cos its very confusing for me

I do worry whether i'll prove or disprove the popular opinion of me on here as being a bit of a knobhead

Re: Championship Relegation
Always had a soft spot for Rotherham going back to trips to Millmoor in the 80s. Never a happy hunting ground but close to the station and through a scrap yard meant it was an ‘authentic’ football experience. Players such as Rod Fern, Ronnie Moore, Tony Towner and (ahem) Gerry Gow. Between 82/3 and 84/5 we had three games at Millmoor where we dominated but only came away with 2 points. The last being a defeat when we had taken the lead with 10 minutes to go. The S Yorks police were out in force at Sheffield station that day and on our way back decided to lay into Clarets fans for having the temerity to try to catch trains in the direction they wanted to go. You could tell that that lot had scented blood during the miners’ strike and had a taste for it.

And a word about the Sterling non penalty. Yes it was probably a peno, but I have some sympathy for the referees. Certain forwards are so skilful at engineering contact in the box to make it look like a trip, it’s hardly surprising that the eyebrow of suspicion is so often raised. I have absolutely no sympathy.

Re: Championship Relegation
Having seen the replays on MOTD I can see why Pep was adamant it was a penalty, however perhaps on this occasion Sterling's reputation preceded him, and put doubt in the refs mind, but how the VAR official couldn't see there was contact by the defender baffles me, mind you what's the point of giving City a pen they rarely score them do they.chekhov wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 7:37 pmAnd a word about the Sterling non penalty. It was a stonewall penalty. Understandable in some ways that it wasn’t given by the ref but baffling that the VAR didn’t overturn, or at least suggest the ref takes a look on the monitor.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 10:05 amHaving seen the replays on MOTD I can see why Pep was adamant it was a penalty, however perhaps on this occasion Sterling's reputation preceded him, and put doubt in the refs mind, but how the VAR official couldn't see there was contact by the defender baffles me, mind you what's the point of giving City a pen they rarely score them do they.

And the decisions balanced themselves out yesterday. The first one was definitely very “soft” i.e. it wasn’t a penalty, but I bet Pep didn’t want to consider that thought.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 10:05 amHaving seen the replays on MOTD I can see why Pep was adamant it was a penalty, however perhaps on this occasion Sterling's reputation preceded him, and put doubt in the refs mind, but how the VAR official couldn't see there was contact by the defender baffles me, mind you what's the point of giving City a pen they rarely score them do they.

Re: Championship Relegation
Yes I must admit on first viewing I wouldn't have given it, but once I saw the other angle it was an obvious decision, so why VAR choose not to intervene is confusing to say the least, this is precisely the times they should help out the officials.
And yet that blatant penalty wasn't given, well on the same day Harry Kane had a goal disallowed for offside when at worst he looked level, this is what is driving fans about the game, they can't see the clear and obvious errors, yet they will intervene when a player has a fingernail offside.
