Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Based on his performance against us the other week, Nat Phillips would be an excellent signing and he’d really into the way we play. I notice that Liverpool have splashed out on another centre half as well, so he could very quickly find himself competing with far younger players for the fifth/ sixth choice centre half role there.
He could well be a Kevin Long type happy to play a handful of games, and his (speculative) wages could well be an issue, but I really think we should be trying for this lad.

Swansea have had a young CB on loan from Chelsea this season - Marc Guehi
Only 20 and also playing at U21 level for England
Had a very good season, although under performed in play off final

Are we linked with anyone who is not a centre back?
I thought the priority was RB and RW?

After giving Lowton and Bardsley new deals I'd say we aren't too concerned about right back for now.

Wouldn’t shock me if the interest in Collins is with RB in mind. From what I can understand, he’s a CB being played at RB because Stoke have too many CB’s. Would be a good way to blood him in to the Prem, anyway.
But with Lowton in great form and Bards extended, I can’t imagine it’s a priority for this window.
RW, however, is where our big money should be going!

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Priorities in my understanding of the situation:
Center Half: Especially if Dunne doesn’t sign a new contract, we will only have 3 CHs when fully fit. Mee, Tarkowski, and Long.
Right Wing: we have Johann, and I really rate him when he’s fit, but that’s the key word “when”. He’s an excellent player. Brownhill can fit in but it’s not natural. We need at minimum one RW. (We actually need a LW as well because someone needs to be able to fill that space besides Pieters if Dwight gets hurt.)
RB: One for January, but by next Summer window it will be a must fill. We have the Chesterfield Cafu and Bardsley. Not ideal but we’re ok for this year. Should start bedding a player though.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
No right back is probably an area we can put on the back burner for a season, and if it's a choice between strengthening CM & RW over getting in another RB, I'd prefer if we concentrated on CM & RW that's the 2 areas we badly need to pep up the squad in, especially given that we've now released Brady, and JBG hasn't got the best injury record has he, so unless we want another season of Brownhill being a square peg in a round hole we need to recruit in both these areas, but right wing in particular is now an urgency.

I agree with Johann when fit but the evidence is that at most he is a backup for Dwight and if Dwight leaves we need two wingers

I think we need two now, with Brady leaving. Arguably 3 when you think about JBG’s injury record!!
I’d say we need to go big on a first team RW - not a developmental player, first name on the team sheet player. Assuming Tarks stayed that’d be my #1 priority. Then another, cheaper backup.

Ryan Cooney looks a good bet to step up as understudy to Matt Lowton
He reminds me of Keiran Trippier and has great potential .A good tackler and great distribution with the added bonus of a long throw in

Cooney has looked very good at that level. He’s 21 now so needs to step up to the Championship next year to prove he's worth keeping on.

Perhaps we are linked with all these centre halves in order to push along the deal which we are actually prioritising ?

Rumours going on down here (I have a Leicester supporting family), that Leicester renewing interest in Tarkowski. They have suffered from injuries this year, which may have cost them and Evans is getting on, and becoming injury prone. Syonchu's form has also dropped

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Long throw ins are massively underrated, I think. They’re surprisingly rare, which baffles me how so many grown adults can’t throw a ball further - its got to be a technique you can practice/learn.
Defences don’t seem to know how to defend against them, gets them at sixes and sevens every time.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I thought the two Liverpool central defenders looked allover the place against us, every long ball seemed to cause mass panic and got us in behind.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 9:34 amBased on his performance against us the other week, Nat Phillips would be an excellent signing and he’d really into the way we play. I tend to agree with this and because of this it may work in our favour. Neither look like "Liverpool" players and may have to look elsewhere for regular game time and development. But there is something there that Sean and the team can work on and this could be a success.

Not entirely sure, the line in the paper is he can’t comment on his future following interest from Burnley. Some places saying he wants future resolved before the Euros.

Good business on the Belgium clubs behalf.

Deal was apparently a 'loan to buy' so they want to honour it and then sell him for a profit according to various sites.

Totally agree with this, although if Tarks stayed I would argue that RW is the greater priority.WiscoClaret wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 3:18 pmPriorities in my understanding of the situation:

For next year I think a LCB is arguably a greater priority than RCB since we have Long - presumably that is Worrall. At RCB presumably that's why we're interested in Collins as a long term replacement for Tarks. But if Tarks is staying until next season, I'd argue that could wait until January.
Collins could also cover RB, but I'm naively hoping that Trippier might come back by then.
One player not yet linked is Robin Quaison. He's on a free and got 6 goals, 3 assists in the Bundesliga this year. I understand CT had his story written last year on this lad, so maybe that one could come back given his status? He can play second striker or LW, so that would be decent cover for Dwight.
As stated above though, I'd blow the budget on RW and bring in some real quality to balance the team on the right.

Wes Morgan has also retired so Leicester would have a central defender spot available should they want to pursue Tarks again, of course they won't be offering anywhere close to the 35-40m they allegedly were prepared to cough up for him last summer.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 10:06 amRumours going on down here (I have a Leicester supporting family), that Leicester renewing interest in Tarkowski. I've no idea....he's getting good reviews from the media in Belgium though if you search him a bit.
I get what you're saying but maybe he is potentially the long term replacement for Long?
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
That was the problem, they wasn't willing to caugh up 35-40m last summer.
The highest bid came from West ham and that was a fee rising to 35m with add ons. I'm sure if any team had offered 40m he would have been off.
I think we will do well to get 25m for him this summer, although that's still not a fee to be sniffed at.
Hopefully with a more savvy approach we may be able to get a player or 2 plus cash deal as to reduce the figure we pass onto Brentford.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
He showed plenty of promise at Dundee, hence why Celtic snapped him up, but it's fair to see his time at Parkhead hasn't been a happy period.
It does sound like he's fared better in Belgium, but what sort of standard their league is I honestly don't know.
And I also didn't realise Hendry was now 26, I thought he was still a youngster, so I'd give this one a miss I think as he's shown little in his career that suggests he's capable of playing in the PL.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
While I think Lundstrum would be an improvement on Stephens and adds better depth to the squad I'm not overly keen on him. He's not really better than what we have. Right now we need to be looking at specialists in the centre of the park- someone with either the ability to break up play or someone able to beat a man and create space. We already have two or three good all rounders in the centre. Signing Lundstrum on a free will either see us not looking to buy a centre midfielder or will see us push Brownhill out wide to plug the gap. I don't want to see either of those things happening.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Lundstram can play centre or wide right and is a good squad addition - undoubtedly would help us by providing depth and a genuine alternative to Brownhill in either position. I would be more than happy with him signing as long as it's in addition to, and not instead of, a full blown attacking winger (our biggest signing of the summer bar any possibly needed Tarkowksi replacement).

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Williams wasn't great and you could tell they hadn't gelled but Phillips had Wood in his pocket all game and had a very good game.
Lundstrum is another body who's probably good enough so exactly the type of signing we need. We don't have the money to get enough players in that are better than the ones we have. We're short of too many players.
I'd be very surprised we sign a single player who is standout better than our starting 11. That might disappoint some fans but it's important we have injuries covered and someone can step in as adequate cover in different positions.
