Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
There is no way a club of our size and budget, would pay the money they did for Collins for him to be 4th choice, which is what he'd be should we sign Phillips, and keep tarks.

We need more wide players not more central defenders, I'm hoping we don't splash money on that donkey Phillips. RW and ST next please

From what I saw last season his distribution is a notch above what we have currently at the back - granted, I didn't watch him every game he played. We deffo need more creativity I would agree but part of that can start from the back

Soon as Van Dijk and Gomes got injured Liverpool were comedy at the back imoVegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:17 pmFrom what I saw last season his distribution is a notch above what we have currently at the back - granted, I didn't watch him every game he played. Twitter seems to think Phillips would be a loan with view to purchase.

I just hope we are actually going to sign a winger and not rely on Brownhill playing there.

No chance he comes here on loan just to sit on the bench.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:42 pmTwitter seems to think Phillips would be a loan with view to purchase.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Phillips needs to bulk up , looks young physically for 24 but undoubtedly has talent
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I like the look of Phillips, but his signing would be a bizarre one given we're told that Tarkowski is staying for his final year.
I've noticed that Nixon has said a few times though that we're after two centre halves. Things not really adding up at the moment (or should that be adding up to too much).

I know. But you wouldn't come here to sit on the bench when you can do that at Liverpool.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I’d agree, but we are two centre backs down (Dunne and Gibson) and have another that is a certainty to leave on top of that, be that now or next summer.
It’s been clear since day one at Burnley that Dyche is a big believer in solidity at the back being his immediate priority. I am assuming he is wanting the next 2-3 years in that position demystified and sorted out regardless of Tarky leaving before the club move on to midfielders/wingers. If Phillips signs with an understanding that he is competing for a place with Tarkowski, and that when he eventually leaves that shirt is his and we will sign him permanently if he performs, maybe that will be good enough for him. He’s currently set to be 5th choice at Liverpool and I wouldn’t be shocked at all if a move to Burnley resulted in a pay rise for him to be honest (presumably still on modest wages there).
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I agree. If Tarks stays another year, and recent reports suggest that's most likely, it would be strange spending £25m - £30m on two.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 7:04 pmI like the look of Phillips, but his signing would be a bizarre one given we're told that Tarkowski is staying for his final year.

Bulk up ?? He's 6lb / almost half a stone heavier that Tarkowski and 2 inch taller and 26lb / almost 2 stone heavier than Ben Mee and 3 inch taller, if he needs to bulk up it doesn't say much for Ben Mee

Multiple places give Philips wage as £64,615 a week. I obviously can't validate itjedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 7:08 pmI’d agree, but we are two centre backs down (Dunne and Gibson) and have another that is a certainty to leave on top of that, be that now or next summer.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Seen all the posts on here about Collins playing RB. Can he play as a RB, that is up and down his line and getting crosses in, or is he just a big guy that can tackle and win headers from dead balls?
No agenda I know sod all about the guy.

The whole point of a loan is for the player to get regular football. I don't think Liverpool or Phillips would be impressed if he came to Burnley on loan and sat on the bench all year. He'd probably see more action staying at Liverpool.

For that reason alone some loan agreements are conditional where it wouldn’t be optional, he would have to play a predetermined set number of games if he didn’t they could recall him for breaching the agreement.

As I understand, he’s a CB who has been played at RB for Stoke, or right side of a three, as they have an abundance of CB’s.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:33 pmSeen all the posts on here about Collins playing RB. Have not seen anything to suggest he’ll be marauding up & down whipping crosses in, but he certainly has a good long range pass (which a pacy RW may benefit from if we ever sign one) and Dyche has form for starting central defenders as full backs, so the assumption is he’d start there.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Not always. I think the parent club only cares about play time if they intend to use them in the future themselves or think they can sell with increased value. A lot of clubs will loan out to reduce their wages and also profit with loan fees and fees per appearance (or for non appearance). Not to mention players tend to want to play, and usually they are listed for loan because the manager sees no use for them in the first team.
Part of what's wrong with the modern game is clubs now using players as profit makers. Man City were a great example buying Mooy. Just a money making exercise and not only for youth development. Besides, we are talking about a 24 year old here, I very much doubt Liverpool think he'll ever get good enough to be in their team consistently if he hasn't already stood out.

On the topic of Collins, I suspect he will come in at RB to begin with, think he has played most of his game there to date.

Folk keep posting about the players we need to sign but if you look at the list CT has put up including Tarks excluding Collins (only 20) we have a squad of 23 players over 21 years of age including Glennon, Benson and Mumbongo. So unless Tarks leaves and/or the likes of the three young lads go out on loan we don't have room for the numbers some on here are wanting us to sign
