I guess we'll just have to disagree then.
And Albrighton made 20 starts and 11 sub appearances, so not quite as regular as it looks.
How many seasons would his contract be for?
20 starts and 11 sub appearances is a significant and regular contribution.
You’d think a player like Albrighton would need to be offered a three or four year contract.

I have to agree with Claret Tony-he would be a great signing. Even 20 appearances and 11 sub appearances in a side that won the FA Cup, and who were regularly in the top 4 or 5 sides is a great achievement, particularly when you look at their choice of wide wing players. How may games did Brady & JBG start last year ????

I remember us being linked with Albrighton in the summer of 2014 but he went to Leicester, probably because they were able to offer way more money than us at the time. I think he'd be a good addition 7 years on, his quality has been obvious.
Under Rodgers, he seems to have been converted into more of a wing-back though from what I can gather.

Albrighton is exactly the type of player who fits our team ethic and style. He's a no frills, reliable player who works tirelessly and has great deliveries. He's experienced and while not being a bums off seats type winger. Is as steady as they come at this level. Would be a welcome addition.

I'm absolutely certain we disagree. I'd be delighted if we could land Albrighton.

After the last few windows any strengthening of the starting eleven would be very welcome and this would be strengthening without a doubt.

Presumably Dyche wants suitable and specialist cover for both RCB and LCB. Have to say, I’ll feel as though we go in to the season much stronger if we have good cover in both positions.

Because we are injuries and suspensions short of a disaster even if JT stays and I certainly hope he does plus neither of our regulars will play forever .. bit of forward planning

That could be a good signing for them. This is the type of loans we should be looking at: those with non-compulsory options to buy.
Do like the idea of this Albrighton link but really hope we’re also looking at a young, fast, technical winger too.

Albrighton would be a monster signing for Burnley. The balance and potential chances he could create for Wood - would be immense.

Didn't Barca only buy him last year for €31 million?
Now he's out on loan to Wolves with an option to buy?
Will be interesting to see what Wolves pay for him if it's made permanent.

From what I can tell, Barca have effectively let him go out on loan with an option to buy at the same price they did. Barca look like they’re in some deep **** financially.

Albrighton would be a solid, if uninspiring signing. If he's cheap he makes a lot of sense.
I've plugged him a few times but if we want a cheap signing that is already good, has potential to get better and provide a return on investment then Ryan Gauld on a free transfer would be a perfect fit. He can also play all across the front/midfield.

There's a suggetion on FilbertWay that Albrighton is surplus to requirement because they're switching to 3 at the back with wingbacks and Albrighton doesn't fit in with that as he's a winger not a defender.
If they're still in for Tarkowski he could be part of the deal which would suit Burnley as they can reduce the money that they have to give to Brentford.

If we sign him he will have to change is name to Alburnley,we can't have someone playing for us with that club in their name

He would and I have previously thought that he would suit how we play. Just a note of caution though, Leicester are one of the clubs who have been sniffing around McNeil and could reawaken their interest in him.

Hardly. He’s been playing at wing back quite a lot for them.

Dunne likely to go which would leave us with Tarky, Mee, Collins & Long. One of those four is considered a third choice and two of them are out of contract in a year. Nothing wrong with forward planning, that’s what’s been lacking recently.

that is definitely not the way it works - each transfer has a value and I am pretty sure this has been outlined in detail on this thread previously

As one of the 3 lowest scoring teams in the PL last season (the other 2 were relegated) there is obviously a need to strengthen elsewhere.
Probably comes down to finances, as midfielders and strikers with an eye for goal will command a premium price tag and there will be stiff competition for their signatures from other clubs.

It’s a transfer thread? I thought that was literally the point, to discuss potential summer transfers.
Don’t you think Dan James would be a good addition?

Only surprising thing about us moving for Albrighton is that we haven’t to my knowledge done it already. I’m not complaining either, it just makes so much sense.
I hope we pull this off. McNeil and Albrighton supplying a target man would be unbelievable.

I read somewhere today that we'd tried to sign him from Villa in 2014 but Leicester beat us to him. Would have been a terrific signing then and would now in my view.

My only issue would be the lack of resale value. Of course though, not every signing can be in that category.
