Chris Wood could also have an interrupted season this time around with the World Cup Qualifying matches for NZ now being scheduled for early 2022 and a packed schedule of matches being squeezed into a short space of time. Before that of course will be his involvement in the Olympics and all of the travelling and quarantine that both events will contain.
As a main source of goals in a team amongst the divisions lowest scorers we could do with some incomings at the top end of the pitch.

In the current financial climate I'd say £5m is the absolute maximum we should be paying for him - there's no way we're getting a fee for him down the line and his wages, as an experienced EPL player, will be up there with our highest earners. For context Jack Harrison only just cost Leeds for £11.5m (possibly rising to £15m).burnley007 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 9:59 amHow much would Albrighton actually cost? £5m? £10m?
There's literally no point discussing whether he'd be worth it until we know how much it's costing! If he's £5m it's an absolutely brilliant signing...£10m+ and it's getting a bit ropey....
Also, what wages will he be on?
Proven player, sounds like a good lad, would fit right in at Barnfield, what's not to like?
I think he'd be a good signing, would certainly get good game time and his delivery from the right would be akin to McNeil's on the left. He's not a player that relies on pace so I'd imagine he's got 2 or 3 seasons left in him at this level. Also, Leicester fans really want to keep him so that's a good sign.
Like I've said before from a financial perspective I'd love to see us sign Ryan Gauld instead (or as well) as he'd be lower wages, free and he's only 25. Then we save money to buy another player. But I admit he's more of a risk without EPL experience and better qualified people than myself must have decided he's not good enough for our level.
Apparently we're in for a more ambitious winger too, if that winger is younger with more potential/resale value then signing Albrighton for under £5m would be very good business.

KRAFTH FREE TO LEAVE
Newcastle United are willing to part company with defender Emil Krafth this summer, reports The Sun.
The 26-year-old Sweden international could be moved on to make way for one of 44 transfer targets shortlisted by Magpies boss Steve Bruce.
Now that is a proper recruitment team at work
There's going to be plenty of miles covered scouting those 44 guys

But the trend as gone south, maybe a 1 off we’ll see where we finish next season & then we’ll know but last season wasn’t an improvement on previous seasons that’s the point I was making, you could argue the buffer was down to Fulham being so poor, are we hoping Norwich etc will be as bad next time around which isn’t guaranteed.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 11:40 amYou could have kept it shorter and put where we finished 11 points above the relegation zone

We finished a good amount of points clear but we ended the season losing 7 of the last 9. Whilst relying on wood to score a third of our goals. This is not going to get any easier for Dyche with the oldest squad in the league. I don’t think anyone is saying we have not done really well. It’s just that this squad is not like previous seasons.
Let’s hope Dyche has a good summer and we start the season well.

39 points wouldn't have been relegated in any of the 6 seasons Burnley have been in the premier league, and would have been at least a 4 point buffer, often 5, occasionally 6. This year it was 11 and more comfortable.

As for the three relegated sides. It doesn't matter if they were poor. We got more points than required to stop up. Even if they'd have got a similar number of points to Bournemouth we were safe.
For all the talk of struggling, we've never had a poor season compared to the likes of Brighton, Villa etc.

We definitely struggled in both them seasons. I am simply highlighting that our squad was in a better position then. The core of our team was younger we were able to build around them with older players that could do a job for a short time.Spijed wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 12:48 pmSo the first season, where we only won away at Crystal Palace wasn't as much of a struggle, nor the season whilst playing in Europe?

We are now in a position where the core of our squad is approaching the end of there premier league careers.
I do not think we are in a position where we continue to compliment our existing core with old players. It will get to a point (possibly in 12 months) where we will have to change large swaithes of the squad (6-7-8 people in one window).
Like I said I would take Albrighton but only if we have a young player coming in as well

Doesnt matter who starts a thread, or even what it's about, it's usually a slight insult to start ( that's the bait ) then off it goes.
could start an argument in a phone box.
Enough people have mentioned it, most ave managed to ignore them, but some still get lured in, and it ends up like this.
I popped on thinking wow 50 posts, we might have some news, what a waste of time wading through all the bickering.

It’s definitely a problem on the horizon for sure, if you offset age wise so some of an equilibrium is established you’ll maintain the average age, in fairness signing NC in terms of age could suggest that the future policy is slowly evolving from the old regime & the realisation of signing younger players & the overall value attached is starting to dawn.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 12:56 pmWe definitely struggled in both them seasons. What part of the Nathan Collins signing do you not understand?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 7:05 amI don’t think anyone is suggesting that at all.
I think they are pretty fair comments about Albrighton. He’s a good player but he’s approaching the end of his career. As are many others in our squad. Some fans mocked palaces rebuild this summer. We are going to have the oldest squad in the prem this season with over 7-8 of them out of contract next year.
For me Albrighton is a cheap short term fix that our previous owners got slaughtered for.
I would take Albrighton but I think we need to start getting in starting eleven young players.

I have already said I would have Albrighton but I just think at some point we need to address the age of our squad. Signings like Albrighton for me just push the issue 12 months down the line.

Why don’t we stay calm and see who else we bring in alongside Albrighton (if indeed that one happens), maybe just maybe we will sign another who is much younger and can be bedded in at a better rate whilst Albrighton(possibly), Dwight and JBG take centre stage at the beginning of the season?
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I was keen for us to sign Young but I’d be delighted with Albrighton. Exactly the sort of player that could slot straight into the side. Hope we can get it over the line.
I’d like to see another winger and centre half in Tarky leaves.

I think people loose sight of the promising youth we already have. I think Richardson has played right wing from recent viewings although was supposed to be out and out forward.
