Would be a strange signing based on him currently being out injured until September/October.

He can also play in midfield, and Tarks will only have another 12 months here at which point we will be looking for another RCB as realisticly we will only have Collins and Long (who will need to be upgraded).

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I can only see us signing another CH if Tarks moves on, otherwise we're in severe danger of becoming overloaded in that position, Collins, Kev Long, Mee, Tarks, and either Davies or Worrall, even if we deployed 3 at the back we'll have an unhappy camper amongst those guys, Kev Long might be prepared to earn his corn as a squad member, but I can't see any of the others wanting to get splinters in their pants they'll be expecting to play every week.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Kevin Long has been a squad member for years anyway. If an opportunity to sign a player of Ajers quality for 13m comes along, you take it and tick off a box we will be looking to tick off in 12 months time.

A 1st team signing in ANY position would bloody help atm.
We haven't progressed the starting XI at all so far, this is starting to get very concerning

That's not happened for about 3 seasons now, possibly 5 or 6 windows since we last purchased a player to go straight into the starting 11, but we all no the reasons for thst now.burnley007 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 11:12 amA 1st team signing in ANY position would bloody help atm.

Yes I 100% agree. Season starts in less than a month and we still have strengthened the team that finished 17th.burnley007 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 11:12 amA 1st team signing in ANY position would bloody help atm.

True, but I would not be hopeful on the current starting eleven maintaining that this season. Especially with Wood missing for potentially 2 months.

Could not agree more-I looked at both teams we put out against Morecambe and Salford and we looked exposed. This at a time when the only two key missing players were Wood and Pope (for whom we have cover)burnley007 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 11:12 amA 1st team signing in ANY position would bloody help atm.

The early optimism expressed by some that new signings would be all on board to take part in pre-season evaporated in the summer heat.

Gaziantep of the Turkish league supposedly interested in Vydra and Moussett of Sheffield United also.

I saw that and would be quite sad to see Vyds go. It would seem unlikely that he’d fancy that kind of move abroad since he has spent so much time in England BUT if the right fee came in I think he might go. I think “young Rico” (Lewis Richardson) is fancied by the staff and Dyche. If we got a fee for Vyds, could replace with another academy grad, and could spend that little bit of a fee to get a winger over the line I wouldn’t be upset.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:57 pmGaziantep of the Turkish league supposedly interested in Vydra and Moussett of Sheffield United also.
On another note:
I believe Max Thompson is being groomed to be a backup RW for us. His natural role has been striker but he has been asked to play RW over the last season and is quite talented there. I noticed an article where he signed an “improved contract” with the club and have noticed that he stayed behind with the first team to work with them...so I’m guessing wether we get a winger in or not he’s going to be in and around it. He has an eye for picking out a pass and a goal or two. Wouldn’t be mad about him making the step up. Dyche clearly rates him by blooding him 2 seasons ago!
Thoughts?
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If Vydra were to move, he'd need replacing. We are already short on quality in that area of the pitch - highlighted when Wood isn't available. I'd argue even with Vydra we need improving at the top end of the pitch. The winger, much needed, can't be at the cost of a position elsewhere on the pitch. The owners have to find a way to strengthen the starting line up without weakening another area.WiscoClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 2:41 pmI saw that and would be quite sad to see Vyds go. Yes, I believe Lewis Richardson might fill that void. Apparently he has the guile and speed like that of Vyds.... a similar player and regularly capped by the England youth setup much like Dwight!NickBFC wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 2:55 pmIf Vydra were to move, he'd need replacing. Not untypical for Czech players to do a couple of years in Turkey, with its very favourable tax rates it can nicely top up the pot o goldHedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:57 pmGaziantep of the Turkish league supposedly interested in Vydra and Moussett of Sheffield United also.

I doubt we will let him go as he is so different to the other 3 strikers, and he for me was the most improved player last season (and I suspect can get better with us).Its not as if we are seeing a rush of new first team players, and suspect its easier justifying not selling than buying right now

I’d be shocked and disappointed if we sold Vydra this summer. I think after a tough start he really showed what he could offer Burnley going forward last term, is currently our second striker. I lot more to come from Vydra I suspect.

I watched all but one of the games they showed last season.
He played in most, if not all, of them.
Tidy player, reminded me of Robbie Blake.
But to qualify my statement about a comparison with Vydra, if Vydra played in an U23s game he would be the fastest player out there by some distance.

Sometimes you see a young player for the first time and you know. Richardson feels like one that will have a very good career at a decent level. Ings and McNeil were the same.

Good vision and first touch, and very skillful.
I think it would be a bit premature to expect him to step into the starting line-up in the absence of Wood and Vydra, TBH.

Nice to hear, Robbie was my favourite player for many years , if he had a bit more pace and didn’t love KFC so much he would have been one of the very best, on Richardson, is he a good finisher or more of a number 10/ supporting striker?

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I'd be concerned if we let Vydra go this summer, Wood will miss a fair chunk of the campaign, and that only leaves Ash and Jay, yes Richardson might be able to make the grade in time, but it's asking an awful lot of a young kid talented as he is too shoulder a lot of the burden to improve our goals return.
We struggled for goals last season even with Vydra in the team post-Xmas, so why we'd even consider cashing in on him baffles me, the only circumstance where he should be let go is if a decent offer comes in, say £10m or so, and if we have a replacement already lined-up to immediately slot into the 1st team.

We will have to hope that the other 3 senior forwards can fire some goals in this season more regularly then, or at least during those months

I actually think we will get a couple of wingers in before the end of the window , the sheer number of players we’ve been linked with thus far in the window suggests that we are very active indeed. The prices may seem too steep at the moment but I think some may drop in the coming weeks
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Taking in to account the big money moves starting to happen i think the domino effect will soon kick in and next week we should see more activity as a whole.

For me the need for a proper goal scorer have not been as great for a few years. We know Wood will have country duties. WE know that both Barnes and Rodriguez are prone to niggles and injuries and in terms of the PL both on the slow side. Its rare all four were available last season, and if SD was making substitutions it was predominantly in this area. You also need to see the combined PL league tally of combined goals of Barnes and Rodriguez and see that you would expect a good midfielder to surpass this total. Had it not been for Wood's goal we would be playing in the Championship. The defence has become our rock, goals gets you the points and survival.

Goals make the game interesting, but 38 nil-nils would be enough to stay up most seasons.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Nothing has been confirmed about this yet as far as I'm aware - at this stage the Oceania qualifiers looks likely to be held in the Middle East over a 15 day period in January. Because this will take it outside the normal FIFA international window, my understanding is that clubs are not obliged to release their players although Wood my ask to play for NZ like he did for the Olympics. There is a one week winter break in January as well as the FA Cup 3rd round matches so even if he does go, he may only miss a couple games, it shouldn't be anything like 2 months that some have suggested (unless there are all sorts of quarantine regulations by then that he has to go through).kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 7:49 amWorld Cup qualification matches for NZ which has been condensed into a 6 week period in Jan/Feb 2022 where each country will face a hectic schedule of matches to complete the qualification process.
