“Just can’t see them being stronger than last year myself” I can’t but they don’t necessarily need to be to avoid relegation, because the bottom 3 were so poor last season it’s another lofty assumption that this seasons bottom 3 will be far better, Norwich aside can you see Watford & Brentford being miles ahead of Fulham & West Brom?
The bottom 3 all recorded record low points totals last season, so It really shouldn't be that hard for even the newly promoted teams to perform better than Fulham, West Brom & Sheff Utd did, I can certainly see Norwich and especially Watford faring better than Fulham & West Brom yes, Brentford I'm not so sure about, their lack of signings and PL experience could count against them, see Norwich a couple of seasons ago as an example.

On Palace Eze will be a major absence for them, he was their best player at TM last season, and Zaha blows hot and cold, so they might well struggle for goals, plus there's question marks about Vieira as a PL manager, I don't think they'll go down, but they're certainly one of the teams we can hope to finish above come May.

It’s 1 of them we can’t 100% say right now what will happen because the season hasn’t started & the transfer business hasn’t concluded so at this stage it’s very embryonic, if any of the mentioned teams do strengthen substantially before the start things will change, I can see palace struggling as things stand right now but the question is will another 3 teams be any poorer including us in that mix & as you rightly say we don’t know how will vieira will get on. We could finish above all the mentioned teams whether we will is another thing.

Many posters seem to be concentrating on Palace but are we significantly stronger after just a single signing? As one of the 3 lowest scoring teams in the PL (the other 2 went down) have we bolstered our attacking options? With Chris Wood our main source of goals likely to be missing possibly 2 months of the season (who knows what the self isolation protocols and travel restrictions will be during the Winter Months) we need to be proactive in bringing in some attack minded players.

It’s a poor do isn’t it. That lad who signed isn’t going to get in the starting XI either.

Do you genuinely think we would even be remotely interested in him?
He is the polar opposite of everything about our type of signing.

People need to forget about us signing any sort of young up and coming stars on loan from one of these big clubs.
We have a tried and trusted method, we dont sway from it.

When did we sign a genuine classy, skillful creative player?
Defour possibly?

It's not the style we seem to go with, and if Pace and Co are allowing Dyche to continue as he sees fit, those sorts will be few and far between.
Dont try and fix what isnt broken.

Dyches trusted method will see us ( and has shown us) we usually do enough with a bit spare to be the the league season after season.
Another season of Waldorf and Statler running our central midfield could be, I fear, a season too far

Our first target as with a number of teams will be to ensure we retain PL status, and usually that means finishing above the newly promoted sides, and hopefully one or two others, there's normally a team that struggles unexpectedly every year, and sometimes the promoted sides can surprise folks, as Sheff Utd did a couple of seasons ago.

I don't think anybody is denying we need to strengthen, after all we finished 17th last season, so that should be a sign that we need reinforcements.

Collins is a solid capture, and certainly one that we should see the best of in the future, but we need players that can substantially improve our first XI in the here and now, as it stands if our mainstays are available we can field a strong starting XI, but an injury or two in key areas, one of the centre backs for instance, or Chris Wood being out for a while for any reason, and we look much weaker, hence the desire for at least 1 or 2 more incomings just to bolster our ranks.

Ben Davies is wanted by Sheffield United

Now having been interested in him previously, he would be an excellent addition for us in my opinion, and great cover for Mee, and possible long term replacement.

Left footed , big , strong, only 25, not too expensive and a local ish lad.
I'd be surprised if we haven't enquired about him IF he is indeed available.

Would give us a real set of 4 defenders, with the 2 back ups keeping the balance if the side with time to develop into the main roles when needed in the future.

It would be somewhat odd if we aren’t interested in him considering we’re seemingly after another centre back and tried to buy him in January (apparently).

Another nudge at Thomas Robert..

https://tbrfootball.com/burnley-take-ce ... -on-trial/
This is an interesting one. This is an article about the lad when he first went up to Scotland.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54423072

For me the key points are:
- he dreams of playing in England, so understandable that he's been happy to come on a trial with us
- he wants and almost expects to play first team football , Sean will have to manage those high expectations
- his dad coaches him after every game. That's something else that Sean is going to have to manage.

He comes across as having a bit of a chip on his shoulder about his dad, I can understand the staff at Burnley wanting to have him in the building to see if he can leave his ego at the door and put in the hard work to become a Dyche player and not just the son of Laurent Robert. Sounds similar to the situation with Tom Ince. I'd expect the cameras to pan to his dad in the crowd at every game if he comes through to the first team.

I had a laugh reading the Robert article in The Sun.

Loads of interest in him from top European clubs, but he went to Airdrie for first team football and now he’s happy to be back in an U23 squad?

Aye, ok.

He must have missed this from two and a half weeks ago.

Info is that Everton want McNeil... Not sure if it's in the public domain yet, but seems a reliable source.

Everton targeting Dwight McNeil. Benitez is keen to bolster his winger options. (Pete Graves is the source)

Burnley are targeting two wingers. One of which is Dan James but they have been put off by the 25m asking price.

Utd paid around £19m for him and he's not exactly set the world alight

But, for the right price of say £15 - 20m he will be snapped up by someone else if not us

Better quality players usually come at a premium price.

If the rumours surrounding Dwight McNeil and Everton are correct I wonder if they will be put off by our asking price?

James for £15m plus add ons to a potential £20m would be fair in this market. He has flattered to deceive at a club of that size but would undoubtedly improve us immeasurably and give us a real injection of pace.

Of every name linked this summer in those wide positions, he is for sure the one that excites me most. He’s played at this level and proven capable, he’s (presumably) already settled in the North West area, good age and fast. Ticks all the boxes bar, sadly, the only one that matters. Not a chance we will afford him and his salary.

Worth pushing the boat out for, but we won’t.

I think James improves us only if we keep McNeil. If we lose him we are worst off than last season

James is like Aaron Lennon. The cross into the box is as likely to go out for a throw in over the far side as it is to land accurately around the penalty spot.

Would love James I think he would shine for us and add a different dimension to our attack. To say we spend 95% of games with lower possession than the opposition it’s odd to think we actually don’t score many goals / look threatening on the counter.

I would have thought at least 40m at the bare minimum unless they are paying 25 and giving us a couple of players

The article says they want the following in before the season starts.

Townsend, Gray and McNeil.

I suspect they are trying to shift a few out to make room for these.

I would be devastated if we lost Mcneil

Burnley simply cannot sell Dwight for £25m, with his contract length and his worth to our club itd have to be double that. We have nobody else like him, and then we’d need to sign 3 wide players this summer.

If we lose Dwight then we need 3 new wingers. Would people be happy with 40m for Dwight if it allows us to bring in say, James for 20, Cornet for 15 and another for 5-10? Okay I know transfer fees don’t fall into place immediately etc before ChesterPerry comes in and has a go but in a hypothetical scenario.

25 million for McNeil 😆🤣😂 surely that's at the very least per leg, he's 21, English, a winger that puts loads of crosses in, gets plenty of assists and scores goals, not to mention he's on a four year contract, fake news at 25 million

So £25m minus delphs drain on our wage budget whilst he sits on the injury table? No thanks.

Tom Davies and Kenny would be better , take a look at a former target, if he’s not deemed good enough then sell him on. Although Davies would be rated much higher

Don’t think our manager and coaching team would agree with you on that. Young English winger who has played consistently at the top level for past 3 seasons with our most assists for 25 million really?

Think we can safely write this off as made up nonsense. We wanted £40m+ for Tarkowski even when he made it clear he wouldn't sign a new deal. No chance we sell a more valuable player on a long term deal for less than that.

Times northern reporter mentioning the interest in McNeil as well

Look, we'll have a selling price, but it would have to be high for us to consider I'd have thought

Think the Buendia fee will see us not selling for anything under £40 million.

Looks realistic to me. No world beater here.
You really don’t rate McNeil do you?

It may do, the financial outlook of the new owners, in terms of being willing, or indeed having to wheel and deal, may be totally different to that of the previous regime.

for those still look at Maxwell Cornet this is telling - speculation looks to have been from their side as they are desperately pushing for sales

"To recap, the other options Lyon currently have in this position are:

- Maxwel Cornet (24), who OL had been aggressively offering to mid-table Premier League clubs but got 0 bites for"
