Interesting read about Checketts time at RSL, a team he built from scratch its worth noting.

Again I’m sure Chester has better information.
Just for a start at Real Salt Lake this is the interview when the new owner took over.

There was clearly lots going on, lots of hurdles and things like Lehmans going bang along with the global recession etc.

The fact the previous owners left the club in such a good spot could mean they have the correct footing to make it work.
However, I also think people should be aware of there previous failings.

What a surprise to see Newcastleclaret93 turn another thread into a dig at the new owners. Stick to refreshing Twitter all day and posting the transfer links on here.

What’s the deal with Checketts then? I can’t find anything.
Did wonder when CP raised it. His CV from a US sport perspective looks very impressive at face value so there must be more to it.
Edit - missed links, will read them now.

We don't know all the ins and outs, some of it looks like 6 of one, half a dozen of the other when the 2 main men are being interviewed.

Looks like the move from Checketts to Hansen panned out well…..with Rea Salt Lake now being based in Kansas after Hansen was forced to sell on the back of allegations of racism, sexism and misogyny.
If you look for negative stuff about anybody, in this day and age there is a chance you will find it.

It seems a tad contradictory to say in one post that it’s too early to judge but in multiple previous ones, you’ve been doing just that.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 11:19 pm100% I am sure there were a number of factors. It concerns me but again it is too early to make any judgements.

With regard the fit and proper persons test, was Checketts assessed as part of this, was it Pace, was it ALK? I’m sure it’s been covered previously but I can’t recall if there was a definitive answer.
Actually - probably better not to hijack the transfer thread with more of this.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
The comment that the club does not have a pot to p*** in does possibly have a strong element of truth about it.
The structure that has been set up will result in £32 million pounds having to be found by the club during the current year since takeover , where previously no payments were payable. This reflects interest on the created debt,
payments due to MG/JB in satisfaction of outstanding shares, and salaries of the four directors where previously none were payable.
Cash flow will be critical if PL monies are used to clear these payments as the wages will then be at risk, heaven forbid.
To have an active transfer policy will require major new investment which then will mean more debt and interest payments but the club could well be at the limit of their financial risk. Hence the need to sell first, with at least 2 departing and the regular reports surrounding Tarks, Wood (Aston V again) and less so McNeil and Pope.
Mention was made earlier as regards the next manager if SD departs. Just as Crystal Palace quoted SD as being a good fit for the club should Roy Hodgson leave several months ago, Burnley made a similar response quoting Chris Wilder who had just left Sheff U around the same time. He has not been connected with any vacancies recently apart from WBA that appeared to go nowhere.
I always study the three promoted teams to see whether BFC are better placed in the possible relegation stakes. This year alas I feel each of the three promoted teams are far better equipped than BFC. Tough and unexciting times lie ahead as the situation currently stands.

Hi Newcastle, interesting stuff you post about Dave Checketts. He's the guy who set up Real Salt Lake, got them a $120m stadium built and won trophies. As I understand it, Alan Pace joined RLS, working for Checketts, part way thru this period. Of course, american sports franchises are very different to English football clubs. If Dave Checketts can bring some of his commercial experience to assist BFC then that will be great. I believe he will join the BFC board sometime in June - when he's completed his 3 years of leadership of the Later Day Saints Mission to the UK, based in London.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 11:47 pmFair comment. I think we'd all love it if Dave Checketts can be part of BFC winning trophies in the near future.
However, this is the "transfer rumours" thread. That's all from our new directors (on this thread) from me.

Hi matucana, wow, that £32m is an exciting number. Have you anything that substantiates any of it? Don't forget Alan Pace is an experienced investment banker. Don't you think he's capable of working out a budget and his cashflows?matucana wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 12:09 amThe structure that has been set up will result in £32 million pounds having to be found by the club during the current year since takeover , where previously no payments were payable. It’s the owners & directors test rather than fit and proper persons test and the name is correct in that no one can join the board of a Premier League club without passing the test which means all five of the new directors have passed it.

.....It could be a large Turnip!matucana wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:22 pmIt has always been a source of concern to me that additional monies were not borrowed to settle the outstanding share debts of MG and JB, thus giving the new owners full ownership via further secured debt. I do wonder if there is a problem here regarding debt levels etc and the ability to repay same in some potential lenders eyes, and this may give an indication as to our weak performance in the current transfer window. Unable to secure further debt the club would have to sell first, demanding full settlement before the club could acquire any targets. Current PL clubs interested in our players would sense this and so prolong negotiations to finally, after some time, agreeing to a deal further weakening our squad strength, with our planned targets in the meantime also having moved on elsewhere. We could start the new season in a much weakened position and find ourselves fighting a relegation battle from day 1 instead of hoping to put early points on the board. This could also be impacting on SD's thinking given his current situation regarding future managerial roles and contracts both here and elsewhere.

If Sean Dyche had a much deeper squad and better quality players in key areas, then perhaps his bonus for just surviving in the PL wouldn't need to be quite so generous?

Agreed. I mentioned in a different thread - as nobody else ever seems to want him when vacancies open up, why do we need to pay him such a massive bonus to make him stay?kentonclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 6:30 amIf Sean Dyche had a much deeper squad and better quality players in key areas, then perhaps his bonus for just surviving in the PL wouldn't need to be quite so generous?

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
FWIW, my takeaways from the Checketts articles were:
- he invested heavily in infrastructure;
- he invested in players;
- he brought success on the pitch;
- he was loved by the players/charismatic;
- he was well connected (pitching to the CEO of Disney);
- he paid down the mortgage to make a sale happen (somehow);
- he found $33m to buy out his half (again, somehow).
- I struggled to understand the ice hockey one (seemed contradictory), but he took them from bottom to the playoffs, improved the team with younger players through transfers, and, by the authors own summary, put them “back on the map” and “left the whole organisation stronger than it was six years ago”.
That all sounds like the type of folk I’d want involved in the Burnley FC.
Although I think we’ll all find out whether they have a pot and how big it is in this transfer window, so probably a pointless debate and one we should wait and see what happens.

Never heard of this chap. but it would be typical of Brighton to sign a forward who struggles to score, and there's been many who've impressed in the Bundesliga and struggled to make the transition to the PL, this looks a lot compared to say Ollie Watkins who went for only a slight amount more last year, and who has justified his price tag at Villa.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 8:52 amBrighton agree record £25m deal to sign Stuttgart forward Nicolás González

Maybe he'll prove a surprise package next season, but I have my doubts, and at that money he may well prove to be an expensive flop.
As we meet them on day 1 we'll soon find out.

Looks like that’s over then. A potentially smart signing , with quality and experience In numerous positions , looked a good proposition for a year but hopefully they’ve got other irons in the fire, can’t see there being another freebie like as good as him knocking about who’s willing to come to us mind you.

It depends if he would be satisfied with just a back up role at Villa, I can't see him getting much game time with them. If he is keen to play, which I hope he is, then we would be a better proposition.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 3:24 pmLatest from mirror:
