I’m pleased the Albrighton discussions are ongoing. He would be a good signing so hoping Leicester only give him a small number of years making the player open to a more secure contract.
As I know nothing about Cornet I’m yet to be excited about this player

Westwood is technically light years ahead
Cork 1.6 1 1.2 0.3 0.5
Westwood 0.6 1.2 0.8 0.2 1.4
Brownhill 1.4 2.1 1.1 0.3 0.5
Repost reminder from whoscored for the Brownhill haters.
Based on that, Brownhill is easily a replacement for Cork and much, much younger. Surprised Westwood is so far behind on tackles, but clearly, factually, the creative one of the 3.

I also love Newcastle’s “just one extra interception it’s not worth it” concept. Out of about 400 players, there are 4 who averaged more than 2.1 … Ndidi, Fofana, Cooper and Bednarek. More than Kante. More than Declan Rice. More than Soucek.

What about loss of possession, misplaced passes, failed tackle, shots on/off target?

to me looks like its the same old message little money to spend not prepared to pay wages. Very little transfer activity again so far. But this time we are in debt. Very discouraging to hear this. Eventually it will bite us on the backside and we will get relegated and ALK will be in big trouble trying to pay debts off playing championship football

Re: Is it same, old same old
That’s what I tried explaining last night to 1 poster who thought we could be poised advantageously to grasp any bargains that were about, the money just isn’t there & some as already been spent. It’s going to be harder than ever to really compete, season after season objectives will be to hope that 3 teams will do worse rather than to concentrate on pushing on, might be odd bargains but really have to be streetwise about things.bartonscigar wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 11:21 pmhttps://www.lancs.live/sport/football/t ... e-21130373

We might be struggling to compete with clubs around us financially but we also shop in the wrong market. We can easily compete with the like of Celtic and Rangers for players ( that young Israeli lad looks a bargain ) but we just don’t look beyond a certain market. Unfortunately this is where Dyche really needs to improve his knowledge as we know he won’t sign anyone he doesn’t know.

Saying that though, managing people isn’t just about recruiting the right people for your existing workforce, it’s about being able to manage different characters.
If we are to tap into foreign markets, there surely needs to be a little more accepted risk with signings.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
That Japanese kid they signed looks good too, 15 goals in 21 J league appearances for a teenage winger (I think?). ALK are in a very difficult spot imo, the club is in debt, we can't afford to be relegated and we desperately need players with little money. The yearly interest payment on the current loan is gonna eat at our margins further.Shaggy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 12:34 amWe might be struggling to compete with clubs around us financially but we also shop in the wrong market. It's a bigger risk to give Dyche less than it is to give him more but how do we possibly give him more if we haven't got it? Looks a very slippery slope into further loans and hope we can raise income, maintain PL survival for years to come and start making good money on player purchases then eventual sales. We need to use the market wisely but we haven't got that ability in our foreign recruitment, the French league is on it's arse financially, we should be sniffing allover it with our limited funds, gathering all kinds of data and expert opinion.
We are at a serious crossroads, I have no idea what ALK do, pray Dyche can keep us up with limited funds and a squad short or further commit on future fees to add with the debt and interest payments? Neither seems like a sensible decision really.

Dyche says in that interview “we can’t afford many misses”. That is why we ship in the market we do. I’d imagine the level of due diligence in taking on potential new signings at Burnley is up there with any club in the Premier League. If a player hasn’t played in England, that’s a huge level of risk to take on.
At the end of the day, it’s established us in the Premier League. Should we go down, we’d be extremely well placed to bounce straight back.

I think this coming season will be the one to test us the most.
We dident finish last season well lost lot games towards end.
Lucky 3 teams were doomed a long time before that.
We wont be improving the first 11 significantly so could be a tough one.

Without further new signings I think we’ll be relegated this time.
The squad has been stretched and stretched to the limit and Dyche can’t keep performing miracles with a squad weak on quality. To buy it adds to the debt. There is no queue of investors. We will just service the debt until the club is sold. It will just have higher revenues ( if we stay in the PL that is) and be more technologically advanced. I don’t see how the AJK model would work in the Championship.

Pretty hard to understand the takeover if there's no money or support for desperately needed transfers. I'm still hopeful we'll bring in some new blood but if we don't we're in trouble. The squad is smaller and a year older.Boss Hogg wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:50 amWithout further new signings I think we’ll be relegated this time.

Given we've been linked via credible sources to the likes of Albrighton, Cornet and Maitland-Niles suggests there is money to spend. I'm confident we'll make at least two signings good enough for the first team before the window is over (admittedly it may not happen until towards the end of the window but that's just the way things are unless you want to pay over the odds).

The Dyche interview is quite interesting in that it says: “When the new ownership came in, they made it clear they want to build the club.”
Then goes on to say:
“They’re not going to throw money in and say, ‘just get on with it’. So the club still has to be pretty diligent. We’re still in a particular market”.
Begs the question, how do they want to build the club if they’re not prepared to throw some money in? Are they trying to build it using the same diligence we have employed in the past without signing anyone?
It’s all very contradictory, even more so when you consider he has said “Finance is available, I can assure everyone of that”.
Can only put it down to expectation management but we’ve heard all this so many times before it’s hard not to find it a bit concerning.

I’m confident there will be 1-2 more signings like Collins and Hennessy to make the first team squad stronger. That was identified as the biggest obstacle to a higher league position.
I’m still hopeful of Albrighton to strengthen the first eleven. A lot depends on any new contract Villa offer.
Dyche referred to seeing what happens next week in a post match interview yesterday. It would be good to get away from these tedious arguments which just go over old ground

Lots of presumptions about no money to spend etc, debt upon debt, no investors etc, just presumptions, Dyche & Pace have both publicly stated they are going to strengthen so there is cash available & we’ve already committed 12 mil. As for debt Kieran McGuire who is the football finance expert states the take over is a good structured deal & only needs 6 mil of extra income to service the debt which is normal practice in acquisitions Could we get back to what this post is about transfer rumours……..

Palace having a great window so far. Joachim Anderson (starred for Fulham last year) set to choose them over multiple other clubs. Just shows the pulling power of Palace over us / funds available and why Dyche probably would have moved there if they came for him.

Hi there. I don't see it as contradictory. 'Building the club' is a generalisation for all aspects and all levels of the club. I would confidently suggest that it does not centre solely on putting new faces into the first team. There will be people busying themselves working towards promoting Burnley Football Club on a much wider scale, probably aimed at increasing marketability and most certainly 'selling' the brand in the States. There's a lot of cosmetic work going on at the club at the moment with the planned electronic displays(?) having the prep work done. No doubt there will be much more going on that I am unaware of, and probably can't comprehend, but I'm sure that everything is being pulled in the same direction.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:23 amThe Dyche interview is quite interesting in that it says: “When the new ownership came in, they made it clear they want to build the club.”

To be honest, bearing in mind where we were both on and off the pitch when Sean Dyche took over, where we are now with state of the art facilities and a Premier League team to be proud of, I find it very difficult to question the decisions taken to 'build the club'. I do get frustrated, of course I do. But the changes since the thumping at Cardiff we received as Dyche watched from the stands before taking over are pretty mindblowing.
I do believe the new investors are in it for the good of the club, the town and the area. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Another way for ALK to have looked at this is to note that we have managed to save £40 million whilst still maintaining Premier League Status AND improve the training ground, all within ten years or so.

Certainly would. More of a “Chairman is working hard to get our recruitment concluded and we’re confident we’ll have one or two more to add to the squad” message vs the same old financial restrictions stuff (which we’re more than aware of).

Hi Zom Zom. That’s a fair point; he did say “club”, not “team” and there is a difference. And I would say that I’ve been massively impressed with how ALK have pushed on with plans off the pitch so far - they’ve been outstanding and acted with real urgency, which is great to see.Zom Zom wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:44 amHi there. In fairness though, his response was in relation to a transfers question so you could reasonably assume he was responding in that context. I’m not so much frustrated with the lack of transfer activity - I’m quite realistic with that and recognise that other clubs will always have an advantage over us - it’s more the repetitive narrative about how hard things are vs. what we’re doing about it, I suppose.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Someone, somewhere in the club must make something happen in the wide areas before we're done. We've now got Dwight and JBG as our only recognised options, one of whom we can be quite sure will spend much of the season the sidelines.
Good news is Nixon, and he clearly knows a lot about us, says we're after two wide players. Need to nail at least one.

I understand why SD shops in the limited market he does, however this caution which has generally served us well over the past 5-6 seasons is also in grave danger of leaving us with an ageing squad on fairly high salaries in many cases, and this worries me in the event of relegation, plus I'm not convinced we would be so well placed to bounce back, especially if SD and a few of our stars left the building, take say McNeil, Pope & Tarks out of our squad, and even at Championship level we look an ordinary outfit, this and the servicing of the debt makes it even more important we avoid the dreaded trapdoor.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 7:59 amDyche says in that interview “we can’t afford many misses”. Therefore it's crucial we add a couple of quality additions, ideally guys that can be considered as 1st team starters, particularly in CM & RW positions.
We struggled to score goals last season (Wood accepted), and we can ill afford to be so powderpuff in attack next season, but a lot of our issues stem from a lack of creativity in the centre of the park, we ae far too reliant on Dwight to create any openings, and if he's off form, we rely almost solely on set-pieces for our goals.
Now if we could get a creative CM akin to Defour then we'll be a completely different proposition, that added to a RW replacement for Brady, and I can see us pushing for a top half finish again, but should we fail to land our targets in these key areas I can only see another season of struggle, I still think we'd have enough nous and grit to see us safe again, but that would depend on keeping our key personnel fit, as if any of our first XI is unavailable for any reason we look a shadow of ourselves, as evidenced on several occasions last season when we were down to the bare bones, and had to pad the bench out with kids.

My feeling on the investment company owners is they are looking to get as many under 23s in as possible in the hope that a couple will make that second chance improvement and become first teamers or can be sold for profit.
Not saying it’s right, not saying it’s wrong but that’s how I see it. Purchases will be in the same market place we have been for many years.

Ever thought one or two of the kids may make the grade this season?

I can’t see it MD, to me it looks like they are only involved due to our chronic shortages in the squad.
I suspect they will get a few minutes hear and there as subs (similar to Mumbongo last season).

Surely if you think we have chronic shortages you must think opposite, irrespective of how good they are, especially when you think one of the players is crap.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 11:04 amI can’t see it MD, to me it looks like they are only involved due to our chronic shortages in the squad.

They might, but it's a big ask for lads to jump from development footy to playing in the PL.
Richardson is the one who's receiving a lot of attention, and he's impressed in the friendlies, I can see him making the bench at the very least.
Not sure about the others, but it would be great if one or two could stake a claim for a 1st team spot.
