For what it’s worth, Nixon saying Albrighton and Cornet are our number 1 winger targets. However asking prices are more than first thought. For me £9-11m for Cornet will turn out to be a bargain, providing we can tempt him here I can’t see why we wouldn’t do that one - granted it may be nonsense.

The Pace of signings is far too slow
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
With Hertha having a big of 8m turned down I would have thought we'd jump in with a bid around 10m. His agents comments may backfire yet.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Sutton likes to be controversial IMO. He comes across as being very bitter a bit like Graeme Souness.I’m a few years I can see him becoming the next Garth Crooks or David Icke as his comments just get stranger and stranger. Playing football at a high level would be more of an attraction at Burnley than money alone.

Sutton refused to play for an England B team as he considered this a step too low for his ability. Never asked again

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Begovic looked outstanding at Stoke but the move to Chelsea didn't help him. He had a big bust up with Howe in January 2019 and was promptly dropped. He did play twice more but his last Premier League game for Bournemouth was when we won down there 3-1. Last season he stepped back in when Ramsdale was sold.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 9:41 amBegovic was great last season in the championship
But the two seasons before that he was really poor for Bournemouth and got loaned out to somewhere in Russia I think
Hennessey is better than Begovic, but I think its stretching it to say that Norris is better than him!
I'm happier signing Hennessey over Begovic but from what I've seen I would consider Norris a poor third in that group.

As far as I can see, we have signed a "good" prospect for the future - assuming Tarks stays this seasonkentonclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 1:21 pmSome posters on here got themselves a little bit too giddy after the Collins signing thinking that we would have the bulk of our business completed before the players returned for pre-season training.
Perhaps we have.
And a reserve gk
I was hoping we would see some different faces in our starting eleven against Brighton - still time to go

Simon Stone is saying we are interested in signing Ainsley Maitland Niles from Arsenal. I would be really happy with signing.

He's got some pace about him hasn't he?
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Would be absolutely thrilled with Maitland-Niles. Very versatile and lots of quality. I'm surprised if Arsenal are willing to let him go.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Arsenal rejected £20M from Wolves last summer, I assume his value has since dropped a little, probably nearer £15m. I'd like us in for Reiss Nelson too, around £10m. It's quite a bit of investment at £25m for the pair granted but it's possible we'd recoup that further down the line and those two would SIGNIFICANTLY improve our 11 whilst reducing the age and giving us young assets.
Fees are paid over the length of contract so it wouldn't require immediate £25m investment and I don't think we're too far off, 2-3 of real quality in the right areas. People forget, the moment you sign a player his value does not go down to £0, typically when it's a young player on a longer contract, their value would instantly rise.

Connor Roberts the Swansea right back being linked again
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Don't think he suits CM in a 4-4-2, more our RM role. Knows the defensive side of it.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Pope
Collins Tark Mee Taylor
Nelson(Arsenal) Westwood Maitland-N(Arsenal) Mcneil
Armstrong(Basturds) Wood
Something like that would be ideal, I've no idea how much it would cost to put that together but we'd be a damn good side and Dyche with those tools is a PL survival guarantee.
Would ALK rather gamble and give Dyche lesser tools and hope he can keep us up again? It's a huge huge gamble with the current loans and debt. We cannot afford to be relegated, we have to put together a good side now.
Giving Dyche less is a bigger gamble than giving him more imo.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If Leicester and Southampton are interested in Maitland Niles then it's time to look elsewhere and not to waste time on this non starter, Armstrong is a 25+ million pound player so we've no chance and Collins could cover right back but not a permanent place for the season

Collins played mostly right back at Stoke, his best performances came in that position.ClaretMov wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 5:17 pmIf Leicester and Southampton are interested in Maitland Niles then it's time to look elsewhere and not to waste time on this non starter, Armstrong is a 25+ million pound player so we've no chance and Collins could cover right back but not a permanent place for the season

Armstrong's contract expires in 12 months, there's absolutely no way they'll get £25M for him.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Depends how much Maitland Niles wants to play regularly and in a system that suits him. He was prepared to go to West Brom.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
It's good you say Armstrong is a £25m+ player though because you're probably not wrong if he had 3 years left on his contract. If we signed him on a 4 year deal for £12m-15m, I assume he's still a £25m+ player.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Nixon tweeted just today saying they want 25 for him.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
He said that ages ago too, want and get are different things. As time ticks on his contract, the Venkys keep losing money, I'm pretty sure they wont want him leaving on a free in less than 12 months time. If nobody offers £25m, which they wont, I'd guess they'll be prepared to accept alot less.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
The most interesting thing for me is the actual number of players we have strong links to, it shows at the very least we are trying to get signings over the line and are very active.
Linked with Collins and Hennessey, both signed.
Still linked with Worrall, Phillips, Cornet, Yarmolenko, Albrighton, Christie and now Maitland-Niles shows intent. It also shows we are not just looking at our usual 1 player 1 person approach but casting the net wide with options if players go elsewhere.
Of course, we may not sign any of them but at least it feels we have upped our game.

There’s also a good chance that we have the feelers out about several players in case the first targets don’t come off. For example if what’s being said is correct, that Albrighton and Cornet are our main targets for the wide positions, then it may just be that we identified these two as good options at good prices, if they then become inflated or “bad” prices then we may well move on to the more expensive targets as the value for money on the long term could be more worth our while, e.g. Albrighton at 31 for £10m or Dan James at 23 for £17-£25m. Not beyond the realms of possibility

Brentford have made their 2nd summer signing adding centre-back Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic on a five-year-deal.
The fee according to the Scottish media is £13m or so, Ajer isn't a bad player, but he does have an error in him from time to time.
The Bees also signed Nigeria midfielder Frank Onyeka from FC Midtjylland yesterday for an undisclosed fee.

I don't quite understand our supposed interest in Cornet, every time I've seen him play it's been on the left hand side.

Saw him play against Liverpool in champions league twice last season. Thought he had two very good performances. Obviously a very small selection to gain an opinion but thought he looked good.

Exactly. There seems to be a narrative that every single signing Brentford make is a rough diamond that will turn into a great signing.

let's also not forget that both clubs are owned by the same guy, if it doesn't work out they'll no doubt transfer him back for another "undisclosed" feeNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 10:09 pmSaw him play against Liverpool in champions league twice last season. Don’t know a lot about him, but when I read the Celtic mb they seemed to say he was positionally poor and susceptible to errors. A few said he wasn’t their best CB. Will be interesting to see if that was sour grapes or whether he adapts well to the higher level. Tbf, he’s at the right club for development.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 10:31 pmGutted about this - he is the one player i have been banging on about us signing for a while on here now (Ajer)

We don't need another centre back, and having seen Ajer in action in the Old Firm games and Europe I have my concerns over whether he'll make the step up to the PL on a weekly basis, it's a big leap playing the likes of Hamilton & Kilmarnock to facing some of the best strikers in Europe most weeks.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 10:31 pmGutted about this - he is the one player i have been banging on about us signing for a while on here now (Ajer)
