That seems a more likely one to me. He’s not beyond our reach with wages as he’s young and cornet mentioned he knew him in his interview.

Amazed Ross Barkley didn't get a move somewhere, whether it be to us or elsewhere. He's basically going to lose another 6 months of his career not playing, though on that money I don't suppose he'll be too gutted. You would hope though he is desperate to play, perhaps that's the problem. He's still got the raw ability to get in England squads, shame he's gone so far backwards. I would've loved him to come here!

I love that he isn’t coming here WC as I think his days are largely over as a top Premier/International player.willsclarets wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:33 pmAmazed Ross Barkley didn't get a move somewhere, whether it be to us or elsewhere. You've taken my comments out of context a little bit there. I was replying to comments about Newcastle being in trouble after a considered poor window. I'm saying Palace have had one as well.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:11 amYou don't have to be, just please be convinced by ours that's all I ask, cornets the 1 I feel is the 1 to be excited about & it's critical he performs the rest will have a bit part to play i feel, maybe Roberts more if he plays his way into the first team reckoning.

Palace have a lot of unproven players at this level. as well as a new manager in Vieira, I'd also add Wolves to the list of poor windows, they've not brought anyone of note in that I can see, and they've also lost important players notably Rui Patricio, and they also have a new gaffer at the helm in the shape of Bruno Lage.

Only two years ago he got 8 caps and scored 4 goals. Went to Villa and started well before injury did for him. There is still a player there once he’s firing again.

I saw nothing arriving at Palace that changes my opinion that they will have a real fight on their hands this season. Wolves I think are like a punctured balloon at the moment but will finish lower mid table and need drastic work next summer.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 1:17 pmPalace have a lot of unproven players at this level. as well as a new manager in Vieira, I'd also add Wolves to the list of poor windows, they've not brought anyone of note in that I can see, and they've also lost important players notably Rui Patricio, and they also have a new gaffer at the helm in the shape of Bruno Lage.
I think pound for pound Burnley have become stronger than most as a result of this window, I think the club has demonstrated it is looking up rather than down. I’m very content with the work Burnley Football Club have done. Also, that Pace has demonstrated he understands what needs doing at all levels of the club. I’m very pleased with our window.

I knew exactly what you was saying & to a certain degree I agree, the reinforcements introduced to some of the sides within the PL are extremely unproven including ours, I'm sure some will step up & some will struggle, it's always a gamble really when recruiting outside of the PL when experience isn't there & in our & palaces case & others we don't know what will happen or if the players will be successful.

I’m certainly not as despondent as too many about our 4CMs. They can appear lightweight against the top sides but our results over recent years have garnered wins at Chelsea, ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton so it can’t be that bad. Against the lesser teams they more than hold their own. With less need of Brownhill wide right our 4 are all playing for two shirts this has to be a plus.

When i saw that Tuchel had binned him from his plans i thought Chelsea would have gone all out to loan him out on reduced wages just to get him in the shop window, reduce their outgoings & get him out of the building. This is the bit of football "business" I don't understand.....willsclarets wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:33 pmAmazed Ross Barkley didn't get a move somewhere, whether it be to us or elsewhere. Everybody is talking about Dwight at No10, who knows, SD might be looking to try Cornet in that role......he's got good feet, can pass & a decent goalscoring record. Thoughts, anyone?claretandy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:00 am8/10 for me, just missing that marquee number 10 to give us the option to go 451.

Thanks for the info, I thought it'd make a mockery of a transfer window if clubs could just rip up contracts between windows, even by mutual consent to let players move clubs.superdimitri wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 8:46 amThey have to be out of contract by the time their own transfer window shuts to be eligible for registration with us.
Loans have to be made during the window.
Free agents (those who had no contract with a club prior to their transfer window closing) are available to sign.
Any idea if the window is still open for loans to the EFL like it was last window?
Just wondering if we'll still be able to get our youngsters out for loan experience?

The reason Dwight seems an obvious choice is his great technical ability and lesser pace. Players like this have traditionally done well in the 10 where there is less space to run into but more tight situations.
Cornet is an obvious choice out wide because he’s rapid.

One thing's that often said is the players we have dictates a more defensive approach to games.. although I'm not expecting a gung-ho concede 4 but score 5 approach, it will be interesting to see how SD develops as a coach with more gifted players to call on.. I know signing Cornet isn't the only ingredient to a more attacking quicker playing style but it's a huge step in that direction.. it's a chance for Sean to shine too and hush the hoof ball critics.. I for one can't wait to see it

It comes from a Chairman who can finance it and likes hoarding players. If Barkley has one good game against Chelsea it could take silverware away from them…. He is no danger whatsoever turning out for Chelsea reserves.rob63 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 2:07 pmWhen i saw that Tuchel had binned him from his plans i thought Chelsea would have gone all out to loan him out on reduced wages just to get him in the shop window, reduce their outgoings & get him out of the building. He wouldn't be eligible to play against them on loan. By strengthening teams through loaning them players, Chelsea are improving their chances of taking points from their rivals.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 3:43 pmIt comes from a Chairman who can finance it and likes hoarding players. To a point I agree, but it comes with risk. First Burnley would need to be supported over wages and another failed loan would reduce their assets value far quicker than letting him tick over there until someone is willing to take a punt on a permanent transfer. The loan to Aston Villa will have cost Chelsea, another failure at Burnley would make a sale impossible.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 3:48 pmHe wouldn't be eligible to play against them on loan. For all of the talk of Palace having had a poor window the lad Conor Gallagher looks a decent loan acquisition and they certainly surprised West Ham last Saturday (as well as all of the entrants to the Premier League Predictions game who all went for a Hammers victory - myself included).
Too early to judge them yet as new players and new manager take time to settle and adjust.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Completely agree it’s too soon to judge, yet… but PV may have all the experience and no-how of all his years at the top but his managerial career is somewhat underwhelming thus far to tackle a club in the kind of transition Crystal Palace are going through. He may succeed, chances are he will not unless he is given slack to learn from his mistakes. Palace needed a route and branch turnaround, but I’d have wanted someone with a track record knowing the level of management needed there. I remain surprised they did not make much more of a play for SD this summer. I doubt they will dismiss him next, which is why it remains vital he is not an option by getting the contract sorted, not that I doubt it will be sorted, but I would prefer to dry ink.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:06 pmFor all of the talk of Palace having had a poor window the lad Conor Gallagher looks a decent loan acquisition and they certainly surprised West Ham last Saturday (as well as all of the entrants to the Premier League Predictions game who all went for a Hammers victory - myself included).

That's because we could defend better that season, largely playing 5 in midfield and Pope had his best ever season keeping a high number of clean sheets. Last year not only were we one of the three lowest scorers but got thumped by Man City, Chelsea,Leeds and Spurs. I believe in these 3 games alongside others we did not register a shot on goal. Other than Wood our three other strikers combined, just managed double figures and our central midfield less than 3. We are crying out for goals , and at present a defence that does switch off. I am sure SD will sort out our defence, and I am hopeful that Cornet will provide a good outlet when breaking-a major improvement on JBG of late, and Brady

The terms are obtrusively complicated so its really hard to know every ins and out (pardon the pun).rob63 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 2:19 pmThanks for the info, I thought it'd make a mockery of a transfer window if clubs could just rip up contracts between windows, even by mutual consent to let players move clubs.

I believe that youth players (u21) can still go on short term loans to non-league clubs and can continue even to play for our development squad/youth team at the same time. To league clubs no.
I also believe that there used to be a small window after the transfer window shut whereby football league clubs could still loan players but I think this ended a couple of years back due to a FIFA ruling. Last year due to the pandemic EFL clubs were given an extra week to do some loan deals, but that was a one off I believe.
Between eachother. They can't sign a player from a club if that club's transfer window has already shut. Well, actually they can, but that player won't be able to transfer until the window opens again.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 5:06 pmYou can still transfer someone out if you get a bid.
