You could well be right, but on the surface he looks like the kind of hidden gem we were once really good at finding and polishing. I'd be very keen and happy at the right price.

I have never seen Collins play so I won’t pretend to know whether this will be a good signing or not - however, having a cursory look on ‘The Oatcake’ (Stoke’s main forum) shows how highly they rate him.
They think £12m is a disgrace of a sum too.

If he turns out to be the next James Tarkowski or Ben White, the fee would look like excellent value.

Lots of talk that £15m will get Stoke to the table.
That £3m gap is going to be a good yardstick to compare our old regime, and our new.
I’m not saying we should pay any price quoted. But nonetheless, it is the kind of gap that has ruined bids for us in the past and left us where we are now in terms of squad strength.

Can you really see this Collins deal happening when the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal Leicester and even Chelsea are linked with him, if it was Mansfield Accrington Luton or Colchester we might of been able to compete
If the rumours are true and those clubs are looking at him Let's hope the lad wants to play each week and not be a bench warmer for one of the big boys and picks Burnley one of the most organised defences in Europe

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he’s looked at the likes of Trippier, Tarkowski and Keane to see the potential of playing for Burnley.ClaretMov wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 12:57 pmCan you really see this Collins deal happening when the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal Leicester and even Chelsea are linked with him, if it was Mansfield Accrington Luton or Colchester we might of been able to compete

If we benefit financially and on the field, being seen as a good stepping stone is a good position to be in.

This should be one of our biggest selling points, that we develop players who then go on to play international football whilst at Burnley and some move on to bigger clubs, or they become key players for us and stay for years.

I’d be happy to have Ashley Young as long as we also sign a younger winger too. He would definitely be a good option for us for a year, in my opinion.

This from the Watford Observer
Ashley Young's proposed return to Watford is hanging in the balance with new Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi keen to retain the left-back's services for another season.

I'd agree with that but how many players would choose that over the extra 10, 20, 30 grand and status of playing for* a top 6 club?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 7:29 pmThis should be one of our biggest selling points, that we develop players who then go on to play international football whilst at Burnley and some move on to bigger clubs, or they become key players for us and stay for years.
I guess players who choose us over sitting on a bench for more money tick the "character" boxes for SD.
*or not actually playing, as the case may be

I’m not knocking Grezza but one season apart he played all his football at lower levels. Young has been a top flight player virtually all of his career.
I’m not suggesting it will be a good or bad signing if it happens but his age shouldn’t be a huge concern.

More to the point; doesn't he play left side, the area we least need to strengthen?

Brady was also a left sided player but played pretty much all of his football for us on the right. McNeil apart, Dyche seems to prefer to invert his wingers.
Even if he just takes on a Matt Taylor type role for us, being a throw of the dice off the bench to bring on for his delivery, at least it gives us another option with some real quality.

Are people really turning their nose up at Ashley Young? Really?
Just won Serie A, with a manager that is probably the most demanding in the game, and somehow he isn’t good enough for us?
Young would be a fantastic acquisition for a year.

Can't say I'd be against Young on a one year deal. Adds to the squad and he clearly can still hack it. Played plenty of times for the winners of Serie A last season.

Milan might be able to cut it in the Premier league but I doubt 75% of the other clubs could. Seria A standards are way below ours
The body of a 36 year old is way to old to make a serious impact in the Premier league, he will spend the majority of his time on the physio bench.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I personally think it would be an astute signing. His experience, awareness and understanding of playing both full-back and wing could be invaluable. Adding a bit more balance to the left and something both Taylor and McNeil could learn from/build on.
There's a touch too much naivety with Taylor and Mcneil both on the left at the same time and Pieters, as reliable as he is. Hasn't just won a Serie A title. He's obviously still capable of playing at the top level.
