all these concerns, rumours, etc etc just confirms one thing :

Well done Burnley Football Club for punching well beyond their weight yet again.

WE KNOW quality players dont come cheap

WE KNOW there's very little chances of a Andre Gray, Austin, Ings at their transfer fee back then

WE KNOW we are bottom feeders in players/agents choices

WE KNOW the manager and the lads will give it everything

WE KNOW at periods/several periods this season fans on here WILL call for SD head

WE KNOW the new board is probably a upgrade on forward digital thinking and matters off the field but probably only a slight / if any for wealth and money investment.

So concentrate on telling us things we dont know and move forward together.
I'm glad someone can see the reality to our situation, sure we'd all like to be able to go out and sign players without giving it a 2nd thought, but as well as the initial transfer fees, there's also the small matter of wages, plus various other add-on's which come naturally with any high profile transfers in this day and age, particularly any transfer business at PL level, agents will always be taking their cut, and equally advising their clients according, hence why we need to box clever in the market, and crucially exercise patience, I think we will do further business in this window, but it well probably be in the final week, once Championship clubs especially realise that they may have to drop their asking prices if they wish to move players on.

For all the moaning on this forum, and I don't exempt myself from that on occasions, we must be doing something right as a club to still be enjoying competing in the PL for 6 successive seasons, just let that fact sink in, when there's supposedly far bigger clubs struggling in the Championship, or even League 1 or League 2.

Yes we need a couple of additions, but as long as we keep our core together we'll be fine, RW is the one area where we definitely need to recruit, as playing Brownhill out there just doesn't work, and leaves us unbalanced.

But both Collins and Hennessey are good signings, one a starlet who was wanted by many PL teams, and the other an experienced back-up in a specialist position if we should need cover for NP.

And what encourages me is we're being heavily linked to players, whereas last summer there was barely a whisper about any new arrivals.

However it's one thing being interested in players, it's quite another for the stars to align and allow us to complete any such deals, especially if there's other interested parties, that's just the reality we have to live in, by PL standards we're a small fish in a big pond, and there's always the risk of the sharks circling around our own prized assets at the same time.

We can only judge the window once it slams shut in 5 weeks time, but if we don't get at least a couple more in the building I'll be surprised.

So I think that Pace will make sure that a few more join before the window shuts for sure. Hopefully in the next week to get them up to speed but that’s asking a lot
[/quote]

I'm expecting this is the case as I'm sure the new owners understand they have to invest to make their investment grow.

Possibly.

Or.

Medicals take an age these days. If it was a prospective signing it'd make sense to drop his car off at Barnfield, travel with the necessary staff to Manchester (I believe we still do our medicals there don't we?) and get it done on the quiet. Then come back for the photo shoot, media stuff etc.
I've seen players reported on Sky Sports turning up for medicals at 7am.

I know I wouldn't be leaving my £90,000+ car parked in Manchester.
This would be an awesome catch if so.

On the Daily Express website this morning was this. Sounds like it's still doable but we'd really have to up our bidding.

Marc Albrighton remains option for Burnley
Burnley remain interested in signing Marc Albrighton from Leicester but a deal will not be easy due to Brendan Rodgers' appreciation of the player.

Sean Dyche is a big admirer of the winger's industrious style and is looking to add another wide player to his ranks.

Leicester would ideally like to keep Albrighton - who has just one year left on his current deal - and are even prepared to lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Their stance means Burnley would have to present a considerable offer to twist Leicester's arm.

Express Sport understands reports linking the Clarets with a surprise swoop for West Ham's Andriy Yarmolenko are nonsense.

The Hammers would like to shift the Ukrainian from their wage bill this summer but Yarmolenko (£115,000 per week) earns more than double Burnley's highest-earner James Tarkowski (£50,000 per week).

...Footballers who featured in at least half of the league games for a top 6 club the previous season, will not sign for Burnley.
I tend to agree. 'Established' EPL players who're still in their prime are likely to get a better offer elsewhere. There is an argument that says signing for Burnley's a smart move for a 'not quite top-drawer' twenty year old, insofar as he's more likely to get game time for us than a big-six, or even top-ten club, once he's broken in to the side; the downside for them of course, is that SD seems reluctant to take the risk on them in the first place, so they're committing to the possibility of waiting a year or more to get that chance to break into the team - Gibson & Vydra being examples. Where we are perhaps a preferred destination, is for established, but past their prime - due to injuries or age - EPL players, who would like to play regularly for a while longer at the highest level rather than just the odd game when someone else is injured/suspended and are prepared to accept a lower salary to do so.
So our teams going forward are likely to comprise one or two youngsters who've come through the U23 ranks and who'll get sold on to someone bigger/better if they fulfil their 'promise', 5 or 6 slightly better than average journeymen players in their prime (half-a-step better than Championship level) who'll be with us for years and a few decent 30+ year old pros finishing out their top level careers; which reminds me an awful lot of the Burnley teams that I was watching 45 years ago.

That's exactly why we wont sign him regardless of any encouragement.

He's a decade to young and way to raw and fast for our set up just yet.

They'll be a thirty odd year old work horse somewhere, we currently want on for free or on the cheap, but if not we will spend a few quid to get one.
I’d assumed that said thirty odd year old workhorse is Albrighton ? “Get it done”

Winger Options

Carlos Mane - Rio Ave

https://www.sofascore.com/player/carlos-mane/859748

https://fbref.com/en/players/7a854622/Carlos-Mane

Rapid, good at progressing the ball, excellent crosser, doesn't shy away from putting in a defensive shift when asked to do, can play on either wing, qualifies for a GBE ( I ran the numbers ), recently relegated with Rio Ave and they just brought in a new right winger so he should be available at a fairly cheap price.

He played very well last season in a team that suffered from having all of its attacking teeth pulled, bar him. The crosses were still going in, but instead of having Taremi on the end of them Rio Ave had nobody that could hit a barn door at ten paces. The sales of Santos and Lopes also hurt the team and that is why Rio Ave went from Europa League qualifiers to a relegated team, with a goals scored tally that dropped from 48 to 25.

Abdou Harroui

https://www.sofascore.com/player/abdou-harroui/915812

https://fbref.com/en/players/65fd099c/Abdou-Harroui

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdcdjTqcSAQ

Two footed who can play anywhere across the midfield line. Not particularly rapid, but quicker than a lot of our players and an excellent technical dribbler. He has a respectable shot in him and last season his shots on target stat was 43%.

In his 51 matches as a central midfielder he scored 15 goals and provided 6 assists. Operating as a defensive midfielder he scored 6 goals and generated 5 assists in 39 games. Playing out on the right he scored 7 goals and contributed 8 assists in 41 games.

It should be noted that those goals and assists were registered in the Dutch league with its perennial compliment of dodgy defenders.

Sparta Rotterdam aren't swimming in cash and they are a selling team. He has previously voiced his desire to move on in the future and I doubt Rotterdam will be relishing the likely prospect of losing him for nothing when his contract ends in a year.

Brian Ocampo

https://www.sofascore.com/player/brian-ocampo/941405

https://fbref.com/en/players/2e3995cd/Brian-Ocampo

https://www.leftbackfootball.com/home/2 ... ant-winger

The last link saves me writing a summary of his playing style and ability. With his contract coming to an end in December 2021 he is another player that could be picked up cheaply and the new changes to the work permit conditions could work favourably for us in his case.

Aaron Lennon

https://www.tribalfootball.com/articles ... or-4378559

Knows the club, knows the lads, knows what we are about and he played every game for Kayserispor last season so he is still in shape. Rigg might have to grovel to get him back after releasing him in the manner that he did, but grovelling might actually be good for him ( note - I still think that Rigg is our technical director and he has gone nowhere despite the Athletic article ).

Marc Albrighton

His playing style and character would definitely suit us, but it isn't going to happen, at least not at a price that would make financial sense.

Adam Reach

Hopefully not, because I suspect he would want one of Riggs generous 2 years +1 contracts on a big ( considering his ability ) wages. However, he would be better than loading the bench with league one hopefuls from our development squad again.

Jed Wallace

Perfect fit for us, but I think we spent all of our cash on Collins in the expectation that we would sell Tarks and have the money from his sale to do the rest of our business. So we can't afford him even if MIllwall were open to the idea of selling him.

Alternative Strategy

Forget about signing a left midfielder and sign a left wing back instead. Eric Pieters isn't a wing back and he wasn't a wing back when we bought him. Top bloke, but we made a mistake if we thought that he was capable of playing in that role for us. We leaked goals like a sieve when he tried to do it for us. However, he can do an okay job as a left back or as a left midfielder and we just gave him an extended contract. So we could bring in a good young left wing back to replace him as the dedicated back up for Taylor and make him Dwights back up.

I guess we do, but folks who think we'll be signing players in the £15-20m bracket, or the likes of Shaqiri & Yarmolenko on their huge wages are living in cloud cuckoo land.

As it happens I wouldn't take either of those anyway. one is a show pony, and the other is in his 30's and injury prone. Hence why Liverpool & West Ham respectively are trying to offload them off their books.

Albrighton seems to be our main target, but I hope we've got a back up plan in place should we fail to land him, as seems increasingly likely.

Possibly and unlikely.

Not a dig at SD, just highly unlikely he would play a kid unless forced to start with. Max Thompson been playing out wide I believe for the U23s but not really been around the first team squad much as I recall although he may have been injured (I don't know).

My Leicester friends down here tell me its unlikely Albrighton will join us this window. He is well thought of at Leicester, has continued to live in Birmingham despite his free transfer 7 or so years ago from Villa, and comfortable here. Why would he want to uproot at the age of 31. Leicester are in the Europa competition and take the cups seriously so lots of chances of game time, with no doubt strong involvement with the first team squad

Not a dig at SD, just highly unlikely he would play a kid unless forced to start with. Max Thompson been playing out wide I believe for the U23s but not really been around the first team squad much as I recall although he may have been injured (I don't know).
Supposedly being groomed for right mid according to some

I've seen it all:

Phil Bardsley linked with West Ham. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/20 ... -martinez/

Surely nothing in it...

Not at dig at the poster but aren't some of the kids around 22,23?

It may be a close call with Albrighton and I’m hoping the club are making it so difficult a choice for him that he is seriously considering moving to us .
It seems to have dragged on for a few weeks now and personally i think it would’ve a big lift for everyone if he decides to sign

Yep Leicester's European involvement could well convince him to stay with them, and with the 2 domestic cups they could easily play an additional 15 games on top of their 38 PL fixtures, so no doubt BR will rotate his squad regularly.

That's why I hope we don't spend the whole window chasing after him, well other potential targets fall by the wayside.

By hook or by crook we simply have to sign a right winger this summer, another season of Brownhill toiling away manfully out there just won't cut the mustard.

And if we're relying on JBG to play more than half our PL games we're taking an almighty risk given his fitness record.

Didn’t read the full story but they are having conversations with Coufal. If he wants out Bardsley would cover. Could be Iron politics.

Albert Gudmundsson of Alkmaar only has a year left on his contract, he’s be worth a gamble at what wouldn’t be too high of a price.

Kind of accepted that we won’t get any more serious 1st team players and it’s going to be another hard slog of a season. Here’s hoping I’m wrong…….

I have the utmost faith we will get a couple in before the windows shuts.

Money is clearly available, we haven’t tried to sign Ashley Young, Marc Albrighton and Maxwel Cornet (and whoever else we have failed thus far to get) expecting to use tiddlywinks to complete the purchase. We might move down the list now, but so be it - there is clearly some cash there to get one or two in.

Have faith!

We desperately need a few new faces in, I hope we're close to a few behind the scenes. A wide right midfielder is an absolute must. I really think we need a striker, a rb, and a cm too. But if we just get a quality wide player in I'll be a lot happier

Surely there’s no way at all the board will allow last seasons ( and the year before starting XI ) to stay another season ??? We’re literally crying out for at least 2 quality prem players , RB, RM/RW . We simply cannot go another season with some of the aging deadwood ( well though many have served)
