The ice cream puns on this thread can be likened to the Mexican Wave at a Test Match.

It means there's nothing happening on the field of play that justifies 85 pages.

That offer seems a bit ‘flaky’. Is Alonso being ‘frozen’ out?

Are you throwing Ferhat into the ring?
I've just spent an hour driving round Nimes and I can't find him so I won't be throwing him anywhere. My point was that he's a bit more like Rouwen Hennings, a player who's under the radar who's just had a great season and could be an "inexpensive" gamble. Cornet is probably disappointed that he's not attracting an offer from a team who will be in the Champions League this season.

GodIsADeeJay81 could be right though, I don't know if he'd get a work permit. Are the rules different in Scotland or would Rangers struggle too if he's not a current regular international?

Liverpool echo:

Everton face competition from Aston Villa for Dwight McNeil. Jonjoe Kenny was in talks with Burnley in January so a player plus cash deal could be an option. Everton value McNeil at £25m & see him as a top transfer target.

No to Kenny, and no to £25m thanks very much, the first because Kenny is dog poo, and the second because Dwight is worth way more than £25m to us, plus he's got a few years on his contract, so we can hold out for a good deal more than that derisory amount.

I doubt it’s anyone exciting. Why would we play someone in a behind closed doors game if we’ve not unveiled them.

Would anyone take Alen Halilovic on a free transfer? He was very highly rated as a youngster in Europe and I was surprised to see he played for Birmingham last season but didn't sign a new deal. He's only mid 20's and plays as an attacking midfielder. Could be a decent option.

Did anyone see him play for Birmingham or know anything about him? Could be someone who adds somthing a bit different to what we have.

 bizarre they paid £5m for Barkas last summer, and he's barely featured, now they sign Hart.

They've also signed James McCarthy after his release from Palace, but he's another guy who's been plagued by injuries.

McCarthy actually was at Celtic in his youth, but was turned down by the club then.

He claims to have been a life long Celtic supporter, but don't they all.

To be fair , James McCarthy, born in Glasgow , is fairly likely to be a Celtic Fan ... Not so sure about Joe O'Hart though 🤔

McCarthy's agent has played a blinder there, a 4 year deal for a guy who turns 31 soon, could you imagine the meltdown on here if Burnley signed someone in that mould.

Hart at 15k represents a big drop for Joe, but I suppose at this point in his career he just wants the chance to play games.

Celtic dropped a big b**lock when they released Craig Gordon last summer, he's been fantastic for Hearts, and none more so than in their 2-1 win over Celtic at the weekend.

Yes Craig is 38, but Allan McGregor is 39, but still the best keeper in Scotland, and he played a huge role in Rangers romp to the title last year.

McCarthy probably is a Celtic fan, and he did attend a Catholic school, which is often a hint.

I was just mocking all these players in the twilight of their careers, who when they join either Celtic or Rangers, they play the I've always been a fan card.

I've actually seen Joe Hart play at Parkhead, he took part in a charity game a few years ago, I'm pretty sure it was during his time with the Clarets, but naturally it took place during the summer, and he got loads of stick from the punters that day, so for his sake I only hope he makes an impressive start, if not the natives will soon make their feelings known, they aren't shy of doing that up here.

I think some are forgetting the season starts next weekend and we have 2 wingers on our books, and one is Johan Glass Ankles.

It's getting to the stage where anyone who can give us 20 minutes is an upgrade on what we currently have..

Wouldn't surprise me if we were taking a look
as a "just in case type situation"

‘Maxwel Cornet is in the sights of the British Burnley and the Germans of Hertha Berlin, as revealed by the website L'Équipe on July 19. The two clubs, cautious, are still in negotiations with the Lyon leaders, who are awaiting an offer of more than € 10m for the last two years of the 24-year-old Ivorian international's contract.’

I don't see what you are getting at.
I am making the point that if SD wants 2 orthodox right-wingers he won't find one in the Under 23s.
On that basis it seems logical to play even Lennon in a friendly if only to see how the system works.

my point is simple - he didn't need to replace JBG with an orthodox right winger. For example, he could've played Brownhill on the right and Gomez Mancini in the middle or vice versa. Or changed the formation to test what he'll do in just over a week if JBG has to come off and we don't sign a right winger before then.

I think Gomez-Mancini is a long way off filling a right wing/midfield berth, he plays centre-MF for the U23s, plays short passes....
Max Thompson plays wide right in U23s and he really isn't a midfielder.
OK, he could have used Brownhill there, but probably no point moving him out there when he's one of only 3 fit CMs.

Truth is we need to sign a proper right MF/Winger, preferably under 30 (25), for a fee and wages that we can afford...
Any ideas?
