When the big screen used to show adverts for clarets player including highlights of other matches whilst a match was on was very annoying.

I've previously always had the advantage of no being able to see a screen while watching the match, having to actually turn away from the pitch should I wish to see it.

Worst one for me was when they used to put us at the other end of the stand at Palace and when looking down the other end you could see the screen above the goals.

Why do some want WI-FI in the stadium? I'm there to watch football not browse FB or Tinder.
Maybe the club want it so they can send you an advert 5 mins before half time with pictures of pies !

I don’t really get this question. There are more uses for the internet than Facebook or tinder. Why do we need toilets or refreshment stalls in the stadium? I’m in there to watch football.

As someone else has mentioned, have you never wanted to know the other scores at half time? Or maybe during our game when other results may affect our league position? Maybe some people might want to send messages via web-based apps such as WhatsApp. Maybe some people might want to listen to commentary of the game. Maybe we will have the option to order half time food and drinks on an app to cut down queuing time.

I think that's as daft as it gets on this thread - comparing the need for the internet with the need for toilets.

Exactly

If you've been browsing Tinder you may need to use the toilets for some relief

They go hand in hand ;)

I used to get good 3G at the turf a few seasons ago. I used it for gambling.

Being at a game live is brilliant for predicting the result, next team to score, or when to cash out. I think being at the game you feel much more in tune with how the tides going.

I’m probably talking b0ll0cks but I’m sure I earned a fair bit

Re the wifi, appreciate us older ones scowl at the young uns, staring at their phone screens all day......but there’s a reason wifi coverage is seen as all but essential these days in public spaces, public transport, retail shops etc.....and them young uns use it for all sorts of things - e-tickets, updates, online shopping, match programmes, booking coach travel (Leisure!) etc.

And it’s them young uns who are the future of the club, not us old uns who expect em to sit and concentrate only on the pitch on a freezing wet and windy dour 0-0 match on a Tuesday night and after the match spend 30 minutes wandering around to find yer mates.

Them young uns.........little buggers.

Plus maybe the club gets people tempted to order the kits they are seeing on the pitch for collection after the game. You'd need reliable wifi for that

As long as you don’t have a to listen to any of the local BBC stations, that go “offline” on mobile/online devices whenever they are broadcasting football

I personally hate wifi on our local buses
This allows morons to scream conversations down their phones and on Reading buses actually charge them up

I imagine that they may view stadium wi-fi as a bit anachronistic given that 5g is on the way.

Was thinking I'd come on this post and say something positive about the announcement of big screens etc at t'Turf.

Seems this thread isn't about that...

Oh, well.

Take care, everyone.

Exciting times.

That was the night Sam Vokes scored the winner. I was having real problems seeing because of the boards behind the goal at the far end and thought it must be my eye sight until I got home and saw all the references to it on the message board.

The inside improvements look good though

:D Good point well made.

I don't think having internet access at a football ground is too much to ask though, and it's main intention is certainly not for millennials to browse facebook on. Digital tickets for example may require an internet connection to enable entry to the ground. There are hundreds of reasons why someone may benefit from being connected.

For the 2004 European Championships, Macdonalds had an ad where they used the sound of a football hooter to chime not for football but for Macdonalds, as a viral appropration of a natural thing.

I get the feeling that when goals are scored they will try and induce a media association of lights and sound and graphic 'pulsing' for want of a better word to overcome the crowd and blitz them in the act of celebration to emasculate natural joy and re-direct it towards advertised products via a perverted association.

I have my suspicions of Pace buying the club to use the Burnley fans for a social experiment in media indoctrination and product-sell.

He's obviously not interested in Burnley per se because he tried to buy Sheffield United, one of our biggest enemies.

I'd have thought the business model used would be for the club to let you use their wi-fi, but with supporters having to navigate through loads of pop up adverts (club partners etc.)

It would then be your choice as to whether you use it, or whether you use your own 4G etc.

I'm all in favour of super-duper wifi at the club. It would make no difference to me, but I know those people who spend all game staring at their screen instead of the match would like it.

I agree looking at other scores is desirable, but I do use a radio for that. The bit someone mentioned about Radio Lancashire being cut off on internet phones is interesting, though. If I'm at Accrington or Colne, listening to Radio Lancashire commentary of Burnley's away game, it would never have occurred to me that only a radio would do.

I enjoyed the Spurs screens but the one I hated was West Ham - sat very low so could see that huge screen behind the goal while watching the match.

Our equivalent looks very positive as long as it isn’t too “wild” (less is more in these things). I’m not sure I’d want to be sat in Row A though.....

If everyone on the bench has to dress up as Hamburglar to ensure we stay in this league and prove the new owners have the clubs interest at heart then I’m absolutely fine with it.

If they are going to replace the current Turf Moor Hero’s Boards around the ground with digital images, the first thing they should do is make sure that Brian O’Neil is displayed. I know the current pictures displayed were voted for by the fans, but come on, anyone who ever so him play in a Claret & Blue jersey must realise its a crying shame that is image is not already in a prominent position displayed at Turf Moor (right next to Ralph Coates would be my choice).

Alan Pace is on the front of the Express today, saying it will help fans get 'more connected' to the match.

I think he means himself and by implication everyone else.

I don't recall ever needing LED advertising screens to get me 'more connected' to the match, anyone else?

Who????

I've never heard anyone ever say that.

It looks jazzy in the picture but so does Times Square or Blackpool Illuminations with the same tech.

It's not football-related at all.

I know the current pictures displayed were voted for by the fans, but come on, anyone who ever so him play in a Claret & Blue jersey must realise its a crying shame that is image is not already in a prominent position displayed at Turf Moor (right next to Ralph Coates would be my choice).
There is no ‘but come on’. Over 18,000 votes were cast and O’Neil didn’t make it. He wasn’t even next in line for that category, Andy Lochhead was one definitely in front of him.

For what it’s worth, I voted for Brian and he was the only one of my choices who didn’t get on. As much as I’d have wanted to add him he was a way down the list for the vote.

If it helps us connect with bigger audiences and make exiles feel more part of the club and also making us more attractive as a club I am all for it. In todays world, through technology, fans living a distance from the club shouldn't feel disconnected because they don't live near the town. I don't feel we have moved with the times. It wasn't long ago where the only ways for fans to receive tickets was via post. Again, that can be solved with e-ticketing etc...

Remember it is 'One club for all'

The LED will be on all game advertising club partners, therefore bringing money into the club. The whole “it’ll get you into the game malarky” is a secondary feature in my eyes - yes the teams will come up on them at some point during the time you are in the ground - but potentially advertising for 2 hours in front of the whole world, given how many games are televised / highlights etc , that will be a money earner for the club , we may just attract some bigger fish with this type of tech too.

I'm not the greatest fan of those LED signs but if it can bring in extra revenue it can only be a good thing. It looks a lot more aesthetically pleasing and clean too.
Maybe just from personal experience but I wonder how many of those advertisement boards were actually still being paid for. I remember advertising on the Turf back in the Tom Skelly era and he'd left our sign up way into the following season despite the end of the contract. We had to remind him to take it down

I'm pretty sure of one thing. If the money generated by better advertising helps us to bring in better players, the moaners on here might just change their minds. Let's be honest, as well as Garlick did for the club, we did need a bit of a shake up and fresh ideas. Hopefully, this is just the start of lots of new innovation.

I'm 73 and I'm all for it. We can't continue to live in the past. Onwards and upwards Clarets.

I can't imagine we'd be bringing these boards unless they would bring greater profit.

Suspect they'll pay for themselves.

On the subject of the Turf Moor Heroes Boards around the ground, I've been in contact with the club on this and they are going to get back to me.
Any feedback Tony ?
