Training ground new pitches

Post by Quickenthetempo » Wed May 12, 2021 2:23 pm

Just been down Grove lane on the bike and noticed some work being done for new pitches at the training ground. Sand all over shop.
The sand has been laid about 3 pitches away from the building so I don't know if they're expanding for the Ladies teams or just replacing existing pitches?

Does anyone know anything?

I've never been to Barnfield (other than the car park for a sneaky look). Would be interested to know from anyone in the know how it compares from a facilities perspective to other clubs and whether further investment is planned?

In terms of the new pitches, I believe they are for the women’s team.

Regarding the facilities. I don’t think I’ve visited any other Premier League training ground, and I know some cost considerably more, but the facilities we gave down at Gawthorpe now are outstanding.

I always live in hope that because Gawthorpe really is Dyche's baby it will be one of the reasons he stays here,, especially now it seems as though he has a positive working relationship with the owners.

Similar to Tony in that I haven't been to any other club's training ground but a small group from Accy Clarets had a guided tour from Barry Kilby just prior to the facilities opening and it was very impressive.

I've seen City's, we did a tour of the Etihad complex for my son's birthday present and as you'd expect their set up is a whole new level of impressive.

From what I've seen and read about ours we have plenty to be proud of and boastful about though.

Dyche said to mate of mine on a tour of Gawthorpe, only City had better facilities.

I think Leicester set the standards now though.

Saw plenty of Spurs facility on Netflix doc. Looked like a 5 star hotel/resort to me. Also seen Barnfield on tv. Looked equally impressive

All the pitches are stripped and re-seeded every yr at barnfield ,last yr being the exception due to COVID ,most pitches had little use as academy teams not allowed to play there, academy teams u9-u15 been playing at lancs fa padiham and nelson .

It's around 15 months since I was last at Gawthorpe but every time I go down now I just take a look around and see how fantastic the whole place is. When Steve Cotterill used the bonus money from the TV games v Liverpool and Blackburn in 2005 on a new pitch it was the only pitch worthy of the name. Now, immaculate pitches all over the place, some Desso, one under soil heated and then the facilities inside the building are incredible.

I've gone through City's on the tram and, as you would expect, it's at another level, but ours is something to be really proud of.

Are the sandy pitches our advance planning for the new Afro/Arabic super league?

I've been to three of Spurs facilities, Brookfield Farm Cheshunt, Dollis Hill and Chigwell (they've moved on from Chigwell). Also Arsenal's at London Colney as I knew one of the Groundsmen.

Each of Spurs ones was an improvement on the other but I wasn't especially impressed with Chigwell. All were near busy roads, especially Chigwell and Cheshunt, which to me doesn't seem appropriate when lots of deep breathing is required.

Arsenal's old training grounds at London Colney were the University of London pitches. Their new facilities built in 1999 on agricultural land were very open - no trees etc. so windy but the facilities were top notch. I saw it just after completion. All the pitches we looked at were like carpet, so dense and perfect was the grass. Two of the pitches were said to be exactly like Highbury (as they used at the time), with drainage and undersoil heating the same (couldn't see much point of that as there was no stadium etc.). They also had indoor facilities including a proper swimming pool which Len Fairclough/Peter Adamson would have loved as it had observation glasses at various places underwater. All in all it was impressive and I'm sure it's matured since then.
