I was really surprised to see only 3 clubs have had a one season wonder. I "felt" it was more tbh. And West Ham are only 4 off a full house surprised me too.

Man City are only 4th on that list, I'll bet that will be a surprise to any younger fans, and I note we've now overtaken the mighty Derby, and many of those on that list won't be adding to their totals anytime soon, so we could well find ourselves slowly climbing up that table in the coming years.

Just shows which clubs are actually established compared to those who claimed they were before they dropped out.
Enjoy our time in the sun, that table shows it won't last forever

I know it's 22 years ago now but we played City in what's now League One and three years later in what's now the Championship.tiger76 wrote: βThu May 13, 2021 5:40 pmMan City are only 4th on that list, I'll bet that will be a surprise to any younger fans, and I note we've now overtaken the mighty Derby, and many of those on that list won't be adding to their totals anytime soon, so we could well find ourselves slowly climbing up that table in the coming years.

Re: Premier League seasons by club
Indeed we did, and many on that list have experienced life in the 3rd tier or even lower since, so the fact we've not been outside the top 2 divisions in over 20 years is testament to the management and directors during that period.ClaretTony wrote: βThu May 13, 2021 6:23 pmI know it's 22 years ago now but we played City in what's now League One and three years later in what's now the Championship.

We've been in the PL for nearly a 3rd of it's existence...
...I can hardly still believe we're in it!

Re: Premier League seasons by club
A sixth straight season is great - the target now must be ten and hopefully we can push away from the possibility of relegation battles a little.
I wonder what Mr Paceβs aims are in this respect.

Re: Premier League seasons by club
Now, now DCWat you should know the mantra by now, one season at a time.
Regarding a relegation battle we can never totally discount such a prospect well we remain in the Prem, but we can take steps to lessen that prospect, and a good transfer window would go a long way to ensuring we're far more likely to retain our place at the top table for a few more seasons at least.
Re: Premier League seasons by club
What that table shows is that there are only six clubs that can be certain that they will still be in the Pl at the end of every season. All the others are in a relegation battle at the start of each season. Those claret fans who seem to delight in predicting Burnley's eventual relegation as though they are telling us something we don't know might well reflect on the fact that there are the vast majority of PL clubs in the same situation.

I'm not sure it shows that anyway. Two clubs, City and Chelsea, have had enormous amounts of money thrown at them for no obvious financial gain. It's quite possible that could happen to other clubs. The same of course happened for our good friends down the road except he was a real club fan.
Everton have diced with the relegation positions at times and Liverpool once made an awful start. There's hope yet for those that don't like the self appointed 'big clubs' who set this whole thing up in the first place!

Re: Premier League seasons by club
Has anyone got such a table for tier 1 to tier 4 since the league was first formed?
We cannot be far from having spent the majority of our time in the top flight, are we?

Re: Premier League seasons by club
Here's a question - who would you say is the "biggest" club not on that list?
For me, given their history, I have to say it would be Preston. The other two contenders would probably be Bristol City and Millwall.

Re: Premier League seasons by club
Some of the clubs on the list have fallen on seriously hard times.
Re: Premier League seasons by club
We have spent 58 years (according to this site) in the top division since the Football league was formed and are 21st on the all time list.2 Bee Holed wrote: βFri May 14, 2021 9:10 amHas anyone got such a table for tier 1 to tier 4 since the league was first formed?

Re: Premier League seasons by club
So, deluded Watford ARE our equals
Then, you look at the number of years spent in the top flight. Watford 13, Clarets 58
Deluded !
Re: Premier League seasons by club
I think that is the point. Most clubs are going to go down eventually and we're one of them. Every season is, realistically, going to start as a relegation battle.claret59 wrote: βFri May 14, 2021 12:03 amWhat that table shows is that there are only six clubs that can be certain that they will still be in the Pl at the end of every season. That site led me to a fact that suprised me, because I can't remeber it (or did I try and forgfet it?).
Can we name the Cameroonian who scored for Burnley in the Premier League?

Re: Premier League seasons by club
When we went up in 2009 no one would have considered Man City to be bigger than Everton as they had only been taken over in 2008.
If Newcastle get taken over by the Saudi Arabians then they are also likely to be added to the list of clubs unlikely to go down in the foreseeable future.

I didn't think it was necessary to caveat it with "unless we are taken over by a nation state that is willing to spend billions" but yes, that is an exception.Spijed wrote: βFri May 14, 2021 10:47 amWhen we went up in 2009 no one would have considered Man City to be bigger than Everton as they had only been taken over in 2008.

Unless, of course, we're all taken over by billionaires. Three teams will still have to go down in the end.Spijed wrote: βFri May 14, 2021 10:47 amWhen we went up in 2009 no one would have considered Man City to be bigger than Everton as they had only been taken over in 2008.

Notts County over Millwall, I'd think.CardiffClaret wrote: βFri May 14, 2021 9:25 amHere's a question - who would you say is the "biggest" club not on that list?

Anyhow, there must be something wrong with that list. Aren't Bolton 10 years ahead of us?
