Norton Safe Search

Post by boatshed bill » Thu May 13, 2021 6:08 pm

Looks like Norton has crashed on my PC.
Anyone know how to deal with this?
Any help would be appreciated

I had a recent update which would not complete installation and subsequently couldn't run. Restarting my computer enabled it to fix itself.
Maybe worth a try.

Agreed. I'd just remove it (and any other part of the Norton suite). You don't need it.

Uninstall it Bill, Norton uses a lot of capacity on your computer according to my PC repairing mate, he installs Webroot.

And pretty hard to get rid of all the elements, I think there's a generic thing to download (Norton Removal Tool) from what I remember.

Here it is:

Thanks for all the advice.
We've always had Norton, it's £98 p.a. these days!
In the end I just restored to an earlier date...which worked fine.

Exactly this. Anything Norton (except motorcycles) is complete rubbish. I was a Microsoft MVP Windows security and the amount of infected computers using Norton/Symantec programs was incredible, some had crashed the system completely and had to be reformatted. Windows Defender is all you need along with ATF-Cleaner, freeware and a lot more powerful than Ccleaner.

With ATF-Cleaner it doesn't need installing you run it from the desktop. Check everything then uncheck COOKIES.

Cheers Bob, only reason I mentioned ccleaner is because it’s what we use at work. Will take a look at ATF cleaner

They've always been crap. My eldest son used to work at Symantec on the help lines and the amount of problems they had which they just had to blag the customer with was incredible.
