Re: FA Cup Final.
Equally you would be gutted to lose an FA cup final for an incorrect offside call. Although I’m sure most fans would be happy for a situation like that to be classed as level.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 7:04 pmand that's why players will stop celebrating goals, correct decision but it could end up completely killing the game

Haha. Good old VAR. If yiur level your off. Lose to City and Tuchel will pribably get the Russian elbow.

Looked completely level to me. But I’m also not in to all this toes offside lark either. The game is about scoring goals and the advantage should be given to the attacker in my opinion.

Definitely agree with someone above and was somewhat caught by surprise when I came out in goosebumps as the crowd erupted at the ball hitting the net. I hadn't realised how long it had been!!! Brilliant!

Re: FA Cup Final.
Yes both boys were born at the Royal Hospital in Leicester, and they saw their first games when about 5 years old in the Heskey/Savage era. Much as I tried they are not clarets. Got to say they are my "second club" and so much to admire about the way they are run. With so much unrest today from fans vented at the faceless owners of the top clubs, the LCF owner has done so much for the club, the local community, hospitals and university. Their recruitment of players is something to admire. I am so pleased they beat CHEQUE BOOK CHELSEA

There’s a lot to like about Leicester these days. If they were born there then they have to support them, quite rightly too.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 7:42 pmYes both boys were born at the Royal Hospital in Leicester, and they saw their first games when about 5 years old in the Heskey/Savage era. Re: FA Cup Final.
It wasn't difficult, particularly if you have been an official, however, with all the restrictions being place on when to flag the whole situation is becoming almost impossible.
Five offsides were not given in the Brighton v Hammers game tonight purely and simply because a goal was not scored! Had a goal been scored they would all have been written off! They are making a simple game very complicated at the top level and the introduction of two more opinions does not help at all.

Re: FA Cup Final.
I bet the VAR people are thrilled. If VAR was just to correct mistakes, that would be mundane. But for VAR to disallow a last minute FA Cup Final equaliser, that would have been perfectly legal two years ago - that's special. That's how VAR can prove itself more important than the game itself.
We have the game of football, and we have the game of VAR and the game of VAR has won today.
Re: FA Cup Final.
I'm not even sure that the five "offsides" actually count as offside. As far as I know, the linesmen are still flagwaving on the basis that level is onside. When it's too close to call, it's onside. VAR of course is working on the basis that there is no such thing as level, which (in spite of what they try to tell us) is a change of the rule.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 10:33 pmIt wasn't difficult, particularly if you have been an official, however, with all the restrictions being place on when to flag the whole situation is becoming almost impossible.

So if two players are level and a goal is not scored, it is onside. If two players are level and a goal is scored, the "level does not exist" rule comes into play and VAR has to make its best guess as to who is the fraction of the inch nearer the goal line.

BBC commentator and Jenas said “you can’t see that with the naked eye”, “a hairs breadth” and “millimetres”

I can just about accept he might’ve been leaning an inch offside but his feet (which he played the ball with), didn’t look offside. All this armpit, kneecap stuff is just a nonsense to me.

Re: FA Cup Final.
Agreed. Under the law as it was written in 1990, these two players are clearly level and the goal would have been given. I do not understand why VAR makes such a point of wanting to disallow goals which were legal until two years ago, and in other divisions are legal still.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 11:32 pmI must be watching a different game to you and Vegas.

Re: FA Cup Final.
Here's the same image with the ball
Chilwell is running at full speed. It looks to me like the ball has already left the foot of the passer. A player can travel about 14cm between VAR frames. Here's one from earlier in the season that's very similar.
It's utterly ludicrous to be using an imprecise technology to make precise decisions.
I wanted Leicester to win so found it quite funny at the time but with hindsight I'm not sure I watch football for the hilarity of decisions made by someone sat in a portacabin at Stockley Park. I think I'd rather be left with a sense of frustration that Chelsea got back into it.
