I didn’t think there was a great deal wrong with that performance.
Leeds haven’t dominated like the shoreline suggests. Just far more purposeful going forward. One or touches, pass, keep the move going, with pace and fluidity. Something we really need to be better at.
Vydra equalises to make it 1-1 and it’s a completely different game. Same with Gudmundsson and his 1v1, score and we’re back in it.
If McNeil wants to play more central then he needs to start playing with his right foot more.
Simply, Leeds showed us how to attack and finish.
We go again.

Strange one wasn’t it.
Quite a bizarre score line really.

Re: Small Details
Aside from 10 minutes at the beginning of each half, I thought that there was quite a lot wrong with that performance.
There were some poor individual displays and we rolled over towards the end, which is not very Burnley like.

Re: Small Details
Flattering score line but there was a big hole in the middle of the pitch which Leeds duly exploited. Dyche probably should have reacted and gone 4-5-1 instead of replacing both strikers.

Re: Small Details
Leeds were obviously the better side but agree it was an odd scoreline. Lots of over sensitivity around today whether that be those being way over the top with their criticism, or at the other end of the scale those complaining about the ref, the commentator and the behaviour of the Leeds players.
Re: Small Details
Agree with this - outnumbered and gaping hole in the middle of the park today...the most noticeable thing.

Re: Small Details
Second goal kills it. Up to then we were in it albeit second best. No way at this stage of the season and safe would we put in the kind of effort/intensity needed to come in from 0-2 down. Going through the motions from then. A result of no importance
Re: Small Details
I think it’s time for a serious think about moving away from 4-4-2.

Leeds supporters may think this goes some way to extinguishing the pain of the 4-1 home defeat in 1974

Being a claret living in West Yorkshire with the pubs allowed to reopen might views things differently with the banter thrown about, 0-4 nil away from home isn’t good whatever spinCulmclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 2:39 pmSecond goal kills it. Re: Small Details
Don’t think it’s necessarily the 4-4-2 - for example we’ve looked good at Wolves and Fulham recently with the two forwards causing all sorts of trouble.
We’ve got an aging squad so when we face teams like Leeds who pop it around quickly plus press very quick, we struggle a lot to play out of the press. We just aren’t quick or dynamic enough especially in the middle.
Desperately need some extra dynamism in there as well as creativity - biggest priority signings for me this summer.
Re: Small Details
Exactly. The marks have punished the scoreline, rather than the performance. They got a lucky 2nd and that made it very difficult. We had great chances.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 2:29 pmI didn’t think there was a great deal wrong with that performance.

We do and can turn in some good performances in a 4-4-2 but the ease at which teams can tear through is, if we’re anything but at 100%, seems to be becoming more frequent.
Re: Small Details
I don’t think there was a big hole as such. Our high press was always going to be dangerous against Leeds because they break with real purpose.
I’ve no issue with that, because on another day we may get 2 or 3 from today, and get something from the game.
We created a lot today but just didn’t have the quality in those final moments
Edit- the only way we stop that susceptibility to the counter is by going three in the middle and keeping a screening midfielder back, which we’re never going to do.

Re: Small Details
We’ve played 3 midfielders with some success in the past and even quite recently at Old Trafford. It’s clearly not Dyche’s favourite way to set up but it shouldn’t be ruled out when the occasion suits. We could have shuffled things around to address this when 2-0 down today and I don’t think the beating would have been as heavy.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 2:49 pmI don’t think there was a big hole as such. Re: Small Details
We lost 0 - 4
And it could have been more
Until we get some strength and pace in the central midfield area things will not improve
With Liverpool chasing Euro spot I see something similar if not worse on Weds

Re: Small Details
Bar the 1st 10 minutes Leeds completely dominated the game, the OP says otherwise, I don't know what game he was watching.
We need to sort out our midfield and recruit a player with legs who can pick a pass and play a bit of football. Brownhill is useless on the ball and Cork is getting passed it

Re: Small Details
When teams break on us we seem to just keep falling back without coming onto the attacking players. They are then in or around our penalty area without challenge. Seems to be a theme over the last few months.
Liverpool will play havoc if we don’t sort this.

Liverpool have a poor defence that's their Achilles sit back and we get hammered, attack and we are in with the chance of a double against them

Re: Small Details
fella got the ball in his own half, ambled up to the edge of the box and unleashed. That's backing off. Pope or not its gonna cost. If we'd equalised, 1-1 into 2nd half might have put a different spin on it. 4-0 is annoying, thought we deserved that against Wolves who were sheeeeeeitt. Annoying even at this stage of the season as we could (not necessarily would) have got something from this game. This is where those who can be bothered look back and say there's another 1-3 points we could have amassed. Hey Ho, on to the bin dippers....

Re: Small Details
Thought if anything it showed yet again where our recruitment priorities lie over the summer in midfield players with pace who can also move the ball quickly. Nothing that surely isn’t obvious to the manager.

Re: Small Details
They've nobody to move the ball too as we have a CM playing totally out of position on right and Dwight looking woefully out of form on the left, for me he needs to switch to the right and JBG comes back in.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 9:57 pmThought if anything it showed yet again where our recruitment priorities lie over the summer in midfield players with pace who can also move the ball quickly. If a player is allowed run 40yds with ball and both our centre half's back off
( and not for the first time this season) in this division you will get punished more tomes than not with quality of player.Go to player ... tackle him or foul him
