sick to death of ex-players punditry

I know there's plenty non-football topics to justifiable moan about but:
today on TV coverage they had CarriGrrrrrr, Souness and Rednapp all offering their 'unbiased' comments on...er Liverpool!
Where was the ex-WBA player or God forbid an ex-Claret when we're playing...Fletcher, Casper even Blake would give some balance!
I feel there's too many offering opinions from pitch-side, TV studio and even in the changing rooms but surely (if we've got to have pundits) it would be better for the neutral to have non-biased comments!

You must have been fuming about the studio guests for our game yesterday

Yep - whatever were BT thinking of by putting these 2 as pundits for our game yesterday?

Carragher does Liverpool/Everton games.
Neville does Utd/City.
Alan Smith does Arsenal/Leicester.
All totally unbiased of course.

If they had any insight at all it would help, but they just state the blindingly obvious and struggle with their grammar

An ex-Claret & a Burnley fan yesterday.
Souness is excellent though.

I've long given up watching anything but the game itself.
Even then, the commentary is so biased, I wish I could turn that off too!

Have a listen to Joey Barton with Phil Bird on the Leeds game, he is absolutely spot on.

What chuckles me is how they all just follow the bandwagon. Like fawning over Mason Mount. He seems to be the latest darling of the pundits, taking over from Declan Rice. Once one or two of them start raving over someone the rest just follow. Very few offer much insight. I agree Souness is good and doesn't allow his own opinion to be influenced by the hyperbole. Other than that the only ones who offer a contrary view tend to be the Savages and Suttons who just say anything to draw attention to themselves.

She was dreadful. She clearly knew the Leeds team well but knew nothing about our side so just trotted out the usual pre-determined comments about how we play etc. Hopeless.

You can, you just simply mute the volume it’s standard when I’m viewing I prefer silence to waffle.

Yep, it was Burnley Bingo - organised, physical, direct, aggressive, long ball, route one, etc, etc. It's a shame that the managers in the PL don't read the same stuff, every game would be a walkover.

After some unfair doubt I'm well and truly on that bandwagon too, Mount is an incredible talent. One of the very best young talents in Europe atm.

It's so irritating how Sky only cover the ''big 6'', they spend an hour before a game talking about Man United and Liverpool when neither are playing. How about lets discuss the upcoming game.....
The Sky mob were quick to shut down the Super League though, ''how dare the big 6 make a power grab''
it's literally Sky massaging the big 6s ego, Sky select big 6 teams on every week, Sky have well and truly based the entire division about 6 clubs. Sky are one of the biggest reasons these 6 clubs tried to breakaway and form a Super League, Sky complimented them so much, they felt so big and powerful and tried to screw the rest.

He's tidy enough but not seen anything to suggest he is an "incredible" talent. Grealish far better but he won't start for England because Southgate will just follow the media hullabaloo.

head and shoulders Chelsea's best player this season, I think Grealish is a great player too. I'd have Mount Foden Grealish behind Kane in the Euros.

Hope he proves me wrong. I'd have the same but with Sterling instead of Mount. Certainly plenty of exciting options. Just a worry that we hardly seem to have played our strongest side going into a tournament. Unlike Belgium who know their best 11 very well. But that's way off topic for this thread!

Well just wait for the euros. Half time in netherlands v Sweden will inevitably be wasted showing pictures of the outside of the England hotel and a pathetic story of how maguire has complained that he can't sleep because his head is too big for the nasty square European pillows and that declan rice has been ruled out with an ingrowing eyelash.
Hopefully, that nonsense will all be over after 3 games this time out.

The best for me are the rugby union pundits on Channel 5 on a Minday night.
They bounce off one another with knowledge, good humour with no one side favoured over another.
I always feel I am having a pint after the game listening to two blokes who know the game and talk sense.

Although not an ex-player, the late David Coleman, when talking about the art of commentary said the importance of knowing when to speak and when to keep quiet was paramount. In a different sport, the great Richie Benaud made a similar comment.

Can only imagine what he thinks of Martin Tyler then.

It's fairly simple, don't listen to them. I only turn the match on when it kicks off and turn it off at the final whistle. I make a cup of tea at half time. Haven't watched MOTD for years due entirely to having to listen to so called experts give their opinions. Simples
