(BBC) Roy Hodgson stepping down as Palace manager.

Not really a surprise.

I wonder if they’ll come in for Dyche after they sack Lampard in November

Here's hoping. It may also shed a little light on Dyche's current situation here. I may be putting 2 and 2 together here and coming up with 5 but we know that the Palace owner is a huge Dyche fan, CT has dropped hints that Dyche could stay and with Roy stepping down you would imagine that Palace would have enquired about Dyche so if the rumours are true about them being in talks with FL then i'm hoping it could mean Dyche will stay with us and sign a new contract.

Simply a case of Dyche gets investment he stays or if he doesn’t ( which would be scandalous) he goes . Superb manager who deserves better than shoestring budgets . That said, Palace is a tricky gig for anyone

A lot of players out of contract so the new manager will have a clean slate to work from and not average players on astronomical wages, add that to any Zaha money and i can see the appeal. A big job though.

I cant see Palace taking a chance on Dyche unless Hodgson was going to stay on in a director of football role to guide Dyche. If Roy is leaving altogether I think they will want someone who has experience of success at more than just one club.

Good news for us though as if we lose Dyche we are screwed

...yeah but Frank “I failed at Chelsea” Lampard who is current favourite wouldn’t need a mentor as director of football I guess...?

If Palace don't come in for him and appoint Frank, will posters finally stop worrying to death about him leaving every 2 months?

Nobody has come in for him in his 8 years here yet.

Palace would sort of suit him but if they don't come in then there isn't a bigger club in the premier league that will.

Maybe a Celtic or Rangers if we get relegated.

Be more inclined to think Cooper at Swansea would be their choice if Swansea fail in the play offs.

I don't want to lose Dyche at all and if he goes I have no idea who we would get, but i am sure there would be some decent applicants. But what will be will be, the club will survive without him and i'm not convinced if he goes we will go down. We will probably finish 17th this season and for large parts of it we have been rotten to watch.

If an FA cup final and qualification into the Champions league is considered failure by Palace then they will do well to find any manager. I think Lampard would be a very good fit for Palace and if I was a Palace fan id want him ahead of Dyche.

If it was a Roy & Dyche combo I might think differently

If they go for Dyche, it's because they don't want to take a chance. He's an experienced Premier League manager these days, who has proven he can keep a fairly average group of players in the division every year. Pretty sure he doesn't need Roy to hold his hand.

The turnover at Palace was about 7m more than at Burnley for 2020. They've just made a loss of 58m. They now have 48m in liabilities and a massive rebuilding job to do. In 2020 their wage bill was 121m,ours was 100m. Both were for a 13 month accounting period. If ours is a shoe string budget how would you describe theirs? It's not much of a step up.

For me Dyche's next step should be to try and win some sort of silverware or qualify repeatedly in Europe. He needs to manage some big egos and a bigger squad if he's ever going to get near a top job.

Outside of the top 7 I'd understand him leaving for Leeds, Everton, West Ham or Aston Villa because they are all teams who have more potential to challenge the "super powers" as Dyche likes to call them. I can't see Palace giving him a better chance of progress. Not to mention it being a pain to get to and from.

Why the hell would Dyche need the guidance of Roy Hodgson?

Hodgson is a top manager but Dyche wouldn't need to be overseen at any club

Burnley’s re build is just as big as Palace’s rebuild if not bigger.

An extra 20 million on wages is a substantial amount, that’s 8 players on 50K a week, it’s rumoured our top earner is on 50K a week.

The finances available at Palace would definitely attract Dyche. As other posters have already said the aim at Burnley will either be to increase revenue by 20-25m or reduce player wages. Either way Palace have substantially better resources than us.

I said it earlier imagine if Dyche was given a transfer budget and better wage cap at Palace, he could build his new team around some top talent in Zaha, Eze, Milijovic, Kouyate, Ayew

Perhaps Roy's best achievement was taking Fulham to the Europa League final in 2010.

He also did a great job at Rovers paving the way for Kiddo and the Rubber Dinghy Men.

Striker who barely scores.

As for the rebuild here being bigger than Palace, stop being such a drama queen.

Palace potentially need a dozen players this summer and Zaha could well be off depending on who the manager is.

We need half a dozen max

Fair play to Hodgson, he's had a solid career, albeit came up short at Ewood (which is a credit to him) Anfield and as England boss.

Dyche is drifting with the bookmakers already. Lamps odd on favourite.

I don’t agree, the players that are leaving are the deadwood.
They also have some young players coming through into the first team like Mitchell. They would have to sign 2-3 squad players and a couple of first team players to have a really strong squad.

That’s very similar to Burnley except we haven’t got any youth coming through. In 12 months time half of our first team squad is out of contract. With the likes of Tarks, Mee, Cork, Jay Rod, Stephens, Barnes, Brady, Vydra leaving our squad will be decimated.

Zaha is comparable to Tarks. Both very important players wanting out.

Firstly well done to Roy on a fabulous career in numerous countries, and he's done a good job at Palace, pleased for him that he'll at least get a well deserved send off tomorrow against Arsenal. and it's fitting that his swansong will be at Anfield.

Regarding SD and this vacancy it appears that Frankie Lampard is the firm favourite, which if true would represent a radical change of approach by the Palace board, Sean would have been the continuity candidate, and his style isn't that dissimilar to Roy Hodgson, whereas Lampard is probably a more attacking coach, so if he takes the reins at Selhurst Park we may see a more entertaining Palace team next season.

The last time Palace tried going for a more pleasing on the eye type of football with DeBoer it failed in part because the vast majority of players were neither suited for or convinced by it - This time the sheer numbers required to replenish the Palace squad gives them more flexibility, though still has issues with settling a team mentality and spirit - to me that sounds more like an experienced manager requirement, particularly one who has a reputation for quickly developing team spirit. too many of us that would put Dyche at the forefront of their thinking, particularly given Palace have previously showed that they are more committed to the now of Premier League membership rather than to a long term strategy, like Norwich and to a lesser extent ourselves.

It would suggest that going for a Lampard is not the likely approach. However, they have made significant moves on the Academy front, they have one of the richest pools of young talent in the country on their doorstep, and want to be at the forefront of bringing that talent to the Premier League, which suggests having a manager prepared to put young and talented players at the centre of his plans, but also a playing style that attracts those youngsters. There is also the fact that Palace have long held ground expansion plans, with quite a bit of added corporate hospitality, the kind of people that in the main want to see "attractive football". It could be argued that the large number of player contracts ending at the same time as the managers, shows that some real strategic planning has been put in place to have a proper go at changing style. That puts Lampard back in the frame, as it does with Howe, perhaps more so, though he is still being heavily linked with Celtic.

Dyche is admired by Palace that is well known, but I think strategically the signs are that Palace want to go in a different direction, they have an obsession with Brighton and this all echoes what they have done to a large extent. What they will do if it starts badly next season is the really interesting question, though by then you would expect the Dyche situation to be resolved one way or another with us.

Brady goes this summer, but he won't be missed.
Tarks may well be off this summer, he will be the hardest to replace.

We need to replace Brady, Dunne, potentially Tarks and at a stretch Pope.
Stephens is another that hasn't or won't be missed but I don't really know what's planned with him.

Half a dozen max this year, contracts etc will be extended for some like Vyds if he's still first choice this summer and Mee will certainly be offered and I suspect he will stay.

Palace have a real urgency this summer, far bigger than anything we have, especially if they don't get those 12 to sign new deals and Zaha goes.

I don't really care if Dyche wants to take a sideways step, he can go. I'd be relatively excited by the unknown, the only problem is the new owners lack of finance has plunged us into unmanageable debt in the Championship so we need a safe as possible approach which means begging Dyche to stay.

Only 4 of the 12 players have featured on a semi regular basis. It’s rumoured they are only looking to recruit between 4-6 players this summer. As I mentioned they already have a couple of ready made replacement with the youth coming through.

Knowhere near as a big of a job as our fan base is making out.

Lampard failed at Derby and sacked at Chelsea! Perfect man for the CP job in my opinion.
If Derby fans view Frank Lampard as a failure for taking them to a Wembley play-off final it would be interesting to know their thoughts on Phillip Cocu (Cock Up) and Wayne Rooney.

I don't really care if Dyche wants to take a sideways step, he can go. I'd be relatively excited by the unknown, the only problem is the new owners lack of finance has plunged us into unmanageable debt in the Championship so we need a safe as possible approach which means begging Dyche to stay.
What experience do we have now of recruiting a manager?

If Roy is leaving altogether I think they will want someone who has experience of success at more than just one club.
Mr Dyche was, in a short time, successful at Watford too.

Only 4 of the 12 players have featured on a semi regular basis. It’s rumoured they are only looking to recruit between 4-6 players this summer. As I mentioned they already have a couple of ready made replacement with the youth coming through.

Knowhere near as a big of a job as our fan base is making out.
Bigger than the work required here yet you're making it out to be a massive job here

If taking a club from 14th in the Championship to 11th in the Championship is considered a good measure of success by Palace then I imagine they have a pretty large Wishlist to choose from

Ayew?
Striker who barely scores.

As for the rebuild here being bigger than Palace, stop being such a drama queen.

Palace potentially need a dozen players this summer and Zaha could well be off depending on who the manager is.

We need half a dozen max
There's a reason Zaha is still at Palace, spends too much time on his arse, doesn't work hard enough. He'd fall out with Dyche in the first 10 minutes

I think they were struggling before eventually achieving their mid table position and temp stability.

The 41-year-old had been in charge since June 2011 and last season led them to 11th place in the Championship, their highest finish for four years.

6th, 13th, 16th, 14th and then 11th to me says Dyche did well for his first season as a manager but if this is considered as success to put on your CV then you could make a case for most managers being a success.

Dyche's unimaginable success has been with us but do Palace want to take the risk that he isnt just a one hit wonder Im not convinced.

I believe the club is bigger than all employees, I also believe football is just cycles, good and bad, highs and lows.
I will remain a fan of this club regardless of manager or division and I also believe no player/manager should be begged to stay, I want players/managers here, who want to be here.

The unfortunate part is the takeover has left us in huge debt, we desperately need PL football for a couple more years for the income which means we need to take the safest possible approach, beg and grovel for Dyche to remain for stability.

If Dyche is to go, I like Jokanovic, Benitez, Valerien Ismael, Lampard.
