Chris Wood offside

He was given offside last night when we should have had a free kick on the edge of their box for a high foot, when he was actually 5 yards on.

Has there ever been a worse offside call?

Officials were pretty weak last night - Robertson jumped on Lowton from behind which was definitely a card IMO.

Why did VAR not review it? It was a clear and obvious error.

I like that lass with the ponytail running a line, she’s fantastic at offside calls, but how did she miss Williams handball. It was directly in front of her.

I’ll see your wood offside and raise you Dunn scoring whilst almost stood by the keeper

Just the refs way of not having to give a FK for dangerous play! Whisper to lino, "Flag". Sorted!

Dunn was a yard off, not 5 on.

because var can only get involved in a very limited set of circumstances and that wasn't one of them. if it had led to a goal then maybe.

The replay showed he ran past about 3 or 4 Liverpool players AFTER the ball had been passed. It wasn't even close.

I’ve just found it on the recording.

There are six Liverpool players, including Alisson, who are all behind him. Wood must be at least onside by five yards. It’s an incredible decision.

Decisions like that last night really do suggest that the rumours of corruption may have credence it was one of the worst I have witnessed in a long while.

I thought the offside was given against Brownhill (?) earlier in the move? That was much closer.

Was there also an incident with 2 balls on the pitch or did I dream it?

Taylor had the "real" ball, and everyone (on both sides) sorted of slowed down and stopped whilst Mee kicked the 2nd ball out, before Taylor continued with the other ball.

It didn't affect anything but I don't think it was done "by the book"?

That was my understanding, and the commentators too. Although when paused it looked level, not that there’s any such thing anymore.

Agreed but the ball went nowhere near him and he made no attempt to go after it.

It was a very poor decision. It should have been a free kick for dangerous play, however, it was the wrong team who were sinned against!

Yes, there were two balls on the pitch at one time but Ben Mee kicked it off very quickly and play carried on.

Just watching it again. Liverpool clear the ball with no suggestion of offside and you can see the lino showing no interest. The clearance finds Tarkowski who plays it forward to Wood. At this point Brownhill is close to being offside but obviously not active. Wood gets through and after the high kick the lino then flags. Can only be for Wood and it’s a shocker of a decision.

Very true and I couldn't believe a PL ref allowed Ben Mee to kick the spare ball out of play whilst Taylor had the other one "in play" and he didn't stop the game!! It was definitely on a par with Wood's ludicrous offside decision, but maybe liners have just got used to Wood being pretty much permanently offside so they simply flag anyway!!! ;)

Let's get this right....are we actually saying that a Prem ref should give Burnley a FK in a really dangerous goalscoring place, when a players head is nearly removed from his neck?

Show me them Prem rule which says a referee has to compromise a desired outcome (Liverpool winning and thus setting up a last day interest for the prem) and give a correct decision?

Nowhere!

The rule is....everything required to ensure top four is correct top four.

Some people complain about linesman playing on for VAR reviews but this is exactly why they do it. They've stopped doing it as regularly as before because of the stupid complaints.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

It wasn’t a potential penalty. Had it been then VAR would have reviewed it and seen there was no offside.

In the 2 ball incident ref definitely just shrugged his shoulders and motioned for everyone to carry on. A bit “Towneley” but you can’t say it wasnt common sense or affected anything apart from possibly his assessors report.

Plenty of prem ref evidence to the contrary, over many seasons.

I remember when Jack Wiltshire went from Arsenal to Bournemouth. He actually made the point that refs seem to decide differently from when Arsenal were involved.
