New Kits 21/22
Re: New Kits 21/22
It’s actually a good move from the club, and another first, but I was hoping it was going to be the new home kit announcement.

Re: New Kits 21/22
To be honest, I think it is very clever from our chairman. Women's football is meant to be very big in the states, and having asked about TikTok i never realised how big it was. I recall even seeing advertisements for them in the Euros. Part of the strategy seems to be promoting BFC as a brand. I like the idea to be honest, and our mens team is just one component of that brand. Anything that can help spread the good word of BFC around the world can only be a good thing regardless if that vehicle (in this instance being TikTok) is not for us.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:41 amApparently, according to our chairman: "Innovation is a key component to our plans at Burnley and this partnership with a fantastic, progressive brand like TikTok completely fits into our vision for the club’s future and embracing digital audiences."

Regret staying up until midnight now, and perhaps not the announcement we were all expecting, but a very positive one nevertheless. I asked my son last night (who doesn't have tiktok) whether he'd be happy if we were sponsored by them. "No way - its an app for girls" was his reply. Neat therefore, that we've partnered with them for the women's team since presumably that will bring their content to a specific target audience. And overall it's fantastic to see the investment/focus in the womens team.
Interesting that tiktok will only be the sleeve sponsor? Presumably that is so they can align the main shirt sponsors with the mens team?

Out of interest, how did the women’s crest differ from the men’s? Just looked on their Twitter page and the banner has an image of the women from last season and it looks exactly the same?

Re: New Kits 21/22
As a father of a young girl this new deal troubles me, while it is good as a way to promote BFC women’s team I have a mission in life to keep her as far away from that particular social media platform as possible.
Several reasons - largely unregulated, too easy to access dodgy stuff, links to the Chinese State (is data safe etc). She has school friends using it at too young an age and some of the stuff I see I do not agree with.
All of the risks I outline above are commonly acknowledged nowadays, the issue is whether it bothers us as parents.
The bigger question - where do ethics begin and end in the club’s commercial relationships? We’ve discussed gambling, this is another contentious area.

I don’t think the crest itself was any different, but it had “BURNLEY FC WOMEN” around it.

To be honest I don't know anything about TikTok and having seen that short vid on there with Nathan Collins when I took a look last night I don't think I want to know anything about Tiktok.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 10:39 amAs a father of a young girl this new deal troubles me, while it is good as a way to promote BFC women’s team I have a mission in life to keep her as far away from that particular social media platform as possible.

Having said that, it is a concern if some of our supporters have the sort of concerns you have outlined. I understand the gambling issues, and Burnley FC Supporters Groups does have a 'Gambling Issues' team who work alongside some charities. On this one I think I would prefer not to comment because it is something I have no knowledge of but I will ensure the topic is discussed at our meeting next Monday.

It is a strange one, tiktok can be an absolutely great form of social media. But as another poster mentioned there are some very contentious things posted on there, ranging from religion to gambling.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 10:52 amTo be honest I don't know anything about TikTok and having seen that short vid on there with Nathan Collins when I took a look last night I don't think I want to know anything about Tiktok.

For me it is a video form of Reddit.

Could TicTok be a possible shirt sponsor for the men's first team. They've had a big presence in the Euros!

Re: New Kits 21/22
I've never used it so I wouldn't know, but oddly enough my niece told me a few weeks ago that she had posted a totally innocent picture of a night out on there and it had been removed for breaching their terms of use, so they obviously have controls in place (overzealous ones my niece would contest).
I suppose the simple issue is that any social media platform will be subject a minority of idiots posting inappropriate content and parents are right to keep their children away from it, but BFC are seeking to use it as a platform for legitimate and positive content promoting women/women's sport. I cannot see a problem with that at all.

I don't think so. They'd have made them the main sponsor of the women's shirt and announced everything together, if so.LowtonClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 11:20 amCould TicTok be a possible shirt sponsor for the men's first team. They've had a big presence in the Euros!
I think it will be a single sponsor for the mens and womens team.

Re: New Kits 21/22
I'm not sure people are quite understanding the magnitude of this. TikTok is a major international company and Pace and Co. have persuaded them to sponsor our womens team (who aren't even professional). Whether you like TikTok or not it's an impressive feat! There's no mention of the finances involved - they might well have given it away free to get their foot in the door, but I doubt most companies of this magnitude would even have picked the phone up to our old commerical team.
Who knows, by building a relationship with a brand like this it could lead to knock-on effects, maybe sponsoring our main shirt in time.
If this is the sort of contact book Pace and Co. have got, you'd hope we'd be aiming big for the main shirt sponsor.

The same could be expressed about the other platforms particularly facebook/instragram whose user agreements are an atrocious intrusion on peoples rights, particularly the way they have got people reliant on the platform and gradually up date the agreements getting people to give away more and more of themselves.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 10:52 amTo be honest I don't know anything about TikTok and having seen that short vid on there with Nathan Collins when I took a look last night I don't think I want to know anything about Tiktok.

Absolutely. They're on a faster growth trajectory than Facebook and Twitter ever were, it's quite a coup.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:23 pmI'm not sure people are quite understanding the magnitude of this. No more than any other social media site to be fair, the only issue is that data is potentially harvested to the Chinese state, which enraged a particular Wotsit US politician who made his usual threats making more of it than was necessary. Put it this way, if you have a fitness band from any of the Chinese manufacturers (most of them) then your personal (health) data is being collated much more than from TikTok2 Bee Holed wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:51 pmI thought there was 'security issues' around TikTok ? TikTok is not really any different to any other social media platform. All of them involve an element of risk for the user.
TikTok itself is huge with over 1 billion users and as pointed out above is growing at a rapid rate.

It constantly amazes me that people eagerly get involved in anti-lockdown type protests claiming personal freedom but often the same types will freely give themselves away to surveillance like this and particularly things like Alexa, Ring and Nest.Zlatan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 1:36 pmNo more than any other social media site to be fair, the only issue is that data is potentially harvested to the Chinese state, which enraged a particular Wotsit US politician who made his usual threats making more of it than was necessary. Not sure if the American connection is relevant here? Although we seem to be dealing with TikTok UK and them US. Again not sure what difference that makes.
What is very exciting is the pace of change and focus on innovation/technology that AP is bringing to the club. Its very impressive. Some will work, some won't but it's great to see.

The Wrexham deal is a real sensation - but ultimately down to the fact that the owners are prepared to use their own personalities to promote the clubs sponsors- their public persona's are perfect for the medium - the fact that it also promotes the owners media deals relating to the Wrexham takeover is just a win win all round. At the end of the day the football club is just a vehicle for a media venture.

Burnley FC Women and TikTok
Couldn't see a tread on this, but I think it's worth a discussion. We've partnered with TikTok to sponsor the sleeves on the women's team shirt, but more significantly, all women's home games are to be streamed live on the platform. This is interesting because it appears we're also looking at making more digital content and working with content creators to grow the individual platforms of the women's team players (unless I've read it wrong). There's a bit of a mention on the MMT thread about digital inventory, and a post about TikTok being Wrexham's new shirt sponsor (by the way, the number of likes and retweets for that shirt reveal is massive compared to their other tweets), and this all points towards the trend in football to amplify the brand via social media platforms. I'm glad we're looking into this, I think it's interesting. Twitter and Instagram are already huge, but TikTok is growing immensely, and there are folks who think there's some serious money is digital inventory, though I admit I'm still trying to wrap my head around what it is precisely.
Re: Burnley FC Women and TikTok
Have the womens team signed any professional players yet? I thought maybe ALK would've brought in a couple of well known women players from the US to boost it's progress quickly.

I can’t recall our shirts being a copy of any other Umbro shirts last season? Ours were a unique design which is exactly as it should be, I think. Training wear was the same as other Umbro teams though.

The club is gaining 200 - 300 TikTok users a day since the announcement - for now it seems that this is the preferred medium for the women's team - so for an amateur team off season that is not bad at all
