What a limp way to end a poor season.
very, very poor today and the football and set up needs addressing.
I understand 5 in midfield v the big guns, but today we made the worst side in the league ( by far ) look good, and we failed to trouble them all afternoon.
We say it every window it seems but a major overhaul is needed. And at least 2 first team starters, and thsts if none leave.
Thankfully there were 3 dire sides in this league, and thsts arguably saved us.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Norris 4 - looked shaky all game and terrible for the goal
Lowton 5 - started well but struggled for most of the game
Tarkowski 6 - 2nd gear most of the game. Step up man
Dunne 4 - woeful
Taylor 6 (mom) our best of the back 5
Gudmunson 5 - tidy forst 20 but just no threat any more
Cork 5 - good first 20, but awful after they scored
Westwood 5 - ditto
.mcNeill 4 - passenger
Brownhill 5 - decent first 20. Woeful after
Wood 6 - tried hard all game
Vydra 4 - made pretty much zero impact- back to pre 20-21 Matty
Jayrod 3 - awful. Just awful
We were bloody terrible 2nd half and that's happened a lot this season. Like I said on the match thread a Burnley-by-numbers-20/21 game. Bright start. Concede a poor goal. Struggled to get back in the game.
We need at least 1 new wide player (we only have 1 who can really affect a game consistently and right now he's struggling under that pressure), a new CB who is capable of growing into that nee partnership, a new CM to inject some pace and strength (or a player to grow into that role over nex t 18 months), probably a new keeper and a new forward who can contribute more than the paltry return of our non Chris Wood forwards.
We got out of jail this season because Sheffield struggled so badly (despite actually being half decent) which noone expected. Granted if they'd done better they would have taken points from others and I maintain if we had needed points from today we would have been better, but there are some concerning signs for next season if we aren't careful.

A very difficult afternoon, which saw ilus lose to a very poor goalkeeping error.
Blunt up front.
Tired team. Well done for maintaining our prem position, against early odds.
Look forward to a rejuvenated squad of committed players next season.

Norris 3 Hopeless one way ticket to League One please
Lowton 5
Tarkowski 5
Dunne 4 needs the same ticket as Norris
Taylor 4 very poor today
JBG 4
Brownhill 3 what does he offer ?
Cork 3 really weak
Westwood 4
McNeil 4
Wood 5
Vydra 5
Jay Rod nowhere near good enough now taxi please
Dyche 2 negative set up against the worse team. We looked like we’d been on the lash all week. Complete lack of quality, energy, threat, or passing ability. It’s gone very stale.
We look like the relegation team. Truly rotten embarrassing performance and a rotten season bar being in the bottom 3.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Norris 3 cost us the game by being hopeless
Lowton 4 meh
Tarkowski 7 on his own
Dunne 5 bye!!
Taylor 6 meh
Gudmundsson 3 hard to score a player who didn't play
Westwood 6 meh
Cork 6 meh
McNeil 4 so many poor performances this season
Brownhill 3 anonymous
Wood 3 unfair, but how can you score him when he didn't receive a single ball to feet in 94 minutes.
Subs
Vydra 6 better than what was on
Rodriguez 3 gone!
Barnes 0 now just leave, quickly.
Such an utterly embarrassing end to a dreadful season of embarrassing performances.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Norris 5 - quite how he let that shot in I dont know. Honestly I would have saved it. Kicking ok but otherwise not up to standard.
Lowton 6 - thought he played reasonably well, our main threat from wide which says something...
Tarkowski 7* - very little wrong today thought he played well.
Dunne 5 - some good, some really not good. Probably best he departs and gets some regular game time in league one.
Taylor 6 - really solid defensively and a couple of great headers.
Gudmundson 5 - not sure he is really good enough for this level anymore unfortunately. We need another 'true'wide player who can help Dwight with sharing the load creatively.
Cork 4 - slow in possession and constantly chose the wrong option.
Westwood 5 - covered ground well and a couple.of good balls into the box but didnt really get a hold.of the game in there.
Brownhill 5 - worked hard but not sure he has the quality to unlock the defences in that position. More of a box to box, pressing, keep it simple player.
McNeil 4 - needs a rest and we need another creative outlet.
Wood 6 - fed off scraps but worked hard.
Vydra 5 - looked lightweight and naive, like when we first got him.
What a poor way to end the season. Other than 3 of the back 5 and Wood that was very poor indeed and the tactics in the second half were dreadful.
A lot of work to be done over the summer.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Sadly I fear our intentions were made clear when the likes of Bardsley and Long have been given a new contract. We know we're going to find it very difficult (verging on the impossible if previous years are anything to go by) to recruit players.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Some harsh comments about a few players IMHO.
I'm not scoring it because as far as I'm concerned and a few of the players by the look of things, the season ended with the final whistle at Fulham.
Onwards and upwards.

Very poor display. Nothing to whet the appetite for a fresh challenge next season and I think the manager might feel the same way.

Dave is a happy clapper we all know that. Surprised he didn’t give Norris a 8

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Why didnt other teams who only recently guaranteed survival decide that their seasons had " ended " too ?

An awful way to end any season. Leaves a very sour taste over the summer. Mr Pace you have a massive job on your hands to protect your investment. Oh wait I mean to protect our club

Cork is finished as a premier league footballer another sluggish performance.
Tarkowsk and Dunne more to blame than Norris for the goal they both just stood ball watching.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
In reply to Leisure, we conceded 1 goal( imho) all down to Norris.
Imho opinion we should have had a hand ball penalty
Fine lines could have been 1-0 to us
Thought our defence did ok.
On mom thread Norris has lots of votes , which shows we have some very mischievous posters on here.
I admit that I am a very positive person and will not call out abuse against any of our players.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
A predictably below par 'end of season nowt to play for' performance so I'll be generous and give every player 5 except Taylor and Tarks 6.
End of the day it's job done.
EPL survival comfortably secured (points wise) after a very weird season for all but it's plain to see that we're in desperate need of reinforcements next season if we're to have half a chance of staying up again
