Our dead balls

Dreadful all season. Think that’s an area we need to improve.

I wouldn’t say dreadful all season but today they were pretty shocking.

Corners have been excellent, mostly Westwood.

Madge can probably do something about that.

In fairness we have often caused teams problems from corners. I did grind my teeth to dust today when we failed to beat the first man with that 94th minute corner kick with Norris up in attack !! Direct free-kicks have been abysmal with my recollections being of either JBG floating it into the keepers arms or Brownhill aiming at Row Z. When the alleged "wand" of Brady's left foot has been deployed it's been no better either.

Really? Would love to know some stats on goals scored from corners!

It’s the same dead ball tactics as last season - very stale and opponents Know what’s going to happen

What they know we’re going to give it to the keeper or fail to beat the first man???

Our dead ball delivery has been miles off last seasons quality.

Poor season yes....

However, I think when you reflect on all the challenges of injuries, shorter pre-season and our lack of squad- its probably been as good as a season we could have hoped for.

The tactics are the same, the quality has naturally dropped off - please try to understand

They had become a real strength (apart from direct free kicks of course which have been garbage for years, since Blake left) and we always posed as threat, but they've become so awful on so many occasions this season and our 94th minute corner today which was easily cleared by the first man just about summed it up.

I'm with you on this. Last season I'd say Westwood was excellent on the corners but this year it hasn't been as fruitful.

I think it’s free kicks and corners. Last season whenever we got a dead ball situation I’d be expecting us to fashion a chance, but as the season has worn on I’ve become less and less confident.

I think part of it is the quality of the ball but the movements don’t seem that good either. And I can’t remember when we last scored direct from a FK. Generally it’s an area that I’d like to see us improve on, with some different routines and better quality delivery next year.

We have had many different routines from corners this year but the delivery has been average. Westy far better than Dwight. The marking in the PL doesn’t make it easy.
The FKs have been abysmal. Both delivery and shooting.

level of quality needs to improve in pretty much every aspect of our play, not sure of how much more development Dyche can get out of some of the players going forward given their age and experience.

Yes, we can improve our set pieces, not sure how we've managed to get away with Mee pulling off to the back post for so long !!!

Throw-ins - seems to be no plan, understanding or positioning whatsoever. Would be interesting to see any data on our success rate in keeping possession from these. My guess would be 20%.
Dead balls from 30-40 yards out - Same ball in, every time, with everyone local to the 'D'!! Couldn't we spread along the 18 yard line - or, better still, mix it occasionally by putting the ball down the wing to turn the defence and cross from the by-line?

The balls themselves from set pieces, especially corners aren't usually that bad. It's more of a general issue with our players not having a clue how to play when we're in possession and poor variation and lack of creativity.

We always play long free kicks to the far post to our centre backs who are told to head it across the goal but even when we win the first header the second ball usually isn't good enough. That results in losing possession and often a deadly counter. I can't understand why we don't have a man just outside the box in these moments to pick up the loose ball since 99% the time that's where the headed clearance goes.

I also don't understand why we always play the same ball every time. It makes it very predictable and easy to play against. Remember the Stephen Ward goal? Sometimes mixing it up it's what catches out the opposition.

Having players drift into different positions also has it's advantages a man short at corners or out wide for free kicks.

Every set piece we just rely on second balls but we rarely win them. It's easy and predictable to play against.

I also can't understand why we don't play differently with different players on the pitch. At the end with 4 strikers on yes free kicks like that are very dangerous. But with only Wood as our striker is it really wise? And what will Vydra offer in the air?

Sheffield United mixed their play so well that we literally had no clue where the next attack was coming from. Most of this was because McGoldrick who by all means is just an average player really was able to pull strings, make passes, runs and do everything we didn't. A player like that is integral in a 451 system.

Chris Woods header v Wolves with an excellent delivery .
Starting with 5 across midfield and then not tackling Dross Mcgoldrick didn't help
Why Sean didnt play Vyds from the start.?
Sheff Utd have a tall back four who get undone with balls played quickly to feet
Tactics by Sean lost us this game and why Richardson didn't get at least a half is beyond me.A poor end to a very average season.
