Our summer window.
I’d say that this summer has to be one of the biggest summers in our entire history. I don’t even know where to begin with what is needed. We are playing catch up from previous transfer windows and the cracks in the squad are now gaping holes. In my opinion we need to get rid of the following
Norris
Dunne
Brady
Stephens
Barnes
Bardsley.
Some of those have been fantastic servants and it’s with a heavy heart but if the above were to leave, we would need at least the following
1 x cb (as a minimum but would still only have 3 cbs)
1 x cm
2 x wingers
1 x striker
Some of the list on ‘departure list’ should be on there but are not purely because of the sheer numbers we would need to replace them this window (I’m thinking BPF, JBG and Jay). This is before we even think about if tarks or pope leaves.
We all know that for us to get 5 incomings in the summer will be a big ask but it’s the minimum in my opinion. Good luck to the board, SD and the recruitment team. We will need it.

Norris 2023
Stephens 2022
Barnes 2022
Bardsley 2022
Dunne and Brady OOC 2021.
If you can find takers for the top 4 you need to change career and become an agent

Well Stephens and Bardsley are here until this time next year so they won't be going.
Forme the key is getting some players in who can grow into the roles and be a decent squad option immediately apart from. A wide right player who we desperately need to provide some balance and take pressure off McNeil.
Others can be Tarkowski/Brownhill type signings who are able to step in for injuries and provide the press for places to keep the first eleven sharp and then come through to our new first eleven as ut develops

Bit we need to hold on to all our assets for 12 months so we buy space for those newer players to bed ubtk the squad

Re: Our summer window.
I doubt there’ll be much in the way of strengthening to the first eleven. The squad needs numerous additions though as Dyche pointed out in his not so subtle message to Alan Pace in the post match interview.
I don’t think the overhaul required is as big as many make out, but this clearly is our most important transfer window in some time.

Re: Our summer window.
It’s an impossible job to do everything that’s needed given where previous custodians have left it.
First job is 3 new contracts for Dyche, Mee and Tarkowski
Next Job is to replace the following glaring holes in the squad.
CB
RM
Final job is to replace Bardsley, Long, JBG, Brady, Stephens, Jay and Ash
Job obviously becomes more difficult with departures!!

One option for Stephens would be Nottingham Forest with Hughton in charge and a massive overhaul on the cards this summer for them.

That final job is quite sizeable, and hugely unrealistic in a single transfer window.OssyClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 7:12 pmIt’s an impossible job to do everything that’s needed given where previous custodians have left it.

Re: Our summer window.
Cork needs replacing he looks buggered. We can make do with the right sided midfield berth with JBG, and giving Brady a further 12 months, but a quality central midfielder to play along side Westwood is a must.
Our squad is too threadbare to hsve a clear out, we need to bring players in first and then trim down the squad

Re: Our summer window.
There is no way we can make do with JBG on the right IMO. He is far too injury prone and the same with Brady. How many have they both played this season? I don’t have the stats but I’m sure someone does. Can’t be that many either way.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 7:18 pmCork needs replacing he looks buggered. Re: Our summer window.
OUT:
Cork - not good enough since injury, slow, weak and negative with the ball. (could stay as 3rd/4th choice if Stephens leaves)
Rodriguez - nowhere near good enough anymore
Brady - cant stay fit and rubbish
Dunne - on evidence of today, never gonna be good enough.
Norris - LOL
Bardsley - I like Bardsley, he's been consistently injured and he's 35 years old, we need youth.
Stephens - genuinely looks like a pub league player, so past it and on an enormous wage.
IN
3rd choice keeper
3rd choice CB (Tark future replacement)
2 wide players (1 to start immediately)
1 striker (to start immediately)
right back (either young to replace Lowton eventually or one to immediately replace Lowton).
CM (first choice immediately).

I'd rather not.
Re: Our summer window.
Problem is even if clubs in the Championship show interest in the likes of Stephens and Barnes they may decide they'd rather sit out their contracts with us, rather than take a big pay cut.

Re: Our summer window.
Although personally I would be looking to get rid, we could probably carry Stephens and Barnes along for another 12 months. And that is only because there are other areas that seriously need work. We won’t repair this over 1 window, but we need to start the repair work this summer.
Re: Our summer window.
We face the same issue in every area though, Bardsley is signed up for another year. Ivan Toney just scored 30+ goals in the Championship and he reportedly earns the same salary as we pay Bardsley.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 8:01 pmAlthough personally I would be looking to get rid, we could probably carry Stephens and Barnes along for another 12 months. Which Championship club is stupid enough to make 35 year old Phil Bardsley their highest earner? this summer there's gonna be a mass amount of free transfers available with the Covid cost cutting.
Re: Our summer window.
The 1st signing of this Summer has to be Sean Dyche with an extension to his current contract. Sean is best placed to rebuild this team, he has a big job on his hands. The honeymoon period for Alan Pace and his team is now over.

Three central midfielders for me. If Westy, Corky and Brownhilly are our midfield next season we will struggle like we have this season: it would be another season of fighting to avoid relegation.

If I was you I’d prepare for disappointment, the normal excuses will be rolled out, value for money, it’s hard, yada yada.
I’d say 8/9 at least that started today will start the first game next season when in all reality we need to improve quality right through the team.
Not sure where Tarks thinks he’ll be going, especially if they’ve scouted him for last 5/6 matches.

Re: Our summer window.
It’s going to be a very interesting summer, not just for us but generally.
I think there will be less money about than many expect and a huge number of clubs looking to sell/reduce their wage bills. Just hope we have a good window for once.

I’d be looking to bolster the right wing and bring in one, perhaps two central midfielders who would push Cork and Westwood more into reserve. Brownhill so far for me has been a mistake.
I suspect right back will wait until next summer - hasn’t Bardsley been given an extra year? We then need two centre halves, three if Tarkowski leaves.
Oh and add to that a goalkeeper, based on the efforts of Norris and BPF.
We won’t do all of that in one window, but previous have left us in a position where recruitment numbers required are bigger than is the ideal in a single window.

Re: Our summer window.
That all depends on whether these high earners still want first team football or not at a level below, whether they'd be allowed to leave in any case, what the difference is in wages between what the two clubs would pay and whether we could utilise the loan system to assist these players.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 8:30 pmI was commenting on his post about it being difficult to move on high earners
Never as black and white as some would believe.
Re: Our summer window.
Might be wrong but thought Stephens had an option for us to terminate his contract this summer?
Can only echo the OP's sentiments. Big window needed.
I'd agree with all of Brady, Stephens, Norris and with a heavy heart Barnes and Bardsley to go.
Looking at the OOC players list I think we can get some relatively good additions on frees. Townsend and Shlupp would be two good additions out wide, Josh King would be a good addition up top and the right back from Napoli would also be a good signing. That would leave us with 1x CB (unless Tarks goes) and 1x CM required.
