it's not a step up, it's the chance to prove himself at another club that would potentially open up the door to a bigger job in the future, I'm not sure he'll ever get that opportunity working for Burnleysuperdimitri wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 5:08 amNot sure they are really that much of a step up though to be honest. I think Dyche would be more likely to look at clubs like Aston Villa or Leicester or West Ham as a step up.
Inevitably though it's only a matter of time one of these clubs sacks their manager comes after him.
If he goes to Crystal Palace then it will be a very bad sign for us and what we fear is true: that the new owners can't offer enough money for player wages and transfers to strengthen the team.
If I were Dyche I'd use this to my advantage and tell the new ownership that he wants to make x amount of signings with y amount of money. I've said it before but even if we don't have big transfer fees to spend we need to get recruitment right to get adequate numbers in. If that means making more Bardsley or Pieters like signings instead of younger players just so we can the squad depth so be it.

Excellent job done by Dyche over the years but others will just look at it as that he has only managed "little Burnley"
Palace would give him an opportunity to show he can adapt (if indeed he can) in a different environment
Will also show, if true, whether Dyche himself believes in his own ability to take on another club in a predicament similar to that of BFC
In their current situation, would think anyone taking over at Palace has a chance to make a much bigger name for themselves
Re: Crystal Palace contact Burnley over Dyche compensation fee
CP would be a stepping stone that’s for sure. There’ll be many factors to consider for SD before accepting that job. If it’s correct that they are interested in him then it’s now or never for the new owners at BFC to come up with enough to tempt him. I’m not sure that he’ll be looking for a big pay rise with us to be honest, I think it’ll be more down to the club supporting him in getting in his targets and continuing to improve the squad. I really hope the latter materialises.

It would be the worst possible start for Alan Pace and the new owners if the horse unseats the jockey approaching the first fence, even if he was seen to jump off himself and go out the side door.

If true it's a win/win for Dyche. Either our owners match that 'war chest' or he goes to Palace and does a good job. Most of their out of contract players will re-sign if they get Dyche and as long as he keeps them up first season they've got more potential than Burnley in the long term.
Serious risk of this happening, which would be a shame because I'm convinced we'll get relegated under any other manager.

Nightmare scenario at Palace with all those players out of contract, one any employed manager with a secured and lucrative contract will avoid like the plague.
Palace will be a strong contender for relegation next season whoever the manager is, but I can't see it being Dyche, he has far to much oil in his can

I just don’t see the attraction to Palace like some on here are suggesting, we have finished above them consistently and pay Dyche very well, some fans need to snap out of the little club Burnley rubbish we are a bigger more historic club than Palace.

I’ve heard this rumour too. It’s from a good source so fingers crossed. I don’t usually post that I have a source but this time I do. Maybe they’re waiting to see if Swansea are promoted. Fingers crossed they don’t.

Not sure how you can make that assertion with the season more than two months away from starting and the transfer window yet to open. Plus we have comfortably survived and more for 5 seasons at this level now.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 11:44 amNot think Burnley are a strong contender for relegation?

It’s fair to say that in any given season both Burnley and Palace are relegation candidates.
The big difference however is that Dyche wouldn’t get Palace relegated, he’d be sacked as soon as it looked like a possibility.

If hardly call it consistently we didn’t in 2014/15 or 2016/17 or 2018/19 or last season just gone, it’s somewhere around on a equal footing.

Purely basing it on the season just gone. From the existing 17 clubs in the league I think we are in the worst position, for me it is just if we are going to be better than the three coming up.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 12:49 pmNot sure how you can make that assertion with the season more than two months away from starting and the transfer window yet to open. However, if we get 20-30m invested into the squad this summer (plus Dyche stays) then we will be fine.

We’ve finished above them 7 times in the last 40 years. We’ve never had larger average attendances in that time (apart from last year when I think they’re developing their ground), and I think they got 55k+ one year when we played them last game.
They spend more on wages and transfer fees.
You’re right some fans do need to snap out of the little club syndrome but the facts are plain to see and Dyche will be well aware of them.

If Aston Villa sell Grealish for the sort of figures appearing in the media they could afford to buy our whole squad, not just McNeil

I think Villa would look for someone a lot better than McNeil to replace Grealish. If they are after McNeil it is more likely be in case they dont manage to sign Barkley

Barkley just did the same as always.
Started strongly, faded at the end, although he did have that injury in the middle.

Barkley and McNeil are about the same standard however McNeil has far more potential to improve over the coming years
Re: Crystal Palace contact Burnley over Dyche compensation fee
Enough so they dont need to name only 8 subs with 2 being goalkeepers along with a few kids not deemed good enough for league 1 never mind the premier league.
You should look to improve your team or at very least your matchday squad every window, even the best about want to improve year on year

Nixon seems to have an almost forensic knowledge of what goes on at certain clubs...Wigan and Bolton are examples, whereas with others, ourselves included, he seems to have virtually no insight whatsoever.

Re: Crystal Palace contact Burnley over Dyche compensation fee
Not sure I agree. Another club to prove he can do it but still with similar restraints to us. I'd see the likes of Leicester and Aston Villa as stepping stones. Not Crystal Palace. If he does well their it's not really showing he can manage top players and I don't think it will make a top club any more likely to come in for him.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 6:30 amit's not a step up, it's the chance to prove himself at another club that would potentially open up the door to a bigger job in the future, I'm not sure he'll ever get that opportunity working for Burnley
If their club were in a different situation then perhaps. Just like us they've been a victim to other clubs spending a lot more, including some newly promoted clubs. With a big rebuilding job Dyche will know that it's hard to develop team rapport.
I think he'll know it's risky and won't go unless he's very disappointed by his transfer and wage budget here. If he does go I think it's a very bad sign because it shows he's not confident we have enough money to spend.
Re: Crystal Palace contact Burnley over Dyche compensation fee
Not sure why his own wage should be increased by much, if anything
He is paid well and has a lucrative performance bonus built in, but a good agent will look after that side
As for any transfer and wage budget, that will only be known when actually spent (anyone can come up with provisional figures to appease a manager)
Same, of course, applies to any other club such as Palace
Issue is, any new suitors will want SD in immediately to start their own squad strengthening so any provisional budgets (from all clubs) are just pie in the sky
Difficult decision for SD if someone does come knocking at the door

If both positions at Burnley & Palace were empty and you asked any manager to pick a job 100 out of 100 are going for the palace job. Its just fact

Apart from the media hype about this, there is no indication whatsoever that Sean is thinking of jumping ship.
Don't forget, he's very big on loyalty, so I think if he was going, he would have said so by now, to give us time to find a replacement. He's no Owen Coyle.
He's not daft either isn't our Sean. He knows that if the new board think that he's considering leaving, he's far more likely to get what he wants during the summer. Maybe that would include a better contract, but better players will be his main aim.

I think the only reason SD might stay, is if he thinks a better job will become available. Palace would be a real gamble on his side and if it doesn't work out, will harm his stock.
He deserves the chance at somewhere like Everton so he might be tempted to stick around for another season to see if a bigger job becomes available. Even if he took Burnley down, it wouldn't be seen as a failure by him and would still be snapped up.
