YellowHeart NFTs
Well, the new board seems to be very interested in tech. They have now partnered with YellowHeart to use blockchain technology for ticketing and other products.
Personally, it's of no great interest to me, but they are certainly making big changes at Burnley. Time will tell if it will all work to the club's benefit.

I'm trying to stay positive but this feels like another of the daft ideas we'll be ruefully laughing about as we line up to play Shrewsbury away in 2025.

Well, whether it works or not, Burnley shouldn't lose over it. I can see NFTs working in far more things than digital art or music. It is, after all, an irrefutable 'Proof of ownership' due to the blockchain technology. It could, for instance be used on a mobile phone to prove ownership of a car, or even a house.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 4:05 pmI'm trying to stay positive but this feels like another of the daft ideas we'll be ruefully laughing about as we line up to play Shrewsbury away in 2025.
NFTs have been used for centuries, just not in digital form. e.g., take your shoes in for heeling and you get a ticket so that you can get them back later. That's an NFT.
I can see blockchain and NFTs having a great future, just not as currencies such as Bitcoin.

Interesting article on how concert goers can buy one or two price tickets - but how can NFTs be used in football stadiums with restrictions for separating home and away fans, including pre-booked seats for season ticket holders, different pricing structures for different groups, different stands, different games From friendlies to League and cup games?

I consider myself reasonably technically minded but I’m completely lost with this
What’s the difference between this and the “ticketless” system that was used last week?
Surely a ticket on your phone is good enough (if that is the route we are going down)

Re: YellowHeart NFTs
Tickets would be bought in much the same way, but using a digital wallet. The good thing about this tech is that it stops counterfeiting and it also stops ticket touts, providing the venue promoting an event, refuses to sell hundreds of tickets to one buyer.mikeS wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 4:29 pmInteresting article on how concert goers can buy one or two price tickets - but how can NFTs be used in football stadiums with restrictions for separating home and away fans, including pre-booked seats for season ticket holders, different pricing structures for different groups, different stands, different games From friendlies to League and cup games?
We've all seen concert tickets sell out in seconds, then seen tickets being sold at vastly inflated prices on ebay etc.. NFTs could stop that.
Re: YellowHeart NFTs
Remember the Colchester game and how there are 18,000 people claiming to be on the ground? Well, what this is saying is that if we all had fungible app tickets, we could all post them on here and see who the 1,696 really were.
As if anyone cared.
I hope this isn't another step towards saying "Bob Lorders are not welcome because you aren't modern and trendy".

Yes, that makes sense. But not for Burnley tickets. What these will be used for, I dare say, is to stop people buying a ticket and then passing it on to a friend at the last minute if they can't go. I'm not aware of a huge secondary market for BFC tickets.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 4:36 pmTickets would be bought in much the same way, but using a digital wallet. Re: YellowHeart NFTs
I don't think Burnley fans will be forced to buy tickets this way. That would be totally impossible to implement. It's more about YellowHeart being able to promote their other products and persuade more people to sign up.
I think the tech is fantastic, and if it works in a small way for Burnley, then the club should benefit in sponsorship at least.

Its been covered on here before, there are supporters groups getting tickets, or people with contacts in the ticket office, for away games and fans who don't meet the points criteria are getting into games ahead of their points position.
Also banned fans are getting into away games.

I was aware of art sales but wondered about the legal image rights, if you could sell these as NFTs it would be a pretty good extra income stream.

You could sell just about anything using NFTs. I think YellowHeart's link with BFC is more about promoting the company and it's blockchain technology, than anything else, although I'm sure that ticketing may go down that route for those interested enough.steve1264b wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 5:04 pmI was aware of art sales but wondered about the legal image rights, if you could sell these as NFTs it would be a pretty good extra income stream.
The company has only been going about a year, and their web page is far from easy to navigate. However, they are supposed to be working to improve it.

So an NFT is just a digital version of something physical?
I got my son the Master Replica Jango Fett Blasters a few years ago, inc original shipping box, certificates etc.
An NFT is just a digital collecters version then yes?

NFTs are an absolute grift. Grifts are a great way to make money though. It's therefore hard to say if this is good or bad.

Most on here missing the more common use of NFT's in Football - for that you need to look at Socios and I have been posting about that particular "grift" on the MMT thread for over 2 years now - it is an horrific concept to my mind and effectively creates tiering of fans by their value to the club, naturally as in many other areas it is "legacy fans" who will for the most part avoid such methods of locked in and paid for interaction with the club.
There is another completely separate issue with blockchain technology, particularly for clubs that have signed up to sustainability protocols and targets and that is the criminal waste of energy they are

The bottom link of the two links above seems to be about basketball fans buying chunks of video and then trading these among themselves like Top Trumps. Is that the concept here? How will this work in football (the association type) when TV rights are owned by the major corporations?

Considering the percentage of TM attendees that are pensioners, these are the ones generally alienated by this type of technology.
They're gonna struggle to replace them with a younger generation.
But then again, they won't last forever.

Re: YellowHeart NFTs
I might be wrong, but my experiences of NFTs is that they are very much like gambling under the guise of investment.
Appreciate this is just in relation to tickets at the moment. I assume they will go down the route of selling NFTs using yellow heart.
Re: YellowHeart NFTs
My knowledge of them is also limited but from what I understand the technology behind it just proves that something is digitally unique and it can’t be copied/faked. The technology behind it has been applied to art, music, sports cards, video, etc. These NFT items (e.g a piece of digital art) are owned by someone and they can sell them on a secondary market at whatever value someone is willing to pay for them. Some items can appreciate in value and some can depreciate, as with any ‘asset’. There’s no link to gambling.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 9:43 pmI might be wrong, but my experiences of NFTs is that they are very much like gambling under the guise of investment.

Re: YellowHeart NFTs
West Ham may be the most appropriate place for NFTs because it definitely seems like a “bubble”.
I can see the benefit in collectibles, particularly if linked to something tangible like paying to attend a game, e.g. a digital version of keeping old ticket stubs as a collection. Not sure if that qualifies as a NFT or not, that is where it starts to throw me.
What money I have will stay firmly in my pocket, but hopefully the impressionable and / or young won't be taken advantage of. I suspect though that the real target for this is overseas fans, but at half a century old I’m at least 20 years too old to be confident in what I’m writing.

No suggestion at the moment though that the club are looking to implement something similar. From reading the Twitter thread linked the Socios tokens are essentially a cryptocurrency that is designed to be traded, although it’s clearly been sold to people who don’t understand the risks involved (or they weren’t correctly informed of them).
