Just confirmed that Celtic are now looking at other targets.
Various factors, disagreement over budget and backroom staff and also personal reasons.

That was my first thought. I do know he wanted to take Weatherstone (who was considered a joke at Burnley), Perches and one other with him.

Celtic were never going to have the money to spend that many would think, even though they are in the Champions League qualifying rounds and are expected to sell at least one of their better players. This is a club highly reliant on it's gates and European TV revenues, my guess is that they would prefer the certainty of Europa League group stage qualification than the risks of Champions League qualifying rounds

I’m glad he’s turned it down, he needs to be in the championship or premiership in order to progress. I thought the West Brom job would be ideal for him.

Howe to Palace is a marriage made in Dorset.
London is in "the South" so it won't be far for him to travel and there'll be lots and lots of amenitites for him, his friends, his family and his backroom staff.
He could instigate a new brand of football at Selhurst Park. Really get them passing it around a lot at the back.
It'll be a new era.

Palace - where it all ended for him with Burnley in a defensive shambles

Indeed.
John Murray, 5live footie commentator talking to Tony Livesey a few minutes ago saying there was "a sticking point over the appointment of his backroom staff"
I'd say EH to Palace would be quite likely.

Bad news for us if Howe goes to Palace as they are a club at a crossroads. Make one wrong move and it could spell disaster but with any of Dyche, Howe and Lampard in charge they'd comfortably stay up and likely start troubling the top 10 in the next few years

Amazing that it's taken all this time to work that one out. Right from the start he wanted to take Perches, Weatherstone and one other with him. I thought the sticking point there was should Bournemouth go up the three of them were due pay rises which would have made it very difficult.

Doesn't surprise me in the least this news, the local media up here have been speculating that EH was getting cold feet over the Celtic job weeks ago.
And if you think Palace have a big rebuilding job that's minimal compared to the Celtic situation, and their star striker (Edouard) is almost certain to leave this summer.
Plus everyone knows the Celtic faithful are unforgiving at the best of times, just look at how they treated Neil Lennon a club legend who's won over 20 major trophies, if that's how they behave towards one of their hero's, than Eddie wouldn't last 2 minutes as soon as he suffered a defeat or two.
I see Roy Keane is being heavily linked with the Celtic gig, if he should be confirmed it'll be entertaining anyway.

It still amazes me to this day, that Burnley fans think he left us 'because he/his wife didn't like it up north.'
He had a hell of a lot of things going on in his personal life towards the end, including the death of this mother.
Show the man some respect for God's sake, and get over it.

He had a fortune to spend at Bournemouth though. The like of Kenweyne Jones on £35k a week was blowing everyone else out the water for wages at the time.
Howe was awful for us. Probably our worst manager in the last 20 odd years.

How did well at Bournemouth because it was still his team and club.
Managers like Allerdyce and Dyche know what to do to stay in a league, Howe doesn't.
Give him a team that plays to his style and he might improve them. Give him a team that doesn't and he won't be given the chance to change them.
I hope CP take him as I think they will go down with him in charge as he will try to change their style.

Completely lost control of the dressing room when the players became love sick for Coyle, Howe shifted the trouble makers out and laid the foundations down for Dyche to move the club forward.

That’s your opinion, we were still in contention for the play offs just 2 points off before he got punted. Howe come in his mates damaged our youth set up, and took us from promotion chasing side to bottom half makeweights. Added to that the
Football was dire and clueless.
Our worst manager in some time.

Yep getting Kenwyn Jones on loan for 6 weeks to see them over the line in winning the Championship is really blowing the rest of the division out the water
Pretty sure Bournemouth spend on transfer fees and wages that year was very similar to what Dyche spent the year after to win the Championship with us

What Bournemouth spent that season broke the FFP rules. They spent that much on Jones and others too. Jones never started a game for them.

It boiled my waste water when Bournemouth were promoted under this banner of being a small town club, misty-eyed dream, with Howe at the helm, like footballs answer to The Waltons. Yet in reality they were signing players like Distin in £75k / week and had a Russian Oligarch bank rolling them.
I’ve nothing against Howe personally. He was a young man, he had personal tragedies and left us with some great players. I will never understand the vitriol towards him.
Their fans though? Bizarre. My lad was mascot when we beat them 3-1 at theirs a couple of seasons ago. You’d think we’d just beaten Real Madrid by playing like Don Revie’s Leeds! Dwight had Clyne inside his wallet in the back pocket of his jeans, that he was wearing under his waterproof trousers - Clyne was subbed off at half time. They couldn’t cope with us. We were used to an arena like that and were superb that day.
Sorry. I got rather lost then - what was the question? Oh yeah. Howe to Celtic. Nah. Why isn’t Wilder being linked with the Palace job though?!?!

Thats missing the point of judging Howe against other clubs managers. FFP is spend vs income. If manager A has £20m to spend and manager B has £20m to spend then what % of their revue that works out at makes no difference to the achievement of the manager to build his team with £20m
Bournemouth did not blow the other teams out of the water and spent around the same as us.
Without the chairman allowing Bournemouth to break FFP then it would have just meant Eddie Howe and Bournemouth was not on an equal footing to what other teams had to spend and what Dyche had to spend the year later.
If Dyche spends 80% of Burnley revenue next season and Klopp spends 80% Liverpool revenue should they be judged equally on their league position, The answer is obviously no because 80% of Liverpools revenue is a lot more money than 80% of our revenue and actual how much you have to spend as a manager is the key thing.
Amazes me how people cant separate FFP in terms of how a club operates and actual budget a manager has which is the measure of their performance

Distin was signed when they were in the Premier League. They signed him on a 1 season deal so if they paid him £75k per week he cost them less than £4m and less than we spent on Lukas Jutkiewicz

I know they did. But the point is they were prepared / able to pay £4m for a 12 month gig. If LJ cost us that, it most certainly wasn’t in the same vein and given his performance at Championship level before and since, spending £4m on LJ rather than Distin is a disingenuous argument.

But paying a player £75k a week when you've got all the Premier League money is not that bigger deal. To put into perspective Bournemouths wage bill was £60m that year and Burnley's wage bill the following year was £61m

Unfortunately, ‘paying a player £75k a week when you’ve got all the premier league money’ just isn’t sustainable for a club of our or Bournemouth’s size, without the aforementioned Russian Oligarch. It doesn’t stick. It can’t.
