Can you forgive her
Another night with open eyes
Too late to sleep, too soon to rise
You're short of breath, is it a heart attack?
Hot and feverish you face the fact

Hmm, I see nothing to compare them with Depeche Mode if I'm honest apart from the use of synths. They've always struck me as quite cheesy and have more in common with The Human League for me.

Mode have always been quite sleazy and dark lyrically. That said, since Alan Wilder left they have lost their 'edge'.

Don't compare them to Depeche Mode - both brilliant but in different ways. PSB cheesy? Probably. Cheesy and camp.

Seen both PSB & DM live more than once. Totally different but both, in my view, brilliant.

Don’t even go there with Erasure (a new thread would be required). They’re my all-time favourite group. I’ve even sung ‘A Little Respect’ at a good friend’s wedding.

Not seen PSB live, but seen Mode a couple of times. I'm not saying they're not a good act, they are, I have a number of their earlier albums, and they are spun now and again, especially Introspective and Disco. The same for Erasure, I have Wild! and The Innocents, but I found their earlier material a bit 'twee' for my liking, bar the odd single.

There's nothing wrong with being a bit 'cheesy', I absolutely love early Human League pre-Dare!, and they had more cheese than the deli counter at Morrisons.

New Order always number one for me in that genre. But the Pet Shop Boys really don't get the credit they deserve as songwriters. Very clever.
